KĀKOU – Hawai‘i’s Town Hall The Global Squeeze: How Do We Keep Hawaiʻi Hawaiʻi? | Program
In our second live town hall, we pause to consider where we are, and where we want to be. Change is inevitable. Some changes come quietly, incrementally, over years; others seem to emerge all of a sudden and nearly full-blown. How is Hawai‘i changing – for better, for worse, or both?
This is not a conversation about major controversial events that have been dividing our community. This is not a conversation about pro-this, or anti-that. This is a discussion about the finer details of life in Hawai‘i that affect our sense of place. What details compromise the core essence of Hawai‘i – and where are we willing to draw the line?
We’ve invited 40 individuals from across the state to participate in this frank, respectful and community-based discussion in our studio. We invite you to join the conversation through email and social media, using the hashtag #pbskakou.

GOLDAWN WON _ SWEET LOVE
SWEET LOVE (radio version)
by Goldawn Won aka_Jimmy Jacob (The Hawaiian Barry White).
| Alternative | Wailuku, Hawaii_ (Where sea meets the sky).
Golden Won's Mission is: To uplift and inspire The Aloha Spirit.
Recorded at G.M.U MAUI ISLAND PRODUCTIONS
Earth RUNNINS/808CONNECTS LLC
Artist Bio
Goldawn Won is one of the first Asiatic-Pacific islander born to rise like the sun, shining the aloha and enlightenment of love worldwide in the name of hip hop.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 29th 1979, Goldawn Won a.k.a Gee Cee spent his early years in the prominently black and Hispanic outskirts of northern Virginia where he felt the racial tension of being an Asian American at a very young age. Dealing with these cultural and racial boundaries were difficult but being an outcast of an outcast society only made him strong, determined, and ready for success. This exposure to the rough and tumble, cut throat world helped teach him valuable lessons of survival.
It took awhile but soon his east coast mentality, that helped build his character and survival skills, meshed with the messages of aloha and thus his newfound hip hop meets Hawaii Spirit was born. Local friends and musicians helped build his aloha and add to his passion for helping others through hip hop.
The Hawaii rapper, spoken wordsmith and promoter's passion for the music and razor sharp street sense would soon reveal itself on the island of Maui.
Driven to make the most of any and all opportunities to put Maui hip hop on the map the stage, studio and cipher circles on all the Hawaiian islands became the perfect emotional outlet.
Through his work with the youth of Hawaii he has not only taken the necessary steps toward manifesting his own destiny but the next generation as well. On stage as well as in life, Goldawn Won's believes that a common man's struggles should never define his future. Hip hop music and artists like Tupac, Common, Biggie, Black Starr, Pharcyde, Naughty by Nature kept him alive.
Gee Cee started his career in local MC battles around the state and before you knew it he was opening up for Fatlip, Atmosphere, the Living Legends, Common, Wu Tang Clan, Rock The Bells, De La Soul, and the Black Eyed Peas.
East Coast, West Coast, Hawaiian style it doesn't matter for Gee Cee, his mission and purpose is universal; to uplift and inspire in the name of hip hop. Let the journey continue...
