Vaucluse is an eastern suburb of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located 8 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district, in the local government areas of Waverley Council and the Municipality of Woollahra. Vaucluse is located on the South Head peninsula, just south of The Gap with Sydney Harbour on the west and the Tasman Sea to the east. The Sydney Harbour side of the suburb commands views across the harbour to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The adjacent suburbs are Watsons Bay to the north and Rose Bay and Dover Heights to the south. Vaucluse is a mainly residential suburb. For many years it was the most affluent suburb in Sydney and, in terms of houses and properties, it is still in the top five most expensive suburbs. Tahiti, a Hawaiian-style residence in tropical gardens above Hermit Bay, set Australian residential record when it sold to a trio of South Africans for more than $29 million in September 2007. The Australian residential record was overtaken by Leon Kamenev, the founder of Menulog, purchasing 4 waterfront properties on prestigious Coolong Road for a combined $80 million in April 2016.

SYDNEY Coastal Walks- Watsons Bay & Coogee to Bondi

We spent a couple of days exploring 2 of Sydney's most beautiful coastal routes, soaking in the sea views!

Our first trip was to Watsons Bay and the South Head Heritage Trail which was a completely new area for me. It's got a stunning rugged coastline and you can see the Sydney skyline in the distance - such a beautiful place!

The second walk was the famous Sydney to Coogee coastal walk (apart from I did it the other way around, from Coogee to Bondi) which is definitely one of the best things to do in Sydney!

Watsons Bay is Australia's oldest fishing village and remains a thriving local inlet popular for its scenic locale and fresh seafood.

Overlooking a prime expanse of Sydney Harbour, Doyles on the Beach has long been a fine dining Sydney institution for those looking to experience fresh fish, lobsters, prawns and more.

For those wishing to settle into a longer afternoon of views, cocktails and the warm bustle of a friendly crowd, the Beach Club and the Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel provide great waterside venues.
One of the best ways to enjoy the harbour views around Watsons Bay is to take a coastal walk. There are two walking paths from Watsons Bay wharf – one which takes you north past Lady Bay Beach, which permits nude bathing, and then on to South Head where you can see the Hornby Lighthouse. The other walking path meanders south past The Gap, an ocean cliff facing the Tasman Sea, and then along past the Signal Station and Macquarie Lighthouse.

Steeped in history, Watsons Bay is home to several buildings that date back to the 19th Century. St Peter's Church on Old South Head Road is a tourist favourite, while on the same street there is also a Scout Hall and a former school residence designed by the prominent 19th century Sydney architect George Mansfield.

The southern coastal walk will also take you past the site where the full-rigged passenger ship, The Dunbar, was famously shipwrecked in 1857.

Watsons Bay is also only a short drive away from Sydney's iconic Bondi Beach. To visit Bondi after spending a day at Watsons Bay, simply travel south along Old South Head Road and then turn left onto Military Road (which changes to Campbell Parade) to enjoy the sights and sounds of Australia's most loved beach. The Line 380 bus travels along this route routinely.

The Gap is an ocean cliff on the South Head peninsula in eastern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The area, which faces the Tasman Sea, is located in the eastern suburb of Watsons Bay, in the Municipality of Woollahra, near South Head. Unfortunately, the Cliff attracts both visitors and suicides all the year round !!!!!!!

There are three routes to come to the Gap Lookout cliff :-

a) arrive at the Watsons Bay by ferry from the Circular Quay and walk for 5 mins towards the Military road;

b) arrive at the Watsons Bay by bus from the City of Sydney and The Gap will be across the Military road;

c) arrive at the Watsons Bay by bus from the Bondi beach and The Gap will be across the Military road.

Anyway, plan your itinerary carefully and always obey the local rules and regulations ????????????

Watson's Bay | MUST SEE DAY TRIP FROM SYDNEY

After exploring the city yesterday, today we made our way out to the coast to explore the beautiful Watson’s Bay. Just the 25 minute ferry ride from Circular Quay is almost reason enough for the trip with the awesome views of the city, harbor, and coastal towns.

We then reached our destination and immediately loved the vibe of Watson’s Bay. We started with a take away lunch from Doyle’s on the Wharf and enjoyed fish and chips overlooking the bay.

We made the short walk up to the Gap Park lookout and continued walking along the stunning coastline from there.

We finished our time at Watson’s Bay with another walk along the South Head Heritage trail before hopping on the ferry to head back to the city.

We absolutely loved our time at Watson’s Bay and would consider this to be a MUST SEE in Sydney

The second instalment of our Australia trip sees us head to Sydney's South eastern coast for a walk from Clovelly to Bondi. We then pay a visit to the Macquarie lighthouse before getting the ferry from Watsons Bay back to Circular Quay.
