Worlds LONGEST pier! - Southend Pier & Railway
This is Southend-on-Sea, home of the longest pleasure pier in the world! The reason the pier was built was to enable boats to be able to dock at low tide. Southend has large mudflats so when the tide is out, it's not very deep for about a mile. The original pier was opened in 1830 and was made from wood. It was extended several times and by 1848, it was the longest pier in Europe at 1.3 miles (2.1 km). Because of increased visitors in the 1850s, a new pier was proposed and was made out of iron. This was opened in 1889 with an electric railway. By 1980, usage of the pier had declined and along with high maintenance costs, Southend Council proposed to close the pier permanently. This led to protests and the pier remained opened until funding for repairs was secured by 1983. The current railway is a 3ft narrow gauge line served by two diesel-hydraulic locomotives. One is named Sir WIlliam Heygate, the other Sir John Betjeman.

Southend on Sea is a sandy beautiful beach and southend pier is the important landmark in Southend on sea. In fact this is the longest pleasure pier in the world which is 2.16km Long. Visitors have an option if they want to walk the entire length or pay to ride the train to the end.
If you Interested , here is everything you can do it on southend-on-sea.
I will advise you to check sea tides heights on internet before visit to this beach in summer. Usually about 9am to 12am in summer season height of tides are pretty good for swimming into the southend on sea.

Unlike other UK beaches, Council constructs the special swimming area for kids and children on the beach which is surrendered by large rocks which is completely safe for younger children and for those who dont know how to swim.

Adventure Island is a free admission amusement park in Southend-on-sea Essex England. Old name of the park was Peter Pan Playground, later on peter Pan's Adventure Land before becoming Adventure Island. This small park has a decent selection of rides including AXIS, Archelon, Ramba Zamba, sky drop, Tidal wave blue, Dogem Car, Vortex and many many more.
