Taiwan Snow Mountain

Finally the climb is here! 8 of us travelling to our first ever Taiwan Snow Mountain climb. 3 couples including 2 guys.

We took a midnight scoot flight 0055hrs from Singapore to Taoyuan International Airport TR898, usually this flight would reach Tao Yuan international Airport at around 6am.

My friend had arranged for airport transfer to our hotel at Taipei Ximending, around 40 min without traffic. We were supposed to check in after 2pm, so we left our bags at Hotel Dairy of Ximen when we reached at around 7am.

The staff were friendly and we got our baggage tag. We crossed the road and had breakfast at a roadside stall and went to Taipei Train Station to have a simple walk around?

After walking around Taipei Train Station and checking out the new terminal (TaoYuan to Taipei) we made our way to Din Tai Fung 鼎泰豐 at Xinyi Road 信義路.

Everytime I'm in Taipei, I would come here. However I was shocked by the queue (3hours). In the end we ate at another Xiao Long Bao store.

We made our way to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall 中正紀念堂. It was raining the whole morning. It was around 12 degrees, back home we are at 30 degrees (whole year). So it was rather cold.

After the short tour we went back to the hotel and had a afternoon nap.

Then it was dinner time. I think we had our dinner at Tian Wai Tian Ximending. After dinner, sang along to the tune of a street performer. We then went to seven eleven to stock up for the climb next day. Packed our bag and ready to start the climb.

Travel around 2 hours to reach Wuling Farm, 平等里武陵路 Heping District, Taichung City, Taiwan. We were so lucky that it was cherry blossom season. The cherry blossom was so scenic. Maybe it will be in the next video. Stay tuned. I was sleeping on the way up, therefore I did not capture any footage. I did captured some footage on our way down.

We started the climb at around 2pm. We reached Qika Cabin (2400m) before sunset and spent our night on the mountain. Our guide, Pirate, cooked dinner for us. It was a delicious dinner. It was around 2 degrees that night and we had the entire cabin to the 8 of us. If you guys did not climb any mountain before, the cabin does not have electricity. Everything has to be carried up, including gas and food.

Next day, we woke up before sunrise and made our way up to Xueshan Dong Feng (3201m), we made our descend from Dong feng to 369 cabin where we had the night. It was 0 degrees that night at 369 cabin. I was such a noob. It was my first time sleeping in 0 degree, haha, we had rented a wool sleeping bag and this was the 2nd night sleeping in it. I wore everything that I had and went to bed, guess what, I ended taking off layers and layers of clothing in the night as I was sweating. I only knew the next monrning that it was 0 degrees. LOL.

So far the trip was quite an easy trip. I was not as tough as expected. However the real toughness comes after Black forest. We had to wear claws on our hiking shoes to scale to the peak... This was really tough.

Da’an Forest Park

Situated in the urban center, Da'an Forest Park officially opened in 1994, bordering Jianguo South Rd. in the east, Xinsheng South Road in the west, Heping East Road in the south, and Xinyi Road in the north. Covered in grasslands, trees, flowers and foliage plants, there is a Buddha Statue and a bamboo forest in the south, an open - air theatre for art performances in the center, and an accessible recreational area surrounding it attracts many park visitors. Known as the lungs of Taipei City, the park is a green world unto itself. Besides shaded trails for pedestrians and joggers, the park is equipped with a wide range of recreational facilities, including a public square, public bicycles, open-air music stage, children playground, kiosks etc, providing Taipei's citizens with a valuable green space and the best venue for exercise and recreation.

Forest is the homeland of water sources. In addition to providing various recreational functions to the public, the park is a place where priceless water resources are nourished. Therefore, the Water Resources Agency, Ministry of Economic Affairs, hopes to educate citizens, by means of formative influences, to cherish the limited water resources; the means include water saving apparatus installed inside the park, the public toilet demo system, and the water purification plant experiment; and to make the park the best showcase of water preservation.

The Taipei Metro Daan Park station is a metro station on the Red Line located beneath Xinyi Rd, Sec. 3 between Xinsheng South Rd. and Jianguo South Rd. in Daan District, Taipei, Taiwan. It is located at the northern end of the Daan Forest Park for which it is named after. The station was opened on 24 November 2013

Buses in taipei are easy to use. All bus stops are clearly marked with the bus numbers and routes. All stops have digital signs telling you how many minutes away buses are. Also, a lot of the buses are in the middle of the road because a lot of streets are one way street for regular traffic but buses can go in the opposite or both directions.

Wuling Farm - 武陵農場, Taichung, Taiwan, 9/1-3/2015

The farm, 武陵農場, is located in the valley area of Heping Township, Taichung County. It is the habitat of national treasure “Masu Salmon”, an endangered fish, and one of the main farming areas in Taiwan. Wuling Farm is famous for fruit produce, such as pears, plums, apples, and peaches; under suitable natural environment, vegetables and high mountain tea are also important crops. The flower views are attractive for visitors, especially in autumn. The view of maple leaves and cool climate make Wuling Farm a wonderful place to spend your vacation. The snow view in winter is another feature of Wuling Farm, and the trails under different terrain lead you to spectacular scenery. Along your journey, you may also head to Shei-Pa National Park which is also located in Heping Township. Wuling Forest Park is an ideal destination for hikers and tourists, offering views of mountains, valleys and waterfalls. The Park has campground, trails and ecology garden. Wuling suspension bridge is right at the entrance to the home of Masu Salmon.

雪山，屬於雪山山脈，為全台灣第二高峰，標高 3,886 公尺，僅次於玉山山脈的玉山主峰（3,952 公尺）。雪山在日治時代被稱做次高山，是兩座超越富士山高度的台灣山脈之一。在台灣百岳之中，雪山與玉山、秀姑巒山、南湖大山、北大武山合稱「五岳」，為台灣最具代表性的五座高山之一。
Xueshan or Hsuehshan (Chinese: 雪山; pinyin: Xuě Shān; literally: 'Snow Mountain) a mountain in Heping District, Taichung, Taiwan. It is the second highest mountain in Taiwan and in East Asia, at 3,886 m (12,749 ft) above sea level. It is located in the Shei-Pa National Park and it is visible in good weather from hills near Taiwan's capital Taipei.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was known to Westerners as Mt. Sylvia.[2] In 1923 (see Taiwan under Japanese rule), the mountain gained the name Tsugitakayama (次高山), literally the Second Highest Mountain, because in the Japanese Empire at that time, only Yushan (also in Taiwan) was higher. They are both ahead of Mount Fuji in terms of height. It was designated part of the Tsugitaka-Taroko National Park [ja] by the Governor-General of Taiwan on 12 December 1937.

Nanhu Mountain 南湖大山 Taiwan 100 Peaks Challenge 挑戰百岳

NANHU MOUNTAIN (Chinese: 南湖大山) is a mountain in Taroko National Park, Heping District, Taichung, Taiwan with an elevation of 3,742 m (12,277 ft). It is the 5th highest mountain in Taiwan.

It is the highest peak in the Taroko National Park, ranked 8th out of 100 as the most spectacular peaks in Taiwan, sits at the northern edge of the Central Mountain Range (中央山脉).On the map stands in the area where 3 county of Yilan, Hualien and Taichung meet.

WHY NANHU MOUNTAIN
1. Voted as one of Taiwan's mountains with the most amazing views
2. The main peak standing at 3742m, is one of the King of mountains alongside with Yushan, Xue Shan, Xiuguluan Mountain, BeiDaWu Mountain - known as 五岳
3. Can be completed by beginners with no mountaineering experience, though they must be of good physique and must meet training requirements stipulated by the organisers
4. Multi days hikes with overnight stay at mountain cabins

TRAIL GRADING: 3/5
Grade 3: Advanced trekking. Trails are usually in good condition, but there could be areas in disrepair. There will be significant elevation gains and grading may be quite steep in some areas. Trails may require more than 1 day to complete. Scrambling may be required along parts of the trail. Requires an excellent hiking condition.

TAIWAN Hiking- Dakeng Trail 10 || 大坑十號登山步道

Come explore the mountains of Taiwan on the Dakeng Trail Number 10 hike outside of Taichung City. Hiking is a huge part of Taiwanese culture. It's not only hiking, it's a cultural experience. There are local vendors, fruit markets, restaurants and friendly people along the way!

This trail is about a 10 minute drive from our apartment in Taichung. Come see what our local community has to offer!
