Horseback riding in Wales | Bucket Life
Living in London can be tiring !
Sotiris and I wanted some time away, to forget about his doctorate and my work. So we went to Wales for fours days. We stayed in Gwynedd (the north of Wales) and enjoyed visiting some castles, hiking, eating very tasty foods and just our time together. It also was our way to celebrate Valentine's day and our one year anniversary. I treated us with half a day of horseback riding as a gift for his birthday and it was magical.
Now we're back, and we're fresh and ready for some more work !
Now and then I'm gonna make some travel videos, but I will always come back to writing ! See you all next week !

Narrow gauge railways of Wales No 1 of 5 Snowdon
This is 1 of a series of 5 short videos on various travels on the narrow gauge railways of Wales.
What we do
Set in a wonderful location affording glorious views at the head of the lovely Vale of Ffestiniog in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, these delightful, spacious and very comfortable cottages provide an ideal holiday base. Formally stables and now beautifully converted, they stand in the grounds of the owners' country inn and hotel -- perfect for relaxing over a meal and a drink after a day enjoying the numerous family attractions and outdoor pursuits the area has to offer. Within half a mile is the station at Tan Y Bwlch, where visitors can take a trip on the famous narrow gauge railway as it winds its way down from the slate town of Blaenau Ffestiniog through spectacular scenery to its journey's end at the picturesque harbour in Porthmadog (6 miles). The Italianate village of Portmeirion, location of the cult TV series The Prisoner, is 4 miles distant and a choice of superb sandy beaches and championship golf courses lie within 10 miles. Shop 3 miles.
Detached 5 star cottage just outside Porthgain | Hafan Penrhyn
This detached cottage with sea views is located on a quiet country lane in Llanrhian and is only a short drive (or walk) from the sea and the fishing village of Porthgain with its harbour, great local pub 'The Sloop' and seafood restaurant 'The Shed'.
There are many great beaches and coves, all nearby, including Abereiddy and Trefin. We can also recommend some great secluded beaches on arrival, but they are a secret, so please don't tell anyone else :). The ever popular Whitesands Beach is just 6 miles away and is great for surfing, bathing and family fun.
The St David's Peninsula is beautiful and contains St David's itself, Britains' smallest city. The Cathedral is well worth a visit and is only 6 miles away from the cottage. St David's has plenty of places to eat and drink, small local shops and a supermarket. Ramsey Island is a dramatic off-shore island teaming with bird and sea life. It is accessible by a regular boat service from St Justinian’s, which crosses the spectacular Ramsey Sound, with its infamous and treacherous reef, known as The Bitches. Many boat trips can be booked, including jet boat rides, fishing trips, bird watching, seal watching and even whale and dolphin watching trips. The coastline includes the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path section of the All Wales Coastal Path so it is great for walking. A shuttle bus runs near the property and can drop you off or pick you up form different points along the path. Coasteering is very popular in the area (our very own Meirion tried coasteering here) especially at the Blue Lagoon in Abereiddy and other popular activities include kayaking and surfing, with lessons and kit hire all available locally.
Fishguard is about 8 miles away. This town has a ferry port (ideal for a day trip to Ireland) and it also has a very interesting history: the last invasion of Britain took place here in 1797 and local hero, Jemima Nicholas, is alleged to have beaten back the French invaders wielding only a pitch fork. A special tapestry tells the story of this historical episode and can be seen in the Town Hall. Strumble Head is a rocky headland near Fishgaurd and with its towering cliffs and rocky landscape, it is also a great spot to watch the ferry coming into the harbour and to try and spot any dolphins in the bay.
For families, Folly Farm , Oakwood Theme Park and Hanger 5 Trampoline Park , Manor House Wildlife Park and Heatherton World of Activities are great all-weather attractions.

Marching for Welsh Independence
It may be a small movement right now, but the call for Welsh independence is growing. Earlier this month thousands took to the streets of Cardiff demanding an end to Westminster rule. While parts of the country have always supported self-governance, the movement has never been mainstream. But could that be about to change? A recent ITV poll showed that 12 percent would favour an independent Wales. While that's not enough to call a referendum just yet, it's significantly higher than just a few years ago. And the country's pro-independence party, Plaid Cymru, says the tide is turning. Is that because of Brexit? And could Wales really be better-off on its own?

WOW Sailing Adventure on Menai Straits Anglesey to Beaumaris, North Wales Sept 2019
You would not be blamed to believe that it is some caribbean sea, but it's only Anglesey. In fact we are arriving at Beaumaris, North Wales on a wonderful September 2019 sunny day aboard a lugger, 1830's replica built in Falmouth, sailed home Charles around Cornwall.
Nelson said that the Menai Straits has treacherous waters.
We left Bangor, North Wales, harbor by engine but we stop it as soon as we were out in the straits.
It was not any problem with the engines but I wanted to learn to sail. The captain Charles started teach us the basics as the name of everything left and right side, name of the sails.
He was showing us how to judge / calculate the wind direction and strength, release the jib and the main sail. How to avoid the boom, etc. After this, to avoid overloading with information we relaxed.
Good wind and perfect sun.
Due to a few kwells I could enjoy the trip without the technical yawn.
