Bangkok Snake Farm Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute - Places to visit in Bangkok
Follow Us as we share with you our recent visit to a Snake Farm in the heart of Bangkok!
Who would have guessed that there would be such a hidden treasure found within the confines of the Red Cross Hospital grounds. We happen to chance upon it while searching for places to visit during our recent trip.
It was really very enlightening to know the rationale behind setting up the Snake Farm and Museum. Thailand is home to numerous species of snakes and her population is threatened with snake bite injuries on a day to day basis. Some of these could be fatal. The setting up of this establishment serves to educate the Thai population and tourists on how to differentiate a venomous snake from a non-venomous one. Also, its presence serves to assure locals that specialised help is present if needed. They have a dedicated team looking at dealing with snake venom and the after effects of snake bites.
We really enjoyed our visit and hope that this video will give you more inspirations just so that you would not run out of places to visit in Bangkok! ☺️

King Cobra - Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute - Bangkok ????????Thailand Living
Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute is also known as the Red Cross snake farm by some. This is a place dedicated to raising and researching venomous snakes of Thailand. They milk the king cobras, kraits, coral snakes and other venomous species to create the anti-venin that must be administered after a bite by one of the venomous snakes in Thailand.
I enjoyed my visit to the snake farm, but I was expecting much more.
This cobra in the video is a smart one. It knows how it will be grabbed and thwarts it twice. I think the presenter said that the guys handling the snakes have all been bitten by venomous snakes at least twice. I think once would do it for me.
I liked this video because this king cobra has mouth open and is ready to envenomate. It isn't playing around. Watch when it looks like he will strike upwards. King cobras just don't do that. I've never seen one look up to strike.
