On her journey to Wajima she also discovers the heart of Japan away from the cities, into the rural areas of north central Japan.

【ふるさと郡上TV】せぎ板
郡上八幡には、いたる所に用水があり山からの湧き水が絶え間なく流れています。
江戸時代の初期に当時の八幡城主が作らせたと言われているこの用水は、昭和38年に八幡町の上水道が完成するまでは飲み水以外はすべてこの用水の水を利用していました。せぎ板(堰板)はその用水を自宅前でせき止める為の幅30センチの板です。時間帯を分けて水を使い分けることを申し合わせ、朝の8時頃までが米とぎ・野菜洗い・茶碗洗い、その後は洗濯など、子どもが学校から帰るころから夕方までは子どもの遊びと汚れが少ない水作業に使うなどしており、さらに水を使うときは、上手、下手を確認し、他の人の水使用が終わるまで待つなどの気配りをしていました。
現在でも柳町・職人町は各家庭に板を所有しているところが多く、水を大切に使い守っています。
The waterway system in Gujo-Hachiman was originally constructed by the castle lord 遠藤常友(ENDO Tsunetomo 1628-1676). Since then, the water has been used by town people for their daily life: washing rice and vegetables, doing the laundries, watering, etc.
せぎ板(Segi-ita), a wooden water barrier is a very convenient tool. It can make the water level higher and people can use the water running in the waterway easily.
Almost every house in 柳町(Yanagi-machi) and 職人町(shokunin-machi) area has its own せぎ板(Segi-ita).
They can use the water in front of their house at anytime they need. This is really wonderful and useful water system which was made long time ago.

アリの巣のような鍾乳洞。地下80mまで潜ります。余計な照明も、保護の用のアミもほとんどなく、近くで見て、触れられるのが魅力。広いし、絵になる鍾乳石もいっぱいです。ここは元が取れる鍾乳洞と思いました。

【岐阜県郡上市】郡上八幡 八幡城紅葉 Gujo Hachiman
郡上八幡のシンボル「八幡城」は標高354mの八幡山に立つ城で、昭和8年（1933）に建てられ木造再建城としては全国で最も古い城です。再建のモデルとなった岐阜県大垣市にある大垣城は昭和20年（1945）7月29日の空襲により惜しくも焼失し昭和34年（1959）に再建されています。八幡城の周りにはカエデ、モミジ、ナラ、ヤマザクラが多くあり11月中旬から紅葉が楽しめます。地元の人は「八幡城」とは呼ばないで「お城」と呼んでいて朝の散歩コースに選んでいる人も多くみえます。

Made a detour to the town of Gujo Hachiman before returning to Tokyo. Gujo is known as the Town of Water. No kidding huh. They are also known for their obon festival in August when people come from all over. Spent a wet and cold couple hours there.

Gujo Hachiman is a town of water and a castle in Gifu Prefecture.
There are canals in the town and people wash vegetables and clothes there.
Gujo Hachiman-jo or Gujo Hachiman castle was constructed in 1559 and demolished in 1870. After that, it was reconstructed in 1933.
The holes on the walls of the castle are called sama and it means arrow-slit. During a war, samurai aimed arrows and guns at enemies through them.

郡上八幡は岐阜県にある水と城の町です。町中には疎水があり、野菜や洗濯物などを洗うのに使います。
郡上八幡城は永禄2年（1559年）に作られましたが、明治3年（1870年）に取り壊されました。その後、昭和8年（1933年）に再建されました。
城の塀にある穴は狭間（さま）と呼ばれ、戦の時にはそこから弓矢や鉄砲で攻撃しました。

Nesse episódio de Aventuras no Japão, eu mostro a cidade histórica de Gujo Hachiman, em Gifu-Ken, Japão. Gujo é uma cidade estilo turística, calma, pacata, mas com muita história. A cidade ainda preserva construções antigas como ruas, castelos e casas que foram construídas centenas de anos atrás. A cidade também é famosa pelo seu festival de dança ( Matsuri, em japonês), que é realizado no verão.
Há algo de mágico nessa cidade, sempre fica aquela sensação de tristeza na despedida, e não importa quantas vezes já visitamos a cidade, sempre queremos voltar :)
