In this film clip I visited Sonchana Farm & Elephant Sanctuary at Khao Sok National Park in southern Thailand.


This was one of the best things I have done in Thailand so far. At the elephant sanctuary I got the chance to feed, swim and scrub the elephant. My guide also gave me a lot of interesting information about the history of elephants in Thailand. I learned for instance, of how elephants were used for war, labour and the tourist industry.

Thailand is probably my favourite country in the world. The food, the people, the climate and the culture is amazing. There is always something to do in this beautiful country.

Come and join me when I travel around Thailand. I will be visiting some of the most popular tourist destination but I will also be visiting some of the more unknown destinations, i.e. the so called unseen Thailand to find the hidden gems for you.

Ik maakte deze video om het verschrikkelijke ritueel van de Phajaan aan te kaarten bij zovele onwetende touristen.
Olifanten worden op verschrikkelijke wijze misbruikt, om ze klaar te maken voor de stromen touristen die een ritje op hun rug willen maken.
Gelukkig komen er steeds meer en meer sanctuary's als Sonchana Farm & Elephant sanctuary die aantonen dat het ook op een veel betere manier kan, en die trachten zoveel mogelijk olifanten uit deze verschrikkelijke toestanden te bevrijden.
Na het begaan van dezelfde fout als zovele anderen (door onwetendheid) voelde ik mij moreel verplicht tot het maken van deze video, in de hoop dat het anderen kan aanzetten de juiste beslissing te nemen bij hun volgende bezoek aan Azie.


I made this video to address the terrible ritual of the Phajaan with so many ignorant tourists.
Elephants are abused in a terrible way, to prepare them for the streams of tourists who want to take a ride on their backs.
Fortunately, there are more and more sanctuary's as Sonchana Farm & Elephant sanctuary which show that it can also be done in a much better way, and they try to free as many elephants as possible from these terrible conditions.
After committing the same mistake as so many others (through ignorance), I felt morally obliged to make this video, hoping it could encourage others to make the right decision on their next visit to Asia.
