Step into this 300-year-old royal hammam for warmth
Bhopal’s 300-year-old traditional Turkish public bathhouse called the Hammam-e-Kadami has been active since the time of the Nawabs. Constructed in the early 18th century, it was built in style of the Cemberlitas Hammams of Istanbul. This is the only hammam that is still functioning in the entire Indian sub-continent. Hammam literally translates to ‘spreader of warmth’ in Arabic. These steam bathhouses originated in Central Asia, where people came together to bathe, relax, socialize and, at times, take part in rituals.

21. Water-health complex “Arasan”
The most visited place for the towns people of the Middle Ages in the east were the bath and the mosque. In accordance with the canons of Islam, the believers can pray only after making an ablutions ritual.
There were many baths with the temperature, humidity and dryness of the air in different rooms regulated by a complex system of heating pipes, ventilation shafts, and compartments heaters and coolers in the cities along the Silk Way route. The only bath retained by today is one in Turkestan. The health complex Arasan has been built in accordance with design of that ancient bath and it reflects the ancient bathing tradition.
There is a majestic, six-domed building of Arasan Wellness & SPA on 78, Tulebayev Street. It is an architectural monument and it is protected by the state. It is decorated in the national style. It has complete infrastructure for having rest in its 12 pavilions. In the 1980s and 90s, The Wonderful World of Water excursions were extremely popular. During that time Arasan was considered to be a must-visit place of Almaty and was compared with Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow in terms of popularity for city guests. The building was built in 1982 as an idea enforced by Dinmukhamed Akhmetovich Kunaev, the leader of the Soviet Kazakhstan. Authors of the project were the architects V.T. Hwan, M. K. Ospanov, designers V.V. Chichelov, and K.V. Tolebaev
