Flight of the fruit bat to Zambia | DW English
It's the world's largest migration of mammals: every year 10 million fruit bats fly from Congo and elsewhere to a forest in Zambia's Kasanka National Park. It's a breathtaking spectacle. But the bats' habitat is under threat.

A WALK THROUGH THE VILLAGE IN MFUWE, ZAMBIA (Africa).MOV
I hope you all watch this video all the way through. It was a typical day walking down the one paved road through the village (Mfuwe, Zambia in Africa). Kids would run up from the village and follow us down the road asking questions and singing a song that was something about foreigners being there. I loved every minute of it. Also, watch for the older woman toward the beginning. I thought she was maybe a witch-doctor because she was a little scary looking. She points to her left eye, I think trying to tell me she was blind, then leans in making cat hands at me and growls! Crazy weird!!! We found out later that she was attacked by bees a while back and left for dead. Now she is blind in one eye and barely has a voice. She was still creepy!
The children would grab my hair and run their fingers through it over and over again. They had never felt soft hair before they said! LOL!
You get a good feel for what the village looks like and the huts in which most of the families live in. Enjoy the video clip! More to come!!!

Project Luangwa. Visit of Katapila Community School, Mfuwe, Zambia
Supporting Project Luangwa projectluangwa.org. Fundraising project for the Katapila Community School in Mfuwe, Zambia. We visited the school together with Karen and handed over the money we have collected. We decided that the money was spent on text books for Grade 7, which they urgently need, in order to progress further at the school. We also handed out very colourful pens for each pupils and the books as well as world atlases were on its way. Thank you so much everybody for your generous donations. You can see in the video how happy the kids were.

Donate Now to Help Power Sioma High School with Solar
When the students of Sioma High School go to school, they do so without the benefit of clean, dependable electricity. Because the school is too remote to connect to a public utility grid, it is at the mercy of rising diesel prices, unpredictable diesel deliveries and the noisy, polluting side efffects of diesel power.
Empowered by Light, with the help of partners and donors like you, will give the students of Sioma High School in rural Zambia something they could never achieve otherwise: a source of clean, renewable and uninterrupted power. For these children, power is knowledge.
Once we raise sufficient funds, our organization will install a ground-mounted solar panel and battery storage system on the campus of Sioma High School. We anticipate the system will pay for itself within six years.
Although this first project will be donor funded, our plan long-term is to create a sustainable model whereby Zambian schools can enjoy clean, renewable energy and save money on their energy bills, while providing a return on investment to funders of similar projects.
Empowered by Light has already distributed thousands of solar lighting kits to schools in western Zambia, and we see the Sioma Project as the next phase in our efforts to bring light to those left in darkness.
This is just the start, but we need your help to prove to transform Africa's energy future.
