Mao Zedong
Mao Zedong (1893-1976) was one of the historic figures of the twentieth century. A founder of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party), he played a major role in the establishment of the Red Army and the development of a defensible base area in Jiangxi province during the late 1920s and early 1930s. He consolidated his rule over the Party in the years after the Long March and directed overall strategy during the Sino-Japanese War and the civil war. He formally assumed the post of Party Chairman in 1945. His reliance on the peasantry (a major departure from prevailing Soviet doctrine) and dependence on guerrilla warfare in the revolution were essential to the Communist triumph in China.
Baotou Paotow
Ancient times
The area now known as Baotou was inhabited since ancient times by nomads, some of whose descendants would later be categorized as Mongols. Near the end of the Han Dynasty, Lü Bu, a particularly noteworthy warrior, was born in today's Jiuyuan District of Baotou.
Compared to the capital of Inner Mongolia, Hohhot, Baotou's construction as a city came relatively late, being incorporated as a town in 1809. The city's site was chosen because it was in an arable region of the Yellow River's Great Bend.
Nanhai Wetland is a national 4A-level scenic area in the southern suburbs of Donghe district, Baotou, connecting with the Yellow River to the south. It covers 1,664 hectares, with more than 200 wild animals and plants. Situated in the center of the Hohhot-Baotou-Erdos tourism circle, it combines tourism, ecology and science promotion.
It was an official waterway in ancient China, where Wang Zhaojun, famous for her beauty, went through Nanhai when she volunteered to marry a ruler of a Hun tribe in exchange for friendly relations with the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220).
There are three annual events for the wetland: the Yellow River carp festival, the Yellow River wetland festival and the ice and snow festival in Baotou.
Tourists can visit the Bibo pavilion or Nanhai fishing village, and feast on the fish banquet there. The picturesque scenery is attractive in every season, and nicknamed “the West Lake beyond the Great Wall”.
There are many thrilling activities, including parasailing, surfing, and diving. Tourists can also spend their leisure time in picnics, swimming, fishing and taking photos.
