Rad Bike Adventure Episode 46 ????: Victoria to NSW- Inland For a Bit
As we cruise along the end of the East Gippsland Rail Trail to it's terminus in Orbost we find a new friend to cycle with and some unique decorations for our bicis.
We cycled inland for a few days to avoid stretches of highway on the coast and absolutely LOVED the riding we found through the Gap Scenic Reserve and Snowy River / Errinundra National Parks. Gorgeous gum tree forests all around!

++Wait, what's RaD?: Ryan and Darin (that's us! Yes, we both have boy names...Is that weird?). Get it? ...r And d=RaD.
++The Adventure: riding our bikes around a bunch of different places in this world for a year. Seeing new sights, trying new foods, meeting lots of new people, visiting old friends and generally having a swell ol' time challenging ourselves to EXPLORE MORE(!) from the saddle of a bicycle. Rad On!

Cycling McKillops Rd to Snowy River
Shot from glasses cam, this footage was shot by Snowy River Cycling tour guide Bec, on the day 3 of the 'Snowgums to Seaweed' tour in the rugged mountain country in Eastern Victoria Australia. The total descent drops 800 metres over 11 kilometres: leaving behind rolling pastureland atop the plateaux, the road hugs the mountainside as it winds down the valley wall to the Snowy River. McKillops Bridge is one of very few points of civilisation along a 100km + length of Australias most famous river.

Australia's Most Dangerous Road
The drive along McKillops Road in Victoria is one of Australia's most dangerous public roads.
Single lane, unsealed road with a steep drop to one side and a rock face to the other side for some sections with a few passing spots.

The Old Beechy Trail
This rail trail from Colac to Beech Forest and return was ridden before in November of 2012 and it was so exhausting that I nearly didn't make it back. But this time it was started from the Barongarook tennis courts, shortening the ride by 20 km down to 71 km avoiding the streets of Colac and the country roads. Even so, it's an extremely gruelling ride through the long steep hills which are relentless and tiring, but very exhilarating on the downhill runs.
The Gellibrand Cafe at the halfway point is run by a nice chatty woman called Maria. She's ridden the trail many times, knows the trail conditions and who's been to and fro that day. It's essential to stop there and say, Hello, and to have a morning tea and also afternoon tea on the way back.
I won't do the full ride again, it's just too demanding, but would do the downhill runs either from Barongarook to Gellibrand or Beech Forest to Gellibrand. Gellibrand is the low point of the ride and rests in a nice valley. But that needs someone waiting for me at Gellibrand with a car.
I met no other rider the entire trip. It's a lonely ride with no mobile phone reception which makes it all the more challenging. The ride took 9 hours. The hills, the hills...
