Smithills Open Farm in Bolton contacted us in 2017 as we're members of the National Farm Attractions Network (NFAN) and we've worked with other members in the past.
Their out-of-date and soon to be end-of-life EPOS system was causing issues throughout their business, but primarily at the admissions desk incurring longer queues and inefficient processing of transactions. Having grown from a 5k visitor site to a 160k visitor site in a short time, the company needed a system that would work with them to provide the business info that they required in order to make more informed business decisions, speed up transactions at the point of sale and take online bookings for tickets.
We worked closely with Smithills to help build a robust solution to support their growth as they continue to expand. Covering all aspects of customer and supplier transactions, our KCPOS solution is installed in their admissions desks, their shops and their cafes. It's also linked to the UK's leading online ticketing platform, Digitickets and synchronises all this data with their back-office business management and accounts software.

Amy is obsessed with cows so for her special Mummy & Amy Day we took a trip to Smithills Open Farm in Bolton with the sole intention of watching the cows be milked. We stood and watched the farmer milking the cows for forty minutes! We also took a donkey ride, held some baby animals and fed the calves.

Open Farm Day
On Sunday 17th June 2012 Farm Day at Holkham gave visitors a chance to discover modern and Victorian farming on a great estate.
The north lawn of Holkham Park was transformed with displays of combines, tractors, large sprayers, pens of cattle and calves and displays of sheep shearing. Trailer rides took keen visitors around the park to show them more of the farming operation on the estate. Whilst in the Bygones Museum visitors had a chance to step back in time to Victorian times and learn from history with a host of characters with the poacher, baker, kitchen maid and cooks, blacksmith, equine expert all dressed in period costume bringing the past to life.
