Women's Monument to (25,000!) Anglo-Boer War Concentration Camp Victims (Bloemfontein, South Africa)
(Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa)
The first concentration camps were in ~1900 and almost exclusively White-on-White. Did you know that? Neither did I.
In Bloemfontein South Africa, just 20-30 years after their defeat/surrender in the Anglo-Boer War, the (mostly Dutch-derived, the first boat-full of them having arrived in 1652, ~250 years prior!) Afrikaner Boer (meaning farmer) people still living there set up this Women's Monument to remember the (mostly) women and kids who died of starvation, thirst and/or sickness in British-run concentration camps. (I s$%t you not!)
See the Boer fighters were organized into essentially-guerrilla commando militias. And they kept kicking the butts of the British who out-numbered and out-resourced them 10-to-1.
But while they were away out butt-kicking someplace, the wives were back on the farms taking care of things. So the British said screw this, and just burned/dynamited the farms, killed the livestock, and took the wives and kids hostage in these concentration camps.
This unplugged the Boer fighters provisions-wise, but that wasn't really the whole plan.
Taking the wives and kids hostage in this way, and passive-aggressively allowing them to die-off in bureaucratic fashion (Oh dang, we ran out of food for the prisoners again. --sound familiar?) not just humiliated the men emotionally and spiritually (worse than unbelievers, right?), but of course gave them dang good reasons to give up and surrender, and quickly, which they did.
You might just have to agree that genocide worked. But try not to think about it.
No wait. I mean: YES PLEASE DO try to think about it!
(And what if they'd thought of this when fighting General Washington and his people in the Revolutionary War, hmm?)
Petroglyph sites south of Kimberley, Orange Free State, South Africa
SOUTH AFRICAN ROCK ART - PART V
This video shows five petroglyph sites to the SW of Kimberley, South Africa. Rock art is very vulnerable and is often located in a sacred spot. These sites and many others in southern Africa are of great importance to the San People. Please protect and respect this site and never touch the rock art. All those rock art sites are on private land and it is obligatory to get permission from the landowners well in advance in order to visit those sites.
Thomas' Farm. Over 70 San and Khoe petroglyphs and a Rock Gong.
Disselfontein. Over 360 San and Khoe petroglyphs at five different locations overlooking the Orange River to the north.
Cristiaansdrift. Situated just north of the Riet River, close to Driekops Eiland, is a small hillock with about 300 petroglyphs made by the ancient San People, including some very ancient hair-line petroglyphs.
Driekops Eiland. Spectacular glaciated pavement in the Riet River covered with hundreds of geometric petroglyphs (and frequently inundated). These petroglyphs were made by Khoe herders and represent a newly identified southern African rock art tradition. There are a few naturalistic petroglyphs (biomorphs) but abstract motifs dominate the site. Do not walk on the pavement with your shoes on and even then avoid to step on the petroglyphs!
Vaalpan. Over 90 San and Khoe petroglyphs on a small hillock.
Klipfontein; a Petroglyph Site in South Africa
SOUTH AFRICAN ROCK ART - PART I
Klipfontein is probably the biggest petroglyph site in South Africa. It is on private land (a game reserve, used for hunting, and in-advance permission to visit the site is essential. For advice regarding a visit one could contact the McGregor Museum in Kimberley (address given in the video).

T-72M1Z Tiger at the South African Armour Museum Open Day 2015
A short video of the T-72M1Z preforming a mobility demonstration at the SA Armour Museums open day 2015.
This is one of the two T-72M1 purchased by South Africa from Poland for evaluation. The evaluation trials ‘Operation Carbenet’ took place between 5 March and 18 May 1990.
This vehicle is basically the Polish T-72M1 MBT fitted with the South African LIW (a Division of Denel) Tiger computerised fire-control system which enables stationary and moving targets to be engaged with a high probability of first round hit while the T-72M1Z is moving.
