KHUFU'S (Kheops) SOLAR BOAT Museum :
This Museum is Located at the Shadow of The Great Pyramid in Giza,
and here is Exposed a Khufu's (Kheops) Solar Boat Discovered in 1954, this boat had been dismantled in ancient times and placed in a pit to the south of the pyramid. A second boat still lies in a similar pit directly to the west of the first pit. Scholars are divided over whether these boats were symbolic solar barks for the king to use in his afterlife, or funeral boats, used to transport Khufu’s funerary equipment to his pyramid.
Reconstructed during13 years of work, the boat was placed in this museum. Ramps and stairs allow the visitor to see the boat from various angles and at different levels. The museum’s display also includes photographs of the excavation and restoration of the boat as well as samples of ancient rope and other boat-related materials.

On the south side of the Pyramid of Cheops is located the Solar Boat Museum. Here is an Egyptian boat in 1954 was found in a slot next to the Pyramid.

It was a beautiful boat made of cedar. Nearly 44 meters long and we have admired from all sides.

It`s incredible that they were able to make thousands of years ago ..


The boat consists of 1224 wooden parts are put together without screws. It is fastened with wooden pins and hemp rope.

Experts need 14 years to the put the parts together. He is a solar boat named because it resembles the boats on the tomb paintings.

The sun-god made his daily journey across the sky in the boat. Signs suggest that the boat has sailed the boat before he was buried.

It is suspected that the boat served as a funeral boat that the body of Khufu from Memphis to his tomb at Giza brought.

Aan de zuidkant van de Piramide van Cheops bevind zich het Zonnebootmuseum. Hier ligt een Egyptische boot die in 1954 is gevonden in een sleuf naast de Piramide.

Het was een prachtige boot van gemaakt van cederhout. Bijna 44 meter lang en die we van alle kanten hebben kunnen bewonderen.

Ongelofelijk dat ze dit hebben kunnen maken duizenden jaren geleden ..

De boot bestaat uit 1224 houten delen die zonder schroeven in elkaar zijn gezet.

Er is gebruik gemaakt van houten deuvels en henneptouw. Experts hadden 14 jaar nodig om de delen samen te voegen.

Hij wordt een zonneboot genoemd omdat hij lijkt op de boten op de grafschilderingen. De zonnegod maakte zijn dagelijkse tocht in de boot langs de hemel.

Tekens op de boot suggereren dat de boot gevaren heeft voordat hij werd begraven. Vermoed wordt dat de boot diende als begrafenisboot die het lichaam van Cheops van Memphis naar zijn graf in Gizeh bracht.

The ship was one of two rediscovered in 1954 by Kamal el-Mallakh – undisturbed since it was sealed into a pit carved out of the Giza bedrock. It was built largely of Lebanon cedar planking in the shell-first construction technique, using unpegged tenons of Christ's thorn. The ship was built with a flat bottom composed of several planks, but no actual keel, with the planks and frames lashed together with Halfah grass, and has been reconstructed from 1,224 pieces which had been laid in a logical, disassembled order in the pit beside the pyramid.



Reconstruction

It took years for the boat to be painstakingly reassembled, primarily by the Egyptian Department of Antiquities' chief restorer, Ahmed Youssef Moustafa (later known as Haj Ahmed Youssef).Before reconstructing the boat, he had to gain enough experience on Ancient Egyptian boat-building. He studied the reliefs carved on walls and tombs, and many of the little wooden models of ships and boats found in tombs. Hag Ahmed visited the Nile boatyards of Old Cairo and Ma'adi and went to Alexandria, where wooden river boats were still being made. He hoped that modern Egyptian shipwrights might have retained ship building methods that would suggest how Ancient Egyptians built their ships. Then he investigated the work of shipwrights who built in a different tradition.
The history and function of the ship are not precisely known. It is of the type known as a solar barge, a ritual vessel to carry the resurrected king with the sun god Ra across the heavens. However, it bears some signs of having been used in water, and it is possible that the ship was either a funerary barge used to carry the king's embalmed body from Memphis to Giza, or even that Khufu himself used it as a pilgrimage ship to visit holy places and that it was then buried for him to use in the afterlife.

The Khufu ship has been on display to the public in a specially built museum at the Giza pyramid complex since 1982.

EGYPT: REMAINS OF ORIGINAL SOLAR BOAT TO GO ON SHOW SOON

Tourists visiting Egypt will soon get the chance to view the remains of an original solar boat built to transport King Cheops to the afterlife.

A camera is to be built into the ground to enable tourists to view the boat for the first time.

Project organisers hope that the money raised from this project will allow the boat to be eventually excavated and exhibited in a new museum.

A museum, housing a second solar boat, has been criticised for its close vicinity to the pyramids. It's hoped to display the two boats together in the new museum which won't spoil the view of the pyramids.

This is largest and best-preserved boat known to have survived from the ancient world.

It is believed to have belonged to King Cheops, the builder of the largest pyramid.

It is widely believed that it was built four-thousand 600 years ago to transport the king to the afterlife after his death - although there is no evidence that it was actually used.

In ancient Egypt's sun cult, two boats would have been required for that journey, one to cross the horizon in the daytime and another to enter and exit the underworld of the night.

The remains of the so-called solar boat were found in 1954.

They were restored on site and then enclosed in this museum close to the Cheops pyramid.

But lately the museum has come under criticism for its close proximity to the pyramids.

Now there are plans to move the museum to another site.

It's hoped to raise the money for the project by charging tourists to view a second boat, which is still underground.

Every tourist they will visit the sealed boat, because we'll make a camera and install it underneath the ground connected with a screen and therefore people can see what's inside. The money that comes by from this will be used to make two new museums for the two boats in another location away from the great pyramid.

The second solar boat was left underground because of its bad condition.

One explanation for the twin pits is that the boat from the first represents the solar journey and that the still-sealed pit contains a nocturnal vessel, possibly with artifacts to protect the pharaoh from the perils of the night.

The project organisers hope that the money collected will not only be used to restore the boat, but will build a big enough new museum away from the pyramids to house both boats.

And the plan has the backing of the tourists.

These photographs at the museum record the restoration work carried out on the first boat in the 1950s.

Laid out in 13 layers, the 651 parts broke down into 1,224 individual pieces and required 10 years for reconstruction.

Not a single screw was used in building the boat. Only original materials such as cedar wood and ropes were used.

In future tourists will not only be able to see the second solar boat, they will have an uncluttered view of the pyramids.

Solar Boat of Cheops Museum

The very unique museum protects and displays the Solar Boat of King Cheops The 5000 year old large wooden boat was found behind the Great Pyramid of Giza ing Egypt in 1954 packed neatly in pieces in 50 yard long storage ditch. The Solar Boat was put together and the musuem built around the boat in the 1980's.
