Survival GILL NETTING (Usually ILLEGAL!) | Rare Underwater Footage
I test out the cheapest fishing survival gill net on Amazon in a private stocked pond. Originally, we tried to fish out all our trout, but this got to be quite the job since the fish shied away from worms, and lures (preferring pellet feed). As the season wore on, we decided to try to bowfish, spearfish and now, since it iced over, gill net the pond in effort to harvest all our stocked fish.
I will show you rare underwater video from a go pro of a fish actually being caught in the gill net. I will teach you exactly how to hang and use a gill net to catch fish and the size of the mesh you should use. Should you ever find yourself in a survival situation, a gill net is a huge asset. All our fish are provided by Lyndon Trout Hatcheries:
The aerator used in this video provided by The Dug Out Dude:
This gill net is super illegal in most areas, so please be careful using them. Even better, let me test out the gill net! If the nets are legal in your area, you might want to have one nearby in case you are in a survival situation. My Gear (Shop and Support):
I will use an ice auger to drill a channel right through the middle of the pond. Next, we put the gill net underwater. One end of the gill net has floats, the other sinkers, so the idea is to float the gill net in the water column and the fish will try to swim by and get caught in the net and twist all around getting more and more caught up.

Reading a river, where does gold deposit.
How to find the best gold deposits!
This video is part of a video series made for a high school gold mining and mineral prospecting course. I went out to a couple rivers to show where gold typically deposits on a river. Showing the inside of curves, behind rocks, high bank sluffs, high bank deposits, and pay streaks.

Wind Rivers Backpacking: Knapsack ColTitcomb BasinIsland LakePorcupine PassGreen River Lakes 4K
This is a video I made for a backpacking trip into Wyoming's Wind River Range, part of the Rocky Mountains and the Continental Divide. I did the trip in September, 2018, and it was a loop out of Green River Lakes, in the north east corner of the Winds. The route includes Vista Pass, Knapsack Col, Titcomb Basin, Island Lake, Upper and Lower Jean Lakes, Summit Lake, Elbow Lake, Palmer Lake, the Newfork River, and Porcupine Pass.
Amtrak Cascades, crosses, Nicomekl River, Dec 4th., 2018
Bridge, near Crescent Beach, British Columbia, Canada
The Amtrak Cascades is a passenger train route in the Pacific Northwest, operated by Amtrak in partnership with the U.S. states of Washington and Oregon and the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is named after the Cascade mountain range that the route parallels.
The corridor runs 157 miles (253 km) from Vancouver, British Columbia, south to Seattle, Washington, continuing 310 miles (500 km) south via Portland, Oregon, to Eugene, Oregon. No train travels the entire length of the 467-mile (752 km) corridor from Vancouver to Eugene.
Border Crossing Drive From Ontario Canada, Into U.S.A.
Driving I-75 (Interstate 75) over the Sault Ste Marie International Bridge from Ontario, Canada to the Border Crossing
Daytime Trip Into Canada here:
Sault Ste. Marie (/ˈsuː seɪnt məˈriː/ Soo Saint Marie) is a city on the St. Marys River in Ontario, Canada, close to the US-Canada border. It is the seat of the Algoma District and the third largest city in Northern Ontario, after Sudbury and Thunder Bay.
To the south, across the river, is the United States and the city of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. These two communities were one city until a new treaty after the War of 1812 established the border between Canada and the United States in this area at the St. Mary's River. In the 21st century, the two cities are joined by the International Bridge, which connects Interstate 75 on the Michigan side, and Huron Street (and former Ontario Secondary Highway 550B) on the Ontario side. Shipping traffic in the Great Lakes system bypasses the Saint Mary's Rapids via the American Soo Locks, the world's busiest canal in terms of tonnage that passes through it, while smaller recreational and tour boats use the Canadian Sault Ste. Marie Canal.
French colonists referred to the rapids on the river as Les Saults de Ste. Marie and the village name was derived from that. The rapids and cascades of the St. Mary's River descend more than 20 feet from the level of Lake Superior to the level of the lower lakes. Hundreds of years ago, this slowed shipping traffic, requiring an overland portage of boats and cargo from one lake to the other. The entire name translates to Saint Mary's Rapids or Saint Mary's Falls. The word sault is pronounced [so] in French, and /ˈsuː/ in the English pronunciation of the city name. Residents of the city are called Saultites.
Sault Ste. Marie is bordered to the east by the Rankin and Garden River First Nation reserves, and to the west by Prince Township. To the north, the city is bordered by an unincorporated portion of Algoma District, which includes the local services boards of Aweres, Batchawana Bay, Goulais and District, Peace Tree and Searchmont. The city's census agglomeration, including the townships of Laird, Prince and Macdonald, Meredith and Aberdeen Additional and the First Nations reserves of Garden River and Rankin, had a total population of 79,800 in 2011.
Native American settlements, mostly of Ojibwe-speaking peoples, existed here for more than 500 years. In the late 17th century, French Jesuit missionaries established a mission at the First Nations village. This was followed by development of a fur trading post and larger settlement, as traders, trappers and Native Americans were attracted to the community. It was considered one community and part of Canada until after the War of 1812 and settlement of the border between Canada and the US at the Ste. Mary's River. The US prohibited British traders from operating in its territory, and the areas separated by the river began to develop as two communities, both named Sault Ste. Marie

Visiting CAMPBELL RIVER, BC + Hiking in ELK FALLS | Vancouver Island, British Columbia
Come join us for another exciting travel day on Vancouver Island as we head north to Campbell River, BC to enjoy visiting the town before going hiking at Elk Falls.
After our stop at Miracle Beach, we hopped back in the car and continued our drive up to Campbell River, British Columbia. After a week of spotting black bears left, right and centre, we had a funny little incident where we thought a dog was one.
Once we got into town, we checked out some of the murals and browsed through antiques at the Trading Post, before heading down to the pier.
The Discovery Pier is Canada’s first saltwater fishing pier, so it’s a little piece of history. It looks out over the Discovery Passage and it’s a popular fishing spot. The pier stretches out 600 ft and is equipped with rod holders, bait stands, and fish cleaning tables. You can even rent fishing rods if you’re there between May and October.
That afternoon we continued to the Quinsam River Hatchery, because, have I already mentioned that Campbell River is the Salmon Capital of the World?! The hatchery has a visitor center with information about the hatchery program and the salmon life cycle, but really, I think most of us were there for a chance to spot a black bear fishing.
You can see pink adults in September, and chinook and coho adults in October and November. It’s open to visitors seven days a week from 8:00am to 3:30pm, and well worth the visit if you’re already in the area. From there, it was onwards to nearby Elk Falls.
One of the main draws to Elk Falls is the 25-metre waterfall that gives the park its name. There is a suspension bridge for those willing to brave the heights, as well as viewing decks.
And that’s pretty much a wrap for our day exploring Campbell River, BC and the surrounding area.
A special thanks to TROVER for making this trip possible.

Visiting CAMPBELL RIVER, BC + Hiking in ELK FALLS | Vancouver Island, British Columbia:
Come join us for an epic road trip to Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada where partner with Trover to cover the island from the south all the way up to the north. Unlike most Vancouver Island road trips and travel series which focus on the triangle of Vancouver, Nanaimo and Tofino, we branch off and visit lesser-known places such as Gold River, Port Alice and Malcolm Island just to name a few.
Our trip to Vancouver Island starts off with a flight from Toronto to Vancouver, followed by the shortest flight of our lives from Vancouver to Victoria. From Victoria, we head to our base of Mount Washington in the central part of the island, where highlights include spotting black bears, hiking in Mount Washington and visiting vineyards in Comox.
Our journey then continues to Gold River, Sam's hometown, where we board the Uchuck III en route to Friendly Cove. We also go to nearby Campbell River where we walk along a beautiful fishing dock, tour a hatchery and come across a black bear, and hike in Elk Falls which was our favourite hike on this entire journey.
Heading to northern Vancouver Island, we base ourselves in Port Alice and visit the nearby towns of Port McNeill, Port Hardy and Telegraph Cove. For separate day trips, we take the ferry to Malcolm Island where we visit the former Finnish Community of Sointula and take another ferry to Alert Bay where we have the opportunity to appreciate First Nations totem poles, artwork and museums.
Our Vancouver Island road trip concludes with visits to Parksville, Nanaimo and Victoria. Overall, it was one of the best road trips we've ever done focusing mostly on nature, outdoor adventure, wildlife spotting and visiting off-the-beaten-path villages and communities that have a lot to offer but aren't that well known.
If you are thinking of doing a Canada road trip, Vancouver Island should be at the top of your list. For more information and tips on all the places we visited on Vancouver Island, you can check out this Trover list:

Reflections By The River: EXPO '74

Backpacking The Greater Yellowstone: Thorofare Creek/Yellowstone River Headwaters Full Video
This is a 6 day backpacking trip we did in Wyoming this past September. The trip was in both the Washakie and Teton Wilderness, and the Absaroka Mountains, which make up part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. This area sits just outside the south east corner of Yellowstone National Park, and is one of the more remote areas in the lower 48 states. We did a loop from the South Fork of the Shoshone River, going up Ishawooa Creek to the pass, down Pass Creek, up Thorofare Creek, into both the north and south fork drainages of the Yellowstone River, over to Marston Pass, down some of the Buffalo Plateau, and then down Bliss Creek to the Shoshone River.
Some of the route was off trail. Some of the trails here don't show up in maps, and often times we used what I call outfitter trails, which are trails maintained by horse packers and hunting guides. There is a good variety of wildlife in this area, including grizzly bears, moose, bighorn sheep, elk, deer, black bears, and wolves. We saw a bunch of grizzly sign, but only one grizzly bear and one black bear. In past experiences I've seen numerous grizzly bears in this area and on exact parts of this route. We passed a wildfire which was kind of exciting. We also went during rifle hunting season for elk, which wasn't a great idea. We had been given wrong information about when rifle season started, otherwise we probably wouldn't have done this trip.

Sometimes life is just amazing - timing is everything.
The hike was long and rough, and I did a few things I don't usually do along the way, which made it possible for me to catch this beautiful moment. The rain started just five minutes before I reached my car, the rainbow appeared, then five minutes later it was gone.
Had I done anything differently during the hike, I would have missed it. And I'm so glad I didn't.
