We arrived at our Minehead hotel on the Friday afternoon for our weekend hiking. On Saturday, the morning hiking distance was about 6 miles to the lovely village of Dunster. The afternoon hiking was another 5 miles back to Minehead. On Sunday we drove to Wheddon Cross in a lovely area of Exmoor and saw the fantastic Snowdrop Valley. The hiking distance down the valley and back was about 6 miles!

WATCHET STATION AND THE SNOWDROP SPECIAL, WSR
On the West Somerset Railway. This is the first year the railway is running these special excursions to see the snowdrops in Exmoors Snowdrop Valley. It is proving to be a very popular idea with all three trains sold out..Passengers change to a coach or coaches at Dunster station. From there they travel up to Wheddon Cross where a mini bus takes passengers down the resticted entry one direction only narrow lane to see the valley. There are local cafes and a pub where the bus runs from. If you would like to see a video of snowdrop valley itself see SNOWDROP VALLEY EXMOOR

STEAM LOCOMOTIVES AND SNOWDROPS
I first thought I would wait and take video of a train arriving at Dunster Station and its passengers boarding a coach to take them to Wheddon Cross, where they would catch the minibus to see the snowdrops.Because the single track road to the valley is narrow and there is only space for a couple of cars to park near the entrance to the valley, private cars are not permitted to go down there in February during the time the special minibus is in service. There is parking where the minibus starts from. As it happens we went to see the snowdrops ourselves a few days ago by car when it was quiet with nobody else around so herewith are photos taken at the time combined with some older photos of resident and visiting locos on the West Somerset Railway There are signs at the valley advising that snowdrops are not to be picked. If many railway passengers go there, perhaps they will also need a Beware of Trains Sign! If you would care to see video taken of the snowdrops in 2009, see SNOWDROP VALLEY, EXMOOR
FIRST STEAM TRAIN FROM BISHOPS LYDEARD WSR 10 FEBRUARY 2018
This first train of the season is designated as the train to take passengers to Snowdrop Valley, care of a special coach waiting at the other end of the line. That takes passengers to Wheddon Cross where a mini bus awaits to continue the journey down a narrow lane to this remote valley where currently the snowdrops are in full display. I have now decided to make part 2 a separate video titled FIRST STEAM TRAINS AT WILLITON WSR 10 FEBRUARY 2018.
