A massive storm has descended on the Russian resort city of Sochi on the Black Sea coast, bringing with it waves so high they've turned Sochi's districts at the embankment into a huge swimming pool.

Severe Flooding Turns Streets to Rivers in Russian City
Russia's southern cities of Sochi and Tuapse were hit by a cyclone that caused flash floods on Wednesday (October 24) and Thursday (October 25).
The Russian Ministry of Emergency reported that two people were killed and one person is missing. About 500 people were evacuated and more than 2,000 houses were flooded, according to local emergency services.
Russia’s weather service says the situation should improve, with rains expected to end Friday (October 26).

The weather in Sochi has been anything but winter-like. In the mountains it's cooler, but not cold. While many athletes have expressed concerns about the snow, an Olympic official reminds everyone it's not the first time the Winter Olympics have been a little on the warm side. Irkutsk is a city on the Angara River in eastern Siberia, Russia. The river embankment is lined with hurches, including the Epiphany Cathedral (Sobor Bogoyavleniya), with gilded onion domes, and the Spasskaya Church, with its soaring bell tower.
The restored neoclassical Moskovskie Vorota arch is also by the water. Near Kirov Square, the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum has ancient icons and more recent Russian artworks.

Rostov-on-Don - the southern capital of Russia
Rostov-on-Don was built by decree of Empress Elizabeth (the daughter of Peter the Great), as an important strategic settlement in southern Russia. Now Rostov-on-Don is the largest city in the south of Russia, where more than 2 million people live.
Rostov-on-Don is a large administrative, cultural, scientific, educational, industrial center and the most important transportation hub in southern Russia.
The city has preserved many beautiful buildings. We walked along the central streets of the city, the embankment of the Don River and talked to the locals.

Всесезонный и горный курорт Горки Город расположен в предгорье Главного Кавказского хребта, на территории знаменитой Красной Поляны Большого Сочи. Высокий уровень сервиса, архитектурная утонченность и живописные пейзажи природного заповедника каждый год привлекают на курорт сотни тысяч туристов со всего мира.
Начало строительства: 2010 г. (всесезонный и горный курорт Горки Город).
Цель строительства: создание медиа-центра XXII Олимпийских зимних игр и XI Паралимпийских зимних игр 2014 года; создание центра спортивной и культурной жизни горного кластера Олимпийских игр.
Общая площадь курорта: 863,7 га на отметках от +540м до +2200м над уровнем моря.
Сегодня Горки Город – это не просто горнолыжный курорт. Это целый город с полноценной инфраструктурой, в котором в течение года отдыхают сотни тысяч туристов со всей России и из-за рубежа
В целом, инфраструктура Горки Город расположилась на четырех уровнях: на высотах +540м – Нижний город, +960м – Верхний город, +1500м и +2200м – канатные дороги, горнолыжные трассы, экскурсионные объекты показа и маршруты. Самая высокая точка спуска – пик Черная пирамида хребта Аибга, +2340м над уровнем моря.
Нижний и Верхний уровни города соединены автомобильной и канатной дорогами.
На высоте +540м над уровнем моря расположены пятизвездочный отель Сочи Марриотт Красная Поляна, четырехзвездочная гостиница Горки Плаза и Апартаменты Горки Город 540 с общим номерным фондом 2000 номеров.
Здесь же находятся торговая галерея, многофункциональный развлекательный центр (в прошлом олимпийский медиа-центр), спортивные комплексы, ярмарка, магазины, аквапарк и детские площадки, школа сервиса и медицинский центр.
Вдоль курорта тянется горная река Мзымта: ее набережная с зонами для отдыха и широкие пешеходные зоны идеально подходят для прогулок отдыхающих.
На высоте +540м берет свое начало канатная дорога.
Верхний Город, на отметке +960м, больше подходит для спокойного уединенного отдыха. Его архитектура более аристократична и напоминает курортные города Италии, Испании, юга Франции.
Отели с большой территорией, малоэтажные таунхаусы и шале. Это Риксос Красная Поляна Сочи, Горки Отель (бывш. Солис Сочи Отель), Горки Отель Сьютc (бывш. Солис Сочи Сьютc), Долина 960, Горки Панорама, Горки Арт, Горки Гранд и Апартаменты Горки Город 960. Общий номерной фонд – 1070 номеров.
На главной площади находится станция канатной дороги. Высота +960м располагает собственными ресторанами, барами и кафе, а также площадками для проведения культурных и спортивных мероприятий.

✦В мае всё прекрасно, аж жить хочется, когда вся зелень свежая, молодая и ещё не так жарко как в июле и августе, но температура воды в Черном море ещё прохладная (от +15 до +20 градусов).
✦В июне изобилие местных фруктов, вода в пределах 20-23 градусов, возможно что дожди смогут подпортить ваш отдых (год на год не приходится), зато посвободней на пляжах, обслуживание вежливое, нет невыносимой жары и цены невысокие.
✦Июль - жарковато, вода 23-27 градусов, цены растут на жильё (и не только) каждую неделю, пляж заполнен, погода стабильная.
✦Август - жара, вода в море от 26 до 28 градусов, цены высокие, обслуживание хромает (все уже устали), на пляжах практически нет мест, после 20-го числа возможны дожди.
✦Сентябрь - сказка, всё прекрасно, если погода не подведёт, вода от 26 до 22 градусов, на пляжах больше свободных мест.
✦Октябрь - еще тепло и вода совсем не остыла (от +22 до +18 градусов), до 20-х чисел погода обычно радует.

✦Пляжи в Лазаревском очень разнообразны, есть места где море практически упирается в скалистый берег (такие места есть на периферии), но в основном пляжи широкие и с мелкой галькой. Крупная галька встречается вблизи горных рек, это объясняется тем, что во время ливней реки несут в море большие камни, а шторм выбрасывает их на берег, но стоит отойти немного в сторону от устья реки, размер гальки заметно уменьшается, постепенно переходящая в крупный песок. Точно сказать где будет этот песок (на каком пляже) затруднительно, так как шторма постоянно меняют галечную структуру на пляжах. Отдыхающим нужно знать одно - чем дальше от реки, тем меньше размер гальки, но огромных валунов и камней, какие встречаются в Крыму, на сочинском побережье нет.

A road trip into Russia's interior, far from all-consuming FIFA World Cup signage, takes us through the deserted hamlet of Staraya Sakhcha. Сочи, Красная поляна: здесь плохо абсолютно всё
На строительство и благоустройство курорта Горки Город в Сочи потратили кучу денег. Как итог — через пять лет после Олимпиады всё развалилось.
Здесь нет ничего хорошего: дома разваливаются и гниют, плитка заросла мхом и стала кривой, на набережной нет никаких пандусов, но есть строительный мусор и кривые лестницы. Качество обшивки — ужасное, качество работ — ужасное. Они даже пешеходную улицу не смогли нормально сделать.
