Aero-TV: A Detailed History - Scott Glover's Restored C-47
Scott Glover's N5106X: Another Of The Magnificent Planes And Pilots From 'The Last Time'
The Last Time was an organization created for the sole purpose of reuniting flying examples of the Douglas DC-3 and the people associated with them, for one last time. The goal of the organization was to celebrate this aircraft and these people. Twenty-six DC-3/C-47 aircraft converged at Rock Falls, Illinois for a weekend long celebration, while over 15,000 guests visited the airport to see these historic airplanes and meet their crews. It was a wonderful reunion where old friends met and new friendships developed. It is unlikely that such a gathering will ever occur again.
Scott Glover was one of the pilots and owners who made the sacrifice to get to Rock Falls. His C-47 has an extraordinary history... This aircraft was built as a C-47-DL sn 42-32832 and delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force on February 11, 1943. It was assigned to the 53rd Troop Carrier Squadron and on May 4, 1943 Secret orders were received: ...proceed in aircraft as indicated from Morrison Field, West Palm Beach, Florida via Marreckech, French Morocco, North Africa to Western Task Force, reporting upon arrival there to the Commanding General, North African Theater of Operations for duty and assignment. 42-32832 successfully dropped 18 Paratroopers on June 6, 1944 during the D-Day invasion with no casualties. But by June 6th, three of the paratroopers dropped were killed in action. 42-32832 is the only surviving C-47 from the original 13 that formed the 53rd Troop Carrier Squadron.
By July 16, 1945 this aircraft had made it back to the United States where it was assigned registration number NC75412 and converted to a DC-3C by the Executive Transport Corporation. After conversion the aircraft was sold to General Motors, Inc., in Detroit, Michigan, where it was assigned a new registration number, N5106. In May 1967, the aircraftft was re-registered as N5106X and during November 1967, it was donated to the Board of Trustees, Southern Illinois University, at Carbondale, Illinois who installed a 24-passenger configuration. The aircraft was sold to Henry Oliver III (Santa Fe, NM) in July 1985 and attended the EXPO 86 DC-3 fly-in at Abbotsford, Canada. Henry sold it to Bygon Aviation where it was flown on a 135 certificate for a short period of time. It was then sold to the David Nickolas Organ Donor Awareness Foundation Inc and operated by heart transplant recipient, Rodney DeBaun.
Glover bought the plane from Rodney on August 4, 2000 and built a grass strip and hanger for it (XS70) in Mt. Pleasant Texas. A second new engine has recently been installed and the airframe currently has just over 18,000 flight hours on the newly painted airframe.

First Nor'Easter Of The Season On The Way Weather News with J7409
First Nor'Easter Of The Season On The Way. Weather News with J7409.
Showers and embedded thunderstorms are expected across portions of the Southeast through tonight, with very limited severe risk possible with a stronger storm or two near the coast.. The greatest likelihood for a couple of sustained/rotating storms appears likely to remain over the northern Gulf. Given the presence of the low and quality of the northern Gulf boundary layer moisture, threat appears sufficient to warrant introduction of 2% tornado probability – with potential spreading eastward from Louisiana early, to portions of the coastal Florida Panhandle later in the period and into the overnight hours.
Showers and thunderstorms are gradually becoming better organized
in association with a broad area of low pressure located over the
central tropical Atlantic about 950 miles east-northeast of the
northern Leeward Islands. This low is expected to move northward
over the next couple of days into an area where upper-level winds
are forecast to be conducive for further development, and a tropical
or subtropical storm is likely to form on Friday or Saturday. After
that time, the system is forecast to turn westward well to the
north or northeast of the Lesser Antilles through early next week.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...60 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...high...80 percent.
With the synoptic pattern continues to favor an upper-level trough over
the eastern U.S., the stage is set for the first nor'easter of the season
to develop along the East Coast by Saturday. The frontal wave that has
been nearly stationary off the Texas coast for the past few days is being
energized by upper-level moisture originated from former Hurricane Willa
as well as a modest upper-level trough moving into the central/southern
Plains. Under this synoptic setup, the frontal wave will adopt a steady
eastward motion along the Gulf Coast through Friday while gradually
expanding in size. Showers and thunderstorms will be widespread across
the lower Mississippi Valley today, moving into much of the southern U.S.
on Friday ahead of the low pressure center together with increasing
northeasterly winds. By Friday night, much of the Mid-Atlantic into the
Appalachians will see rain, which could become heavy at times overnight as
the low pressure system begins to intensify more rapidly near the
Mid-Atlantic coast. Coastal sections from the Mid-Atlantic into southern
New England will likely see the strongest winds Friday night into Saturday
morning with weather conditions typical of a nor'easter. Conditions
should be much calmer in the interior sections but expect a general area
of rain to spread eastward from the Plains States today into the Ohio
Valley on Friday. On the other hand, interior New England should see
wintry precipitation develop Saturday morning as the low pressure system
approaches from the south.

McKellar Angus Ranch: Superior, Texas-Raised Angus Cattle
The McKellar family started in the registered cattle business in 1960 near Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Since then we have been involved in multiple breeds. In 2002, we decided as a family to focus solely on Black Angus genetics. Our initial purchase of 425 weaned heifers exclusively from Connealy Angus, between 2002 and 2005, formed the base of what our cow herd is today. These females were bred to breed leading A.I. sires, adapted very well to Northeast Texas and are very efficient mother cows even with the hotter, more humid climate. CSX Diesels Power Military Train West on BNSF - Ottumwa, IA 5/1/16
A great surprise came my way on May 1st, 2016. I'd already been out and about in Ottumwa, Iowa, filming Amtrak and then a northbound train on the Canadian Pacific. I heard the BNSF dispatcher address CSXT 7345, and that they'd be first out at the IC&E RRX (BNSF's diamond crossing with CP) once the CP train cleared. I'd just finished filming it and knew I only had a few minutes to get to the BNSF tracks before this train went through. So I chose a vantage point I'd never been to before, west of the BNSF/CP diamond near a private crossing off of Paris Avenue. As soon as I set up, the train came into view.
Having a CSX leader, I knew the train could be anything, most likely a mixed freight or even an empty coal train. Rounding the curve past the diamond, however, it became evident that this was no ordinary train. It turned out to consist of flatcars containing military vehicles of all shapes & sizes! I've heard of these trains coming through here before but never got any pictures of one, until now. You'll notice that most of the flatcars on the train carry the reporting mark DODX, which means these cars are owned by the United States Department of Defense, meaning this was probably an official military move of some sort. It was pretty cool to see!
This vantage point is very neat as well, so I'll be sure to return here for more video in the future. At the beginning of this video the train is sounding its horn for Green Street in downtown, over a mile away, followed by four more crossings before hitting the diamond and passing the camera. Long straight-a-way shots like this are pretty unusual to get, especially in towns, so I like it a lot!

Ghost Caught on Camera at USS Yorktown
It’s no secret that Charleston is one of South Carolina’s most haunted cities. This year the ETV production team decided to highlight a place with lots of claims of unexplained paranormal phenomena…the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point.
The USS Yorktown has a long history dating back to World War II. The ship was a safe haven for her crew and now is a symbol of freedom and liberty.
Our ETV crew decided to learn more about the ship and investigate the claims of ghostly events by spending the night on the ship with cameras rolling. What we didn’t expect was actually catching a ghost on camera.
Do you believe in ghost or do you think this is all just hocus-pocus? Let us know via Facebook and Twitter @palmettoscene.
A special thanks to the crew of the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point and USS Yorktown Ghost Tours.
