Sovanna Phum Shadow Theatre
Cambodian shadow theatre performance in Phnom Penh. Various dance styles were performed. The shadow puppets are made from leather and take several weeks to create. After the brutality of the 1970s in Cambodia it has taken a generation for theatre to be reintroduced in a humble way in a small shed in Phnom Penh.

Sovannaphum and the art of Shadow Puppetry
Sbek Thom, or Shadow Puppet Theatre, is a traditional form of Khmer performance art.
The Sovannaphum Arts Association is working to revive the art form among the youth in Phnom Penh.

Première partie d'un voyage de 5 mois en Asie du Sud-Est pour étudier le théâtre d'ombres.
Ici, le Cambodge. Deux mois passés au sein de l'association Sovanna Phum à Phnom Peng, capitale cambodgienne. J'y ai appris à construction, à manipuler les marionnettes d'ombres. Il y a également eu une création franco-khmère Germain's Stroy visible sur mon compte.
Cette vidéo fait partie d'une exposition créée en septembre 2008 par la compagnie Jeux de Vilains.

The Wat Bo Sbaek Thom troupe is one of only four remaining troupes of Cambodia that still performs the centuries-old Large Shadow Puppet Theatre. By next year, we hope to reintroduce regular performances in Siem Reap.
