Bermuda Cruise Port Guide: St. George's and Blue Hole Park
In this video, we’ll provide an overview of our first day in Bermuda, when we visited St. George’s, a few of St. George’s beaches, and the Blue Hole Park nature preserve in Hamilton Parish.
Our ship -- the Celebrity Summit -- docked at the Royal Naval Dockyard port for three days in August of 2019. During our stay, we used Bermuda’s bus and ferry system to explore on our own.

CITY OF ST. GEORGE'S - BERMUDA

Bermuda Vacation 1979 ~ Mopeds, Holiday Inn Views & a Cruise to the Wreck Vixen
Some rare footage of a 1979 vacation at the Holiday Inn in St. Georges taken by the The Motorcycle Gang. Lots of mopeds in the parking lot and practicing by the hotel entrance then a stop at the town of St. Georges and St. Peter's Church and graveyard. A stop outside of the White Horse Tavern & lots of sailboats docked at Ordnance Island with the replica of the ship Deliverance.
A photo in the ducking stool chair is a must!
A stop at Somers Garden and then on to Tobacco Bay.
Some footage shot from the hotel of St. Catherine's fort and beach.
Then to Hamilton to catch a cruise past the Hamilton Princess and a less developed Warwick shoreline. The condominium development Mizzentop is likely in its 1st or 2nd phase. Past Somerset Bridge and what looks like a one of the Greenpeace Sea Shepard boats from the port of Hull.
We end at the bow of the wreck Vixen about to board a glass bottom boat.
Some information on the Holiday Inn site - It has never been successful and spent 20+ years abandoned. Fortunately a new hotel is taking shape today (2018) for a St. Regis Hotel situated on the beach.
This hotel was built on fort Victoria on Retreat Hill overlooking St. Catherine's Fort and Beach. The Holiday Inn opened in 1973 and was sold in 1981 to the Loews Hotel group and then to Club Med in 1985. Closed in 1987 it was spectacularly imploded in 2008.
Bermuda Vacation 1954 ~ Arrive by Air & Leave by Ship, Mizzentop Cottages & Easter Floral Parade
On Coral Beach, confirming this vacation is from 1954!
A low landing over St. Davids with views of Swing Bridge, Severn Bridge and US Base.
Outside of St John's Church in Pembroke, the graves sporting Easter flowers and almost a forest of cedars. Arriving at Darrell's Wharf by ferry then cruise past the Ocean Monarch and Queen of Bermuda at dock. Some great houses and lots of flowers, on the dock with ferry arriving, likely at the Watford Bridge stop.
The Mizzentop cottages and view on Harbor Road, Warwick (all have been demolished or modified as part of the large luxury condominium development that exists today. Constructed in stages: phase 1 in 1972, phase 2 in 1976 and phase 3 in 1981 - thanks Belair!) then its a cab ride in Paget on South Road past a souvenir shop and 2 taxi's (owner of T1225 Sweets Mello?), some great gardens of flowers stopping at the Perfume Factory and a field of Easter Lillies.
On to Swizzle Inn then back on the road passing a house and carriage on the way East. A stop at the Airport then arrival at St. Georges. Interior of St. Peters church (dark) decorated for Easter. Water Street and the Town Square.
A stop on North Shore with the driver and a glimpse up Old Maids Lane.
Back at Mizzentop with its undeveloped hillside from Harbor Road.
A stop at Gibbs Hill Lighthouse then lunch at Coral Beach.
Floral Easter Parade on front Street - Horse and carriage assumed with the Governor? (Lt. Gen. Sir Alexander Hood) followed by Majorettes and floral floats across the street from Masters Limited, Calypso, the Longtail Club and ending with a marching band.
Departure on the Ocean Monarch?, waving goodbye to Front Street and passing the Bank of Bermuda, Albouys Point, Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, Bermudiana Hotel & Barr's Bay, Princess Hotel and cottages and out through the islands. On North Shore 4 planes pass.
Some life on deck, swimming pool and arrival in New York..
Beautiful beach in Bermuda, Horseshoe Bay Beach
Bermuda (UK: /bəˈmjuːdə/; US: /bɚˈmjuːdə/) is a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is approximately 1,070 km (665 mi) east-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina; 1,236 km (768 mi) south of Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia; and 1,578 km (981 mi) north of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The capital city is Hamilton. Bermuda is an associate member of CARICOM.
The first person known to have reached Bermuda was the Spanish sea captain Juan de Bermúdez in 1503, after whom the islands are named. He claimed the islands for the Spanish Empire. Bermúdez never landed on the islands, but made two visits to the archipelago, of which he created a recognisable map. Shipwrecked Portuguese mariners are now thought to have been responsible for the 1543 inscription on Portuguese Rock (previously called Spanish Rock).[6] Subsequent Spanish or other European parties are believed to have released pigs there, which had become feral and abundant on the island by the time European settlement began. In 1609, the English Virginia Company, which had established Jamestown in Virginia two years earlier, permanently settled Bermuda in the aftermath of a hurricane, when the crew and passengers of the Sea Venture steered the ship onto the surrounding reef to prevent its sinking, then landed ashore.
The island was administered as an extension of Virginia by the Company until 1614. Its spin-off, the Somers Isles Company, took over in 1615 and managed the colony until 1684. At that time, the company's charter was revoked, and the English Crown took over administration. The islands became a British colony following the 1707 unification of the parliaments of Scotland and England, which created the Kingdom of Great Britain. After 1949, when Newfoundland became part of Canada, Bermuda became the oldest remaining British Overseas Territory. Since the return of Hong Kong to China in 1997, it is the most populous Territory. Its first capital, St. George's, was established in 1612 and is the oldest continuously inhabited English town in the New World.[7]
Bermuda's economy is based on offshore insurance and reinsurance, and tourism, the two largest economic sectors.[7][8] Bermuda had one of the world's highest GDP per capita for most of the 20th century[9] and several years beyond. Recently, its economic status has been affected by the global recession. It has a subtropical climate.[10] Bermuda is the northernmost point of the Bermuda Triangle, a region of sea in which, according to legend, a number of aircraft and surface vessels have disappeared under supposedly unexplained or mysterious circumstances. The island is in the hurricane belt and prone to severe weather. However, it is somewhat protected from the full force of a hurricane by the coral reef that surrounds the island.[11]

Bermuda is a British island territory in the North Atlantic Ocean known for its pink-sand beaches such as Elbow Beach and Horseshoe Bay. Its massive Royal Naval Dockyard complex combines modern attractions like the interactive Dolphin Quest with maritime history at the National Museum of Bermuda. The island has a distinctive blend of British and American culture, which can be found in the capital, Hamilton.

Hamilton Bermuda
ISLANDS Bermuda (fully, The Bermuda Islands, alias The Somers Isles) is an overseas territory of the United Kingdom in the North Atlantic Ocean, situated around 600 miles (975 km) off the coast of the United States. Although commonly referred to in the singular, it consists of around 138 islands, of total area 58.8 square kilometres (27.7 sq. mi). Compiling a list of these islands is often complicated, as many have more than one name (as does the entire archipelago, which, in addition to its two official names, has historically been known as La Garza, Virgineola, and the Isle of Devils). Despite the limited land mass, there has also been a tendency for place names to be repeated (there are two Long Islands, for instance, and two Long Bays, and St. George's town is located on the island of the same name, within the parish also called St. George's). The largest island, Main Island (also called Bermuda, or Great Bermuda), is the location of the capital, the City of Hamilton (which is in Pembroke Parish, and is often confused with Hamilton Parish). Bermuda has a thriving economy, with a large financial sector and tourism industry. WIKIPEDIA

SUMMARY
=======
Bermuda () is a British Overseas Territory in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is approximately 1,070 km (665 mi) east-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina; 1,236 km (768 mi) south of Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia; and 1,759 km (1,093 mi) north of Cuba. The capital city is Hamilton. Bermuda is self-governing, with its own constitution and its own government, which enacts local laws, while the United Kingdom retains responsibility for defence and foreign relations.
Bermuda's two largest economic sectors are offshore insurance and reinsurance, and tourism. Bermuda had one of the world's highest GDP per capita for most of the 20th century. The island has a subtropical climate and lies in the hurricane belt and thus is prone to related severe weather; however, it is somewhat protected by a coral reef that surrounds the island and its position at the north of the belt, which limits the direction and severity of approaching storms.
