2012 JCI TOYP Honoree Keneilwe Moseki

For her extraordinary work in community empowerment and conservation,
Keneilwe Moseki of Gaborone, Botswana was named a 2012 JCI Ten
Outstanding Young Persons of the World (JCI TOYP) recipient in the
category of moral and/or environmental leadership.

Keneilwe Moseki's interest in improving the environment and infrastructure of
the world around her led her to earn a degree in urban and regional planning
from the University of Botswana. She began her work experience with nongovernmental
organizations (NGOs) focused on project planning and
environmental management. During this time, she developed skills while
collaborating with government and civil sectors to execute advocacy projects
for environmental protection.

Moseki's successes in the design, implementation and management of these
projects made her a great choice for Director of Somarelang Tikologo, one of
the leading environmental NGOs in Botswana. Through this position, Moseki
has initiated environmental awareness and conservation programs. She also
developed an initiative focused on teaching refugees how to earn an income
through creating green crafts while also managing waste in their camp and
nearby neighborhood.

Focused on her community and the environment, Moseki started an urban
community empowerment project where low-income families were taught
how to develop backyard gardens to increase their food supply and
household income. The government picked up this concept and expanded
the initiative across the country. Through innovation and a mission to protect
her fellow citizens and the environment around them, Moseki's actions
inspire others to take responsibility for protecting the natural resources that
sustain life in their communities.
