Forested Sochi National Park is a 1,937-sq.-km protected area in the nearby Caucasus Mountains. Some 70 km inland, Krasnaya Polyana is a prominent ski resort.

'Wall of Champions' goes up in Sochi Olympic Park

A ceremony to unveil the Wall of Champions of the Sochi 2014 Olympics and Paralympics was held in Sochi on Saturday. It marks the first anniversary of the start of the Sochi Winter Olympics. A monument in the shape of two pyramids symbolizing mountains covered in snow was erected on Medals Plaza Square in honor of the Games' winners. The monument carries 887 plates with the gold, silver and bronze champions' names, and 88 with the names of the countries that took part.
