The Nærøyfjord (or Nærøyfjorden) is a fjord in the municipality of Aurland in Sogn og Fjordane.
It is 20 km long, only 250 metres across at its narrowest and a mere 12 metres at its shallowest. The surrounding mountains reach heights of 1,660 metres,
The river Nærøydalselvi flows down the valley Nærøydalen into the fjord at the village of Gudvangen, near the highway E16. The village of Bakka and the Bakka church are located on the west shore of the fjord.
Since 2005, the Nærøyfjord has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has also been rated by the National Geographic Society as the world's number one natural heritage site along with the Geirangerfjord.
Gudvangen Fjordtell is the ideal place to begin a tour of the Sogn area’s many attractions. It is the starting point for ferries that provide fjord tours as well as transportation to the places of interest for which Sogn is famous
We drove inside the fjord 5 km to Bakka that had not been in our plan..
Wow! The narrowest point of Nærøyfjord…
אוסלו נורווגיה Norway Oslo
As of January 2013, the population of the municipality of Oslo in excess of 623,000.[14] The urban area extends beyond the boundaries of the municipality into the surrounding county of Akershus, (municipalities of Bærum, Asker, Røyken, Lørenskog, Skedsmo, Gjerdrum, Sørum, Oppegård) its agglomeration total 951,581 inhabitants.[15] The metropolitan area of Oslo, also referred to as the Greater Oslo Region (Norwegian: Stor-Osloregionen), has a land area of 8,900 km2 (3,400 sq mi)[16] with a population of 1,422,442 as of 1 April 2010. The Inner Oslo Fjord Region, or the Capital Region made up by the five counties of Oslo, Akershus, Buskerud, Vestfold (west bank of the Oslo
fjord) and Østfold (east bank) has a population of 1,980,116 people (as of January 2013). The city centre is situated at the end of the Oslofjord, from which point the city sprawls out in three distinct corridors from its centre; inland north-eastwards, and southwards along both sides of the fjord, which gives the urbanized area a shape reminiscent of an upside-down reclining Y (on maps, satellite pictures, or from high above the city).
To the north and east, wide forested hills (Marka) rise above the city giving the location the shape of a giant amphitheatre. The urban municipality (bykommune) of Oslo and county of Oslo (fylke) are two parts of the same entity, making Oslo the only city in Norway where two administrative levels are integrated. Of Oslo's total area, 115 km2 (44 sq mi) is built-up and 7 km2 (2.7 sq mi) is agricultural. The open areas within the built-up zone amount to 22 km2 (8.5 sq mi).
The city of Oslo was established as a municipality on 3 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). It was separated from the county of Akershus to become a county of its own in 1842. The rural municipality of Aker was merged with Oslo on 1 January 1948 (and simultaneously transferred from Akershus county to Oslo county). Furthermore, Oslo shares several important functions with Akershus county. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TAIWAN: DEMOLITION OF REFUGEES HOUSING
Mandarin/Nat
When residents of Taiwan's 44 South community arrived, they expected to stay five years and then return to China.
But, on Friday, when Taipei's municipal government finally razed what had become a ramshackle cluster of houses, some had stayed for five decades.
Ignoring appeals from preservationists to restore 44 South as a living museum of Taiwan's postwar history, backhoes crashed through its wood and brick structures today, ending a way of life once shared by tens of thousands of Chinese refugees.
Under a 1958 agreement, much of 44 South's land will go to a neighbouring primary school for a much-needed sports field.
SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin)
Well, I will go and sleep on the streets or maybe the president's office after the government tears down these buildings. I can't pay for a new home.
SUPER CAPTION: 44 South veteran
SOUNDBITE : (Mandarin)
They told everyone to be ready to retake the mainland in five years. That was old President Chiang's slogan. Now we're entering our tenth 'five years'.
SUPER CAPTION: Chang Tien-Tseh, the community's ward chief
SOUNDBITE : (Mandarin)
These buildings are too old and are dangerous to live in. It's not safe for children to stay under these roofs.
SUPER CAPTION: Second generation 44 South resident
As the civil war against the communists in mainland China began to go badly wrong for Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalist Party government, the former strongman saw Taiwan as his final stronghold and began moving troops there.
In 1948, the first residents moved into newly built homes, which derived their name from the adjacent Number 44 munitions plant.
The village, in what was then mostly farmland southeast of Taipei, was the first of hundreds which were hastily erected to house the massive influx of refugees that arrived after the mainland fell to the communists in 1949.
Taipei is still examining proposals to preserve a portion of the village, although a series of suspected arson fires have already destroyed many of the remaining homes.

Icelandic Traditional Music by Þórður Tómasson
Icelandic Traditional Music Instruments shown to us by Þórður Tómasson, a very hospitable founder of Skógasafn (Skógar Village Folk Museum, Iceland).
Skógar (pronounced [ˈskou.ar]), literally forests, is a small Icelandic village with a population of roughly 25 located at the south of the Eyjafjallajökull glacier, in the municipality of Rangárþing eystra.
The area is known for its waterfall, Skógafoss, on the Skógá river, which springs from 60 metres at the top of an eroded cliff. At Skógar is a folk museum, Skógasafn, open daily, all the year, as well as a museum on transport in Iceland.
Not far from Skógar is the Kvernufoss fall. Further upstream on the Skógá river there are many other spectacular falls. While climbing in the small forest behind the old school, some ruins of old farms can be seen and easily accessed.
This town was highly affected by the eruption of the Eyjafjalla volcano in 2010.

Birds Eye View of Altrich in Spring - Germany 4K Travel Channel
Altrich, a rural municipality in the district Bernkastel-Wittlich, is bounded by highways between Eifel and Mosel.
Here, the freeways form an important traffic hub between Cologne and Trier and further to Luxembourg, Saarbrücken or Mannheim, as well as from Brussels in Belgium to Frankfurt am Main. It is planned that the connection from Belgium to Frankfurt will be finished in 2018, when the expansion of High Moselle Crossing, a 170 m high bridge over the Moselle Valley, will be completed.
Furthermore, the railway line from Koblenz to Trier, the Saarland and Luxembourg passes here.
One can recognize that the area is strongly characterized by agriculture. Due to the good traffic infrastructure, some industrial enterprises have settled here. This has created jobs. The numerous new housing estates testify it.
Also the technology has found its way. Numerous photovoltaic and solar installations characterize the natural scenery. Traces of tractors on the fields were accurately drawn by GPS systems.
Nevertheless, one still finds some unspoiled areas. The extensive forest areas are home to deer and hares, badgers, wild cats, foxes and to the chagrin of farmers also for wild boars.

Lofoten is known for a distinctive scenery with dramatic mountains and peaks, open sea and sheltered bays, beaches and untouched lands. Though lying within the Arctic Circle, the archipelago experiences one of the world's largest elevated temperature anomalies relative to its high latitude. There is evidence of human settlement extending back at least 11,000 yrs in Lofoten, and the earliest archaeological sites ... are only about 5,500 yrs old, at the transition from the early to late Stone Age. Iron Age agriculture, livestock, and significant human habitation can be traced back to ~250 BCE.[1]
Svolvær in Lofoten, Norway. View from the ferry harbour.
The town of Vågan (Norse Vágar) is the first known town formation in northern Norway. It existed in the early Viking Age, maybe earlier, and was located on the southern coast on eastern Lofoten, near today's village Kabelvåg in Vågan municipality. However, the Lofotr Viking Museum with the reconstructed 83-meter-long longhouse (the largest known) is located near Borg on Vestvågøy, which has many archeological finds from the Iron Age and Viking Age.[2]
The islands have for more than 1,000 years been the centre of great cod fisheries, especially in winter, when the cod migrates south from the Barents Sea and gathers in Lofoten to spawn. Bergen in southwestern Norway was for a long time the hub for further export south to different parts of Europe, particularly so when trade was controlled by the Hanseatic League. In the lowland areas, particularly Vestvågøy, agriculture plays a significant role, as it has done since the Bronze Age.
Lofotr was originally the name of the island of Vestvågøy only. Later it became the name of the chain of islands. The chain of islands with its pointed peaks looks like a lynx foot from the mainland. In Norwegian, it is always a singular. Another name one might come across, is Lofotveggen or the Lofoten wall. The archipelago looks like a closed wall when seen from elevated points around Bodø or when arriving from the sea, some 100 kilometres (62 miles) long, and 800–1,000 metres (2,600–3,300 feet) high.
In 1941, the islands were raided by British Commandos during Operation Claymore in March and a subsequent diversionary attack to support the Vaagso raid in December.
