The Social Impact Tour highlights various social entrepreneurs around Monrovia, offering participants with a view of the innovative business landscape and an alternative perspective of Monrovia that most do not get to see.
Social entrepreneurs visited:
*Accountability Film School: a film school that trains youth to make and produce films based on anti-corruption and accountability issues
*National Water Transport Service: a water taxi that provides a low-cost alternative to Monrovia's congested and inefficient road transportation network
*Falama, Inc.: women-run business that produces organic food products, improving livelihoods by offering employment and skills-training
*Daily Talk: alternative news outlet that makes information accessible to low-income citizens who cannot afford newspapers or the internet, empowering them to hold those in positions of authority accountable
*Green Center: Liberia's first waste segregation management and recycling center -- providing employment and training, as well as helping to keep Monrovia's water and land clean

Tracking Liberia's port Monrovia project
For 14 years until 2003 Liberia was gripped by a shockingly violent civil war. Infrastructure collapsed, thousands died and the country all but came to a standstill. The gateway to the Liberian economy Monrovia's Port, once the pride of the region, was destroyed. Then in 2010, a 25 year concession was struck and APM Terminals took over operating and developing the port's terminal. USD $120 million has since been invested in terminal infrastructure, with more to come, and trade through the port has increased by 30% in just 2 years. Its Africa's Time went to investigate this public-private partnership; track its impact on the country; and meet the people and SMME's whose lives are being transformed because of it.

Missing all about the streets of Monrovia ....
This video shows part of Old Road in Monrovia, Liberia. We've been there in June 2014 for liberiaprojekt.de. Liberiaprojekt associates German and Liberian Activities towards better understanding and higher education. The Project had been initiated in 2002 as a students' charity program named: Schüler helfen Schülern. This program created the slogan From Street to School and wanted to give young Liberian Child Soldiers a chance. 10 years after the war the program has become a vibrant partnership: Students in Germany are still raising funds to help Liberians pay their school fees, tuitions, school material and even some tutoring. But Liberians are catching up in this. Liberian people are creative, couraged and ready to work for peace and honesty. Their German Network-Partners provide the background they need to express their own dreams. Those who meet in the German Liberian Pen Pal Program - which is the Social Network in the Liberiaprojekt - regard themselves as free, well informed and socially involved citizens. Some are young and in school. They learn to express themselves better and they get to know some of the former scholarship students, who are ready to share their experiences. Liberiaprojekt creates friendship across social classes in Liberia and it paves the way for an international dialogue. The typical frustration which is known in any interculturual dialogue can be managed continuosly while letters are exchanged and during the yearly visits. Sponsoring and social networking provide a strong fundament for individual development. Liberiaprojekt offers a sustainable approach to global partnership. Scholarship ends with the High-School Graduation. Friendship doesn't. Scholarship is paid in Liberia only, Pen Pals live in both countries: Germany and Liberia. Young and Talent, Monrovia Liberia
I was visiting a local market in Suburb of Monrovia.
I was touched by the amount of amazing talent that I saw in the market.
The market was full of women with young children, they are working hard to earn a dignified living.
Amazing to know that these women were young and also intelligent and proud of their work.
We need to reach out to people of this positive mental alchemy to promote life and way of positive life for the community and in turn for the future of Liberia.

Palm Oil in Liberia (Video 2)
Video 2 of 3.
A new investigation by Friends of the Earth has revealed that a palm oil company in Liberia continues to drive deforestation, habitat destruction, and human rights violations in some of the most dense rainforests in West Africa. These findings show that Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL) is actively destroying rainforests that are home to chimpanzees, hippos, and thousands of people who have lived and worked upon these lands for generations.
BlackRock, the multi-trillion dollar Wall Street asset manager, is invested in the company that backs GVL. BlackRock has recently proclaimed itself a leader in responsible investing. We need to let them know that their support of this abuse and environmental destruction is unacceptable.
