On this episode of Horns High Mountain Biking I ride Neale's Trail, located at Smithville Lake, near Smithville, Missouri.
Neale's Trail makes up about 2 of the 14 miles of singletrack currently offered up at Smithville Lake. It's a chunky, rocky little beast of a trail that retains flow while giving you great views of the lake.
The climbs aren't steep, but the rocks will challenge your traction at times.

Mushroom hunters told they can't pick near Smithville Lake
There is confusion in Smithville over mushroom hunting. People are being told they cannot pick mushrooms near Smithville Lake. A spokesperson with Clay County said there is a ban in place, preventing anyone from removing any natural material from areas managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, such as around the lake. Some people said they have been threatened with arrest, but a county official said there have been no arrests. “It's just ridiculous to do something like this. You are kicking dirt in the face of motherhood, dirt on apple pie and stomping on the flag when you start messing with mushroom hunters. I haven't hunted in years, but I want the opportunity if I want to go out and hunt again,” resident Doug Lowe said. The county said it is looking at amending the ordinance.

New training facility presents unique opportunities for Smithville firefighters
Firefighters in Smithville, MO, have worked hard in the last few months to design and build a small two-bedroom house as a training area inside their downtown fire station. The new training facility will hopefully allow firefighters to better protect local families.
