Mount Victoria, Wellington, New Zealand
Mount Victoria, Wellington, New Zealand
We walled along steep tracks up to the Mount Victoria summit. The Mount Victoria Lookout is a Wellington must-do.
The information below is from the website
Rising 196m above the city, the Mount Victoria Lookout is a Wellington must-do. Head to the lookout and be rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Wellington city and harbour, and beyond.
Located right next to the central business district, you can drive all the way up, or take a walkway through the bush-covered Town Belt.
From the top, enjoy the views of Tinakori Hill, the Hutt Valley and Eastern harbour bays, Matiu/Somes Island and the Miramar Peninsula. Beyond are Baring and Pencarrow Heads and further to the right, Wellington’s Southern suburbs and Mt Mathews, Wellington’s highest point to the East.
Take a picnic with you, settle in on the hillside and relax while watching ferries and cruise ships sail into the harbour and planes fly in and out of the airport. This is also one of the best spots in the city for taking in a sunrise or sunset.

360 degree of Wellington, New Zealand -- Mt Albert
360 degree view from the top of Mt Albert, taken on the highest point of the southern walkway, Wellington, New Zealand. Taken on Saturday, 10 March 2012 9:13 AM
Mangaone Walkway NZ south end
The southern end of this walkway just 15 minutes from Waikanae takes you through dense, cool forest. It's beautiful and contrary to other reports your feet can sty dry. All the little streams draining to the river have man made 'bridges' across them. The path is well maintained and an easy walk.
Wellington Railway Station, New Zealand
Wellington Railway Station, New Zealand
Wellington Railway Station is a beautiful heritage building and it opened in June 1937. The Railway station is located in the city central and is easy to access to most of the popular tourist spots, such as the Parliament buildings and the Wellington botanic garden. The New World supermarket is located inside the railway station.
On the first day in Wellington, we walked around the Railway station. We also walked along Fran Wilde Walkway to the Westpac Stadium which is the national stadium. The walkway started from the railway platforms, and is 650 meters long with gorgeous harbour views.
The information below is from Wikipedia,
Wellington railway station is the main railway station serving Wellington, New Zealand, and is the southern terminus of the North Island Main Trunk, Wairarapa Line and Johnsonville Line.
The station opened in June 1937 replacing the two previous Wellington termini, Lambton and Thorndon.

30 Tips for Backpacking in New Zealand ➜
-- About this video --
Today we are leaving Wellington and the North Island and heading to the South Island on the Cook Strait Ferry between Wellington and Picton! It’s time for the New Zealand ferry crossing!
We take an early morning sailing from Wellington with Interislander. We check into the Interislander Ferry, park up and start exploring the Interislander ferry for the New Zealand ferry crossing.
We choose one of the multiple viewing decks to watch Wellington turn into a tiny dot in the distance. Then we are on the Cook Strait – the body of water between the North Island and South Island.
After checking out The Bridge with Interislander – something you have to be invited to do (it’s not included in a ferry ticket) – we head back onto the viewing deck as we enter the stunning Marlborough Sounds as part of the ferry between Wellington and Picton.
This is the highlight of the Cook Strait Ferry between the North Island and South Island with some incredible views.
The North Island to South Island ferry arrives in Picton where we can officially say we have reached the South Island! We relax on the Picton Waterfront and enjoy the relaxed pace of life here in Picton.
So what do you think of the New Zealand ferry crossing? Would you take the ferry between Wellington and Picton?

Kaikoura, New Zealand
Kaikoura is widely known as the whale watching capital of New Zealand. Unfortunately they didn't want to be watched today!
After Matt finished taking photos of me for my website we headed into town via the sea front.
If youre a helicopter fan Kaikoura helicopters can take you up for a scenic flight along with some whale watching. Today the sea breeze was somewhat on the strong side for flying.
Form the railway over bridge all the way down the main street Kaikoura is lined with cafes and restaurants that will defiantly have crayfish on the menu. In english Kaikoura can be broken into Kai meaning food and koura meaning crayfish.
After lunch we headed back south towards Christchurch doing a little train spotting on the way. The main trunk line follows state highway one as it weaves around the coast.

The following information about Lake Rotorua is a copy from Wikipedia,
Lake Rotorua is the second largest lake in the North Island of New Zealand by surface area, and covers 79.8 km2.[1] With a mean depth of only 10 metres it is considerably smaller than nearby Lake Tarawera in terms of volume of water. It is located in the Bay of Plenty region. The city of Rotorua is sited on its southern shore, and the town of Ngongotaha is at the western edge of the lake.
Mokoia Island, close to the centre of the lake, is a rhyolite dome. It is probably New Zealand's best-known lake island, and is closely associated with one of the best-known Māori legends, that of Hinemoa and Tutanekai. Is said that Hinemoa swam across the lake to her lover Tutanekai who lived on Mokoia Island.
Owing to the geothermal activity around the lake (including still active geysers and hot mud pools), the lake has a high sulphur content. This gives the lake's waters an unusual yellowish-green hue.
