Sparrow Hills were called the Lenin Hills from 1935 -1999. They are situated on the right bank of the Moskva River and one of highest points in Moscow with an altitude up to 220 m above the river level. The Embassy of the 'People's Republic' of China in Russia, the largest foreign diplomatic compound in the world, is situated not too far from Sparrow Hills.
The observation platform, which gives a good panoramic view of the city, is situated on a steep bank 85 m above the river. The Luzhniki Stadium (formerly, the Lenin Stadium), where the opening and closing ceremony for the 1980 Summer Olympics took place, is right below across the Moskva River. Next to it is the Novodevichy Convent, with its Naryshkin Baroque towers.
Not far from the observation platform is the famous Luzhniki Metro Bridge (known to Muscovites as Metromost). The two-level Metro-Bridge traverses the river to link Komsomolsky Prospekt with Vernadsky Prospekt. It serves two urban transport systems: motor vehicles and the Moscow Metro (subway). The glass-walled subway station Vorobyovy Gory (translates as Sparrows' Hills) is located at the lower level of the bridge.
The hills, immortalized by many Russian poets and writers, are thought to have been named after the village Vorobyovo which was acquired by Grand Duchess Sophia Vitovtovna (Vitovt's only daughter) from the priest Vorobey (Sparrow) in 1451. Alexander I of Russia wished to build the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour there; his successor had construction works suspended and the cathedral was eventually erected in the proximity of the Kremlin. Nowadays the main landmarks of the hills are the Moscow State University (formerly the tallest building in Europe) and the Trinity Church (1811).

Novodevichy Convent and Sparrow Hills Observation Deck in Moscow, Russia
Thanks for joining another video of our trip to Moscow, the massive and historic capital of the Russian Federation - or, more commonly, simply Russia!
This video is a compilation of clips - first, several from Novodevichy Convent just outside the city center and right near the Sportivnaya Metro stop. The cloister was originally founded in 1524 - the same time frame from which the main cathedral, Cathedral of our Lady in Smolensk, dates from. The history of the convent is quite interesting and worth researching - and certainly worth visiting as it is hauntingly beautiful!
Afterward we head further south on the Metro using the 1 line (red on the map), we stop at Vorobyovy Gory which translates to Sparrow Hills! Here there is a nice promenade area along the Moskva River, but the main site is after a roughly 30 minute walk up the hill to the observation deck - this area provides a nice view of the entire city, and just behind you sits the imposing Moscow State University.
Hope you enjoy the video!

Sparrow Hills Moscow 2017
This video is officially a late post, but me and Fania @faniarosell would like to show you The Sparrow Hills (Воробьевы Горы) a park near our campus, which has mini zoo, cycling track, bridges, and many beautiful spots. For me, this is the first time using my camera under 0 degrees celsius. I realised then, or precisely, prove that cold is killing the battery faster then expected. That's why, I could not take many shoot when we were at Victory Park (Парк Победы) and see the museum which was very cool. Anyway, thank you for watching!

SEE MY FACEBOOK HISTORY GROUP :
Vorobyovy Gory (Sparrow Hills) is a station on the Sokolnicheskaya Line of the Moscow Metro. Its name originates from a nearby elevated area called the Sparrow Hills.
Built into the lower level of a bridge, it is unique in the city and in the world. At 270 m in length, the platform is the longest in the system as the station needed to be accessible from both sides of the river. It is also the highest station above ground level at 15 m, though this is less remarkable since all but a handful of Metro stations are underground. Apart from its dimensions, Vorobyovy Gory is also notable in being the only Metro station with windows.
The bridge, which is known as the Luzhniki Metro Bridge, or simply Metromost, and spans the Moskva River, was originally built in 1958. The architects for the project were M.P. Bubnov, A.S. Markelov, M.F. Markovsky, A.K. Ryzhkov, and B.I. Tkhor. However, by 1984 the bridge, plagued by corrosion, had fallen into disrepair and was deemed structurally unsound, so Vorobyovy Gory (at the time called Leninskiye Gory) was temporarily closed for repairs and trains were rerouted to temporary bridges alongside. Eighteen years later, 14 December 2002, the newly renovated and renamed station was opened to the public once again.
