Welcome to Southport Market
Welcome to Southport Market, an innovative redevelopment of Southport's classic market hall. Set in the centre of Southport, the market is a fantastic opportunity to visit local food and non- food related businesses, alongside the businesses in the stylish and fashionable Lord Street and Chapel Street. The feel of the High Street is created once again with quality, choice and value readily available from knowledgeable and honest shopkeepers.

Southport is a large seaside town in Merseyside, England. Southport lies on the Irish Sea coast and is fringed to the north by the Ribble estuary. The town of Southport is 16.7 miles (26.9 km) north of Liverpool and 14.8 miles (23.8 km) southwest of Preston.
Historically part of Lancashire, the town of Southport was founded in 1792 when William Sutton, an innkeeper from Churchtown, built a bathing house at what now is the south end of Lord Street. At that time, the area, known as South Hawes, was sparsely populated and dominated by sand dunes. At the turn of the 19th century, the area became popular with tourists due to the easy access from the nearby Leeds and Liverpool Canal. The rapid growth of Southport largely coincided with the Industrial Revolution and the Victorian era. Town attractions include Southport Pier with its Southport Pier Tramway, the second longest seaside pleasure pier in the British Isles and Lord Street, an elegant tree-lined shopping street, once home of Napoleon III of France.
Extensive sand dunes stretch for several miles between Birkdale and Woodvale to the south of the town of Southport . The Ainsdale sand dunes have been designated as a national nature reserve and a Ramsar site. Local fauna include the Natterjack toad and the Sand lizard. The town of Southport contains examples of Victorian architecture and town planning, on Lord Street and elsewhere. A particular feature of the town of Southport is the extensive tree planting. This was one of the conditions required by the Hesketh family when they made land available for development in the 19th century. Hesketh Park at the northern end of the town is named after them, having been built on land donated by Rev. Charles Hesketh.
Southport today is still one of the most popular seaside resorts in the UK. It hosts various events, including an annual air show on and over the beach, and the largest independent flower show in the UK, in Victoria Park. The town is at the centre of England's Golf Coast and has hosted the Open Championship at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club.
Due to its position by the coast, Southport is a linear settlement and as such can only be approached in a limited number of directions by road. Due to the limited number of directions by road, many of the services operated in Southport are from one place South to one place North or East of Southport. Southport railway station has a frequent service of trains to Liverpool and a regular service to Wigan, Bolton, Manchester and Manchester Airport.

Royal Arcade Southport
One of Southport's most celebrated sights is Lord Street, a Victorian canopied boulevard edged in scenic gardens. With a charming, unique style all of its own, Lord Street has been a favourite shopping destination for over a century.
Speciality shops and designer boutiques are just a stones throw from the street’s picturesque and leafy gardens - the ideal place to unwind whilst still in the hub of the town. Right at Lord Street’s heart is Wayfarers Shopping Arcade, open since 1898. This Grade II listed building boasts a stunning glass-domed roof, impressive period décor and a range of over 30 exclusive stores. Their café and restaurant offer the perfect setting to soak up the Arcade’s atmosphere.
The Royal Arcade at the south end of Lord Street is the ideal place to continue the nostalgia. Brimming with antiques and collectables, bargain hunters can while away the hours seeking out extraordinary wares.

Family Day Out in Southport
Southport isn't far from us but it's a place we just haven't ventured out to much with the kids. We go to Formby beach near by a lot during the warmer months but we definitely been missing out. There is so much to do in Southport for a family day out both inside and outside. We had a few plans to see the train village, botanical gardens and have a lovely lunch out but we woke up to snow on the ground. A quick change in plans but we had the best day out in Southport despite the weather. Thank you Hickory's Smokehouse for having us for lunch. It's not just a restaurant it's a full entertainment day out in itself. They have a mini movie theatre with showtimes, greeted with fresh popcorn American movie style. The food is definitely a taste from home. What better persont to test it out than an American right here - Me! They even have a custard topping counter to dress your own desserts. We then went family bowling right down the road. What else was there to do on a snowy, cold Sunday. It was a fab day. Do check them out and check out our video. Don't forget to give us a thumbs up please!!!
