A quick description of the purpose and goals for the urban wetland project near Beverly Street and the Trans Canada highway in North Cowichan. This project is a collaboration between the Somenos Marsh Wildlife Society and the Municipality of North Cowichan. It is funded the the Government of Canada's National Wetland Conservation fund and the municipality. We are hosting a community meeting with the Cowichan Community Land Trust (CCLT) to launch the S-amuna’| Somenos and Kw’amutsun | Quamichan Lakes Clean Water Action project.
The SMWS and the CCLT are teaming up to work with residents and other community partners to help address water quality issues in Somenos and Quamichan Lakes through local stewardship actions.
Come join us on February 28th at the Cowichan Valley Inn to learn more about the Clean Water Action Project and how you can get involved!
We will have guest speakers Tim Kulchyski from Cowichan tribes, Dr. Dave Preikshot, RPBio. Stephanie Cottell (CCLT) and Elizabeth Aitken (SMWS).
Learn about the significance of S-amuna’ and Kw’amutsun Lakes, recent water quality studies, and how you can help make a difference to improve local water quality and wildlife habitat.
