???? RARE REPTILE REINTRODUCTION ????
As part of Marwell Wildlife’s conservation efforts to restore habitats and species, 80 juvenile sand lizards were recently reintroduced back into the wild at Eelmoor Marsh Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
The sand lizard, Britain’s rarest lizard, has disappeared from much of its range owing to habitat loss and fragmentation and is limited to only a handful of heathland and dune habitats in southern England, Wales and Merseyside.
At Eelmoor Marsh the project has now released 240 individuals, aiming to re-establish a sustainable population at this unique site near Farnborough. Over the last two decades Marwell has been working with the site owners, QinetiQ, to restore the heathland site to favourable condition status. As part of the reintroduction, Rachel Gardner, PhD student from Marwell Wildlife and the University of Southampton, has been leading detailed research to monitor the animals post release, evaluating their behaviour and survivorship, with the hope to inform and make recommendations for the reintroduction protocol in the future.
Marwell Wildlife, working with key partners including the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust and with support from Natural England, has contributed over 2000 animals for release in Southern England and hopes to continue conserving this important heathland species.

RARE EXOTIC DANGEROUS Orange Mamba found in UK
Managed to find this snake in the back garden while clearing out the greenhouse.
After an epic battle of 'cat and mouse' lasting a couple of hours I managed to capture the beast with just a few cuts and bruises, but thankfully no bite wounds.
It is now secure in a plastic tub for the time being. I managed to put two big rocks in the enclosure for it to hide under, and some soil and a few critters to partially satisfy the snake's carnivorous cravings.
I have been reliably informed that this snake is an Orange Mamba, the much lesser known but even more dangerous cousin of the greatly feared Black Mamba. It has been claimed by the same source that the Basilisk from Harry Potter was partially based on this magnificent yet deadly reptile.

New Forest Nature Quest (15 min) - Chris Packham in 1995 Wildlife in the UK - Archive Video
When Chris Packham put us forward to produce a programme specifically about wildlife in the UK for the new owners of the site at Ashurst in the New Forest in 1995, we were delighted to do it.
The programme was aimed at younger visitors and to promote New Forest Nature Quest as an innovative new visitor attraction.
Our cameraman Paul Cranston worked with a wildlife cameraman Andrew McClenaghan, to film many UK animals, some of which are only very rarely seen. Chris had great knowledge of the New Forest and took us to several secret places where we filmed badgers, hedgehogs, and even tracked down water vole. On the Nature Quest site itself we met a pine marten, stoats and wild boar.
It is very sad that New Forest Nature Quest was not a commercial success and closed not long after it opened, and was taken over by the Heap Family and is now the New Forest Wildlife Park newforestwildlifepark.co.uk but this superb programme survives as a reminder of a very innovative visitor attraction.
This is archive footage from our 30+ years in the video and audio production business and therefore quality of footage may reflect this.

Tour The RMS Queen Mary (Long Beach California Attractions): Look Who's Traveling
Visiting the RMS Queen Mary in Long Beach. Touring the ship with the captain (00:55), taking a look at the Diana: Legacy of a Princess exhibit (02:48), and visiting the Russian Submarine Scorpion (04:09).
RMS Queen Mary is a retired ocean liner that sailed primarily on the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard Line (known as Cunard-White Star Line when the vessel entered service). Built by John Brown & Company in Clydebank, Scotland, Queen Mary along with her running mate, RMS Queen Elizabeth, were built as part of Cunard's planned two-ship weekly express service between Southampton, Cherbourg, and New York City. The two ships were a British response to the superliners built by German and French companies in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Queen Mary was the flagship of the Cunard Line from May 1936 until October 1946 when she was replaced in that role by Queen Elizabeth.
Queen Mary sailed on her maiden voyage on 27 May 1936 and captured the Blue Riband in August of that year; she lost the title to SS Normandie in 1937 and recaptured it in 1938, holding it until 1952 when she was beaten by the new SS United States. With the outbreak of World War II, she was converted into a troopship and ferried Allied soldiers for the duration of the war.
Following the war Queen Mary was refitted for passenger service and along with Queen Elizabeth commenced the two-ship transatlantic passenger service for which the two ships were initially built. The two ships dominated the transatlantic passenger transportation market until the dawn of the jet age in the late 1950s. By the mid-1960s, Queen Mary was ageing and, though still among the most popular transatlantic liners, was operating at a loss.
After several years of decreased profits for Cunard Line, Queen Mary was officially retired from service in 1967. She left Southampton for the last time on 31 October 1967 and sailed to the port of Long Beach, California, United States, where she remains permanently moored. Much of the machinery, including one of the two engine rooms, three of the four propellers, and all of the boilers, were removed. The ship serves as a tourist attraction featuring restaurants, a museum, and a hotel. The ship is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has accepted the Queen Mary as part of the Historic Hotels of America.

BIGGEST SNAKE EVER ! GIANT SNAKE

Iguana - Iguana / Southampton Blues / Price Of Love
This video features the first three tracks taken from side 1 of this great LP.
The various images used within this video are taken from photos and scans of my original vinyl LP jacket/cover/labels, Iguana - Iguana on Lion Records LN-1011.
Not to be confused with American outfit of the same name, mysterious British band Iguana was formed in Southampton in early 1970s to release one excellent album and then disappear without a trace. The core of the band was guitarist/vocalist Bruce Roberts, bass-player John Cartwright and drummer Pete Hunt. The trio was augmented by strong dual brass-section -- Ron Taylor on alto sax and tambourine and ' Chris Gower on trombone. The solid presence of horns together with excellent songwriting is what makes Iguana's only offering truly unique.
Despite the album being released on the well-known Polydor label, it quickly became one of its most obscure items, since for some strange reason nobody was interested in the great blend of loud jazz-rock and energetic heavy rock stuffed with progressive elements.
The sound of Iguana is rich and colourful, based on permanent juxtapositions of heavy, some what funky guitar sound and jazzy saxophone riffs -- most of the songs are catchy and easy-to-get-into, in spite of their complex structures. Though most of the tracks are vocal-driven, there is enough space for adventurous instrumental excursions, the band achieves a perfect balance between song-oriented stuff and sophisticated progressive compositions (such is the longest piece on the LP, almost 9-minute Price of Love, reminding me of Colosseum, Mogul Thrash and other prominent brass rockers of the early 1970s). Actually Brainchild's Healing Of The Lunatic Owl would be the closest comparison to Iguana's debut, only Brainchild's work was closer to progressive realms, Iguana veers more towards pure rocking sound, making the accent on sheer frank intensity of the early British rock music.
Unable to get the recognition they deserved, the musicians of Iguana almost decided to call it quits, when they've got noticed by prominent songwriter Jess Roden (ex-Alan Bown Set, ex-Butts Band). The . whole Iguana line-up became Roden's backing band, touring with him for several years and helping him record several highly acclaimed LPs in the mid-1970s (including Keep Your Hat On). Although the collaboration with Roden might probably be lucrative for Iguana musicians, it must be pointed out that'.it ended their short career as independent songwriters. However, the sole Iguana LP from 1974 proves they could really do a talented, original and highly creative music. This is the first ever CD-reissue of this great lost album.
Ron Taylor - Alto-sax Tambourine
Bruce Roberts - Guitar & vocals
John Cartwright - Bass guitar & Finger Drums
Chris Gower - Trombone & Tambourine
Pete Hunt - Drums & Congas
