Madagascar - Tale of Two Hotels
The Ankarana Special Reserve (wildlife area, with unique animals) is in a remote area of northern Madagascar, where there are few signs of civilization. The first half of this video regards my stay at Relais de l'Ankarana, a fancy name for a 5-room building (managed by a woman who cooked all the meals, while tending to her diapered baby and a group of chickens that roamed the property) which got water from a water well next to my room, and had no electricity (a generator provided four hours of electricity in the evening), and (of course) no link to the outside world. After three days of this, I next stayed (for three days) at the Ravintsara Wellness Hotel, the premier hotel on Nosy Be, a paradise island off the coast of northwest Madigascar. I had the best room on the property, right on the water, as the video reveals. The two hotels had one thing in common - they were both worlds better that the locals ever dream of living.
