Some old and hasty exterior shots of the infamous and beautiful Uvdal Stave Church. The church is situated at Uvdal in Nore and Uvdal municipality, which is in the valley Numedal in Norway. The stave church was originally constructed just after the year 1168, which we know through dendrochronological dating of the pine tree used during the construction. The logs were not completely dry when the construction took place.

abandoned village in Putin's Russia
350-year anniversary celebrated village of Znamenka Nerchinsk district. On the ground, where today revives the Cossacks, gathered guests from several neighboring municipalities. And although the festivities were on a Grand scale, from the feast instead of the waste received is only profit. What? And in what it is expressed?
It all began with a solemn prayer. So for centuries in the former Darginskoy the house, and now Znamenka, began the celebrations. This and many other traditions in the village are not forgotten today. That's the favorite Cossack lava show the audience the indigenous people. This is an ancient method of fighting the Cossacks. Without it, they say, is not passed, no opposition.
Andrei Maslov, cornet,Ataman Znamenskaya stanitsa: This is an old tradition, we must remember the life of the Cossack, first, that people were good to love their old traditions to respect adults to honor their loved ones. I believe that we are raising the right generation and in the future they will honor the tradition.
On the stage, a festive action takes place, an exhibition of applied creativity of rural masters works nearby. Those who wish to get acquainted with the history and features of this territory. Nearby - shopping malls, beckon the buyer with colorful textile products and the smell of homemade cakes. All proceeds on this day, many traders decided to transfer to the Fund for the restoration of the Znamenskaya Church.
Tamara Kolosova, a resident of S. Znamenka: they Cooked pies, pancakes, pizza, kvass, they made this money for the restoration of the Church, because the Cossacks, which is being revived today, it has never been without the Church.
Alexander Novikov, head of the rural settlement Znamenskoye: the Cossacks joined this life, and even the cadet school was opened, we have more than 70 cadets. In the future, there will be its management in General will still be the village of Znamenskaya.
In this day above the village, having a history of 350 years, are of the Cossack songs. And in the building of the old Church, despite such a Grand celebration, restoration work continues. Together, the villagers have already raised funds for the roof and installed a cross. Say together you can do any thing. Not only to preserve the traditions, but also to give new life to the village with such a great and rich history.

Best of Winter - Nes, Norway
Dronegutta proudly presents the best of winter - Nes municipality, Norway.
Kvinnherad, Norway (Skorpo, Uskedal, Folgefonna) - September 2018
This was my first time in Norway, and it is hard to find the words to describe my experience. I got to stay on a remote island in the province of Kvinnherad with an incredible family who live on an island where they among the many things they do is milk cows, harvest honey, and build and repair boats - the old fashioned way.
The land that was once home to the vikings, whose feats become all that more impressive when you see the scale of the Norwegian landscape, I got to experience long hikes filled with life changing conversations about life and the importance of family, and help out in daily chores. I got to go fishing on the sea, and share in the feast afterwards, which with the help of some strong cider lead to some attempts at a cross language jam session.
Everywhere you look was like out of fairytale. There were fjords, and rainbows. Marshes filled with mushrooms, and rain. Lots, and Lots of Rain. Travel tip number one for Norway, is make sure you pack for the weather.

Sør-Varanger in Norway
Here are some pictures from Jarfjord Mountain and Grense-Jakobselv in Sør-Varanger in northern Norway in the summer of 2011.
Grense Jakobselv (nordsamisk: Vuorjánjohka) is a hamlet in South-Varanger municipality in Finnmark. The hamlet is located in a small valley where the Jakobselven flows north into the Varangerfjorden. The river marks the border with Russia. Previously, it was a permanent settlement in the valley, but this was abandoned in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Armed Forces has its northernmost border station in Grense, staffed by personnel from the border company in Garrison in South Varanger.
To mark Norway's suvernitet over areas east of James River, King Oscar II built a chapel in Grense. The chapel was consecrated in 1869.
Kong Oscar IIs kapell Located in Grense in Sør-Varanger municipality in Finnmark. The chapel was erected as a border protection against Russia, after the Russians had not respected the Norwegian border after border recovery in 1826. There is a church of stone with 72 seats. It was consecrated on 26 September 1869 by Bishop Frederick Waldemar Hvoslef, and restored in 1992. The architect for the chapel was Jacob Wilhelm Nordan.
It had since the first Norwegian settlement in Grense in 1851 was a desire among the Norwegian population to have its own chapel. Furthermore, it was the boundary expansion in 1826 is still disagreement between Norwegian authorities and Russian fishermen on the border. After reporting more severe confrontations between Norwegian and Russian fishermen magistrates, suggested the governor of Finnmark to allow a navy Navy conduct fisheries surveillance during the months when the fishery was going on. Interior Department wanted an independent investigation of the circumstances, and sent Lieutenant Commander Heyerdahl north to familiarize themselves with the case. Heyerdahl shared, however, not the Governor's views on the solution would be the most appropriate, and he proposed instead to erect a chapel at Grense.
The parallel to the Russian Orthodox chapel in Boris Gleb is striking, as recently it had been of crucial importance at the boundary expansion in 1826. An Evangelical Lutheran chapel would be a udiskuterbar boundary marking the border between Sweden-Norway and Russia. Thus fell the national security and Grense-population interests. In 1865 it was decided that it would build a chapel in the boundary and also a parsonage. Summer of 1869 was the new chapel built of granite finishes, and in September the same year was consecrated by Bishop Frederick Waldemar Hvoslef.
The name of the chapel was only when King Oscar II visited the 4th July 1873. In memory of the visit gave him the chapel is a marble plate with the inscription: King Oscar II heard the word of God here July 4, 1873 and the Sami, Gonagas Oscar II Gulai Ibmel sane dobe pond 4 ad in July 1873. At the same time he expressed a desire to get the church named after him. It was, of course, and they made a name plate that still hangs over the door. Because the chapel because of its location right from the start was an important landmark for mariners, and that it would be even more visible from the sea, the whitewashed chapel in 1883 and again in 1884. This white lime was removed in 1969 in connection with the chapel's 100 year anniversary. All church silver was stolen during the liberation of Finnmark in 1944.

Skagen Lighthouse, Frederikshavn, Region Nordjylland, North Denmark, Denmark, Europe
Skagen is a projection of land and a town, with a population of 8,220, in Region Nordjylland on the northernmost tip of Vendsyssel-Thy, a part of the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. Skagen is located in Frederikshavn municipality. Skagen takes its name from the region, which projects into the waters between the North Sea and the straits of Denmark. Skagen is considered the boundary between the Skagerrak (named after Skagen) and the Kattegat. At its very tip is a sandy, shifting headland known as Grenen. Here it's possible to experience the sight of waves clashing together from each side of the tip. Danish national road 40 also passes through Skagen. Skagen stretches out to the northeast surrounded by the following waters: to the east is Ålbæk Bay (Ålbæk Bugt) and beyond that the waters of the Kattegat, the strait that separates Denmark from Sweden, to the west is Tannis Bay (Tannis Bugt) and beyond that the waters of the Skagerrak, the strait that separates Denmark from Norway. The area is picturesque, and distinguished by its low, yellow houses with red tile roofs nestled into the beach areas. The impressive and wild landscape was largely formed by a severe process of desertification that hit the area in the 18th and 19th centuries. Problems with moving dunes and desertification were brought under control in the latter 19th and early 20th centuries by large-scale plantations of grasses, bushes and fir trees. Two significant migratory dunes remain in the area, including the enormous Råbjerg Mile. The area continues to be a popular tourist destination visited by many people each year. A highlight of the year is the celebration of Midsummer Eve or St. John's Evening (Sankt Hans Aften) on the beach with blazing bonfire and song. Skagen is the setting for small but important parts of Jonathan Coe's novels The Rotters Club and The Closed Circle. Always sparsely populated, until recently Skagen has been of interest mainly to mariners. Of the region now known as Skagen, Pliny the Elder says (Book IV.97): Promenturium Cimbrorum excurrens in maria longe paeninsulam efficit quae Tastris appellatur. The promontory of the Cimbri running far out into the seas makes a peninsula, which is called Tastris. The name Tastris is a hapax legomenon, recorded only once in all of history. Its meaning is not known; it may be the name assigned by the pre-Indo-European Mesolithic culture that once dwelled in the region, or by the subsequent agriculturalists. Skagen, on the other hand, seems to follow Pliny's description of a projection running out into the seas (maria). There is a set of obscure words in modern Germanic languages that seem relevant: English skeg, a projection of a ship's keel, shag, a surface with projections, Swedish skägg (pronounced sheg), beard. The root remains as yet unidentified. Once a remote fishing area, it become considerably easier to travel to Skagen after it became connected to the rest of the country via the Skagen railroad in 1890. A paved road followed in the 1940s. The headland at Grenen, the northernmost point of Denmark, is a spectacular setting where two parts of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea meet. Because of their different density we can see a clear line there that show their ridge. An excellent natural phenomenon. A turbulent seas and strandings beachings and shipwrecks are common. The frequent shipping losses and the strategic location as the gateway to the Baltic led to Skagen being the site of one of Denmark's earliest lighthouses, the Vippefyr, constructed in the 17th century. A reconstruction of the lighthouse is located to the north of the town of Skagen. The lighthouse was originally built and funded by the late Medieval Danish state with the proceeds of the sound dues, and was superseded by the white lighthouse or hvidefyr in the 17th century, and then the far taller grey lighthouse or gråfyr of the 1850s. The desertification that hit the area in the 18th and 19th centuries led to the abandonment of the old parish church to the migrating sands the famous Buried Church (Den tilsandende Kirke). The tower of the church remains protruding from the dunes, as it was left as a sea marker when the church was abandoned at the close of the 18th century. In central Skagen there is a teddy bear museum called Skagen Bamsemuseum. The teddy bears on display belong to the private collection of the owner Jonna Thygesen. To the north of the town, the Skagen Odde Nature Centre, open from May to late October, documents the natural elements. The area is closely associated with the Skagen Painters, a community of artists (artist colony), who flocked to this picturesque, and then unspoiled, area in the late 19th century to escape the city and to record artistically a way of life they realized was soon to disappear.
