GAYSAUNA NIEUWEZIJDS KOMT OP STOOM
Op 6 december 2013 gaat de nieuwe gaysauna Nieuwezijds in Amsterdam open.
Enkele dagen voor deze opening mocht ik een bezoek brengen aan het badhuis.
Richard Keldoules doet zijn verhaal.
Eerder schreef ik voor AmsterdamFM de volgende bijdrage over Sauna Nieuwezijds.
In de Nieuwezijds Armsteeg komt Sauna Nieuwezijds op stoom. In het voormalige gokpaleis in deze steeg, is een moderne sauna ingericht. AmsterdamFM mocht een kijkje nemen en sprak een van de uitbaters, Richard Keldoules .
Volgens Keldoules werd het de hoogste tijd dat er een nieuwe gaysauna in Amsterdam bij kwam.
In het homofobe Rusland heeft Moskou maar liefst 6 gaysauna's (...). Keulen en Brussel hebben er ook diverse.
Maar ook in Singapore, waar homoseksualiteit nog illegaal is, zijn meerdere badhuizen.
Amsterdam kan met alleen Thermos, van enige omvang, niet achter blijven volgens Keldoules.
Het blijkt uit reacties dat mensen zitten te wachten op iets nieuws!
MODERN STRAK
Het interieur is getekend door architect Ad Bogerman, in nauw overleg met (Richards zakenpartner en man) Elard Diekman, die volgens Keldoules ook een goede kijk op interieurs heeft. Verder hebben de initiatiefnemers zelf ook de nodige sauna ervaring opgedaan in diverse wereldsteden. Met die kennis is dit resultaat neergezet.
Voor de strakke huisstijl tekenen de Gebroeders Silvestri. Zij zijn ook verantwoordelijk voor de vormgeving van Club Church.
WET EN REGELGEVING
Ook van de kant van de Gemeente Amsterdam heeft men alle medewerking gekregen. Omdat de sauna geen seksinrichting is was het verstrekken van een (bouw)vergunning geen probleem.
WACHTRUIMTE CS
De nieuwe 'badinrichting' richt zich op een jonger publiek. Mensen die met name in het weekend laat in clubs uit gaan in het Centrum van de stad en na uit gedanst te zijn nog lekker willen na relaxen in een frisse omgeving. Richard: We zitten vlak bij het station (CS). Dus als je een paar uur moet wachten op je trein kan je bij ons lekker warm binnen zitten (...).
VROUWEN
Op de vraag of zij net als in hun Club Church aan de Kerkstraat, op enkele momenten toegang voor vrouwen mogelijk maken, zegt Keldoules: De bedoeling is, inderdaad eens per maand, op zaterdagmiddag iedereen toe te laten, ook vrouwen.
Het is eigenlijk leuk, het veranderd de sfeer. Je wil een plek zijn waar het allemaal vrij is (...).
PROEFSTOMEN
Maar eerst gaat men een heel weekend proefstomen. Het personeel moet ook weten hoe het gaat werken en daarom zal men het eerste weekend voor slecht 2 euro entree vragen. Het zogenaamde try out weekend begint vrijdag 6 december om 12 uur.
