Located on the most central location of Nicaragua, only 10 km north of Granada and 8km west of Masaya, with the view on a pristine gorgeous Crater lake, is situated the eco luxury Apoyo Resort the most unique Nature Spa resort in Central America.
Unique is that our eco resort is located in the middle of the Laguna Apoyo Natural Reserve , it is their where we are the Guests of the white face and Howler monkeys that live in this Tropical Dry Forest Eco System surrounding our resort. The Reserve is managed by the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (MARENA) and it is unique that we have our resort in the middle of this Reserve but it means also that we took high responsibility to live in symbioses with nature in and around our Eco Nature Resort.
The unique mineral waters of our crater lake are used for special SPA treatments, including the mineral clays and both are knows as very beneficial for body and facial treatments. We have highly specialized and international well trained local Spa staff, they will let you make a choice of our Spa Menu to give you an excellent and unique Spa experience.
The Crater lake and the dry forest have unique animals you will find nowhere else ( link to special page with nature info, taken from Wikipedia), 500 species of plants and tropical dry trees, over 200 species of birds have been documented in the reserve and 220 species of butterflies and there are many reptiles and mammals, like Pacas, Squirrels, Opposums and wild cats like Jaguarund etc.
Nicaragua initiated many years ago protection laws for unique natural areas and the Lagua de Apoyo is one of them and so rare, you will not find a comparable resort in Latin America.
Our resort works in full cooperation with Marena that is responsible for all natural reserves in Nicaragua and we have special tours in and around the villa you stay.
Our luxury eco resort has now a new menu with many vegetarian dishes, you will love it and for reasonable prices. Enjoy from the restaurant the unique view on the lake and pool side and see the Caracara Cheryways sailing over the hillside and lake. Sit in front of your villa or room and see the Tucan, Urraca, Mono Congo the many different butterflies and what else can pass the villa you stay.
Our Apoyo Eco Wellness Resort is a place to relax, to reconnect with nature, with yourself, with your loved ones, our YOGA retreats will support you with that and you can call when we have these Yoga or Reiki retreats where you can learn to relax and give your body and soul prime time.

Catarina is a village of the municipality of Masaya, lies 4 miles from the city of Masaya, and only 30 miles from Managua it is accessible by car. Located in what is called the Plateau of the Villages and belongs to the tourist corridor, rich in handicrafts and called Los Pueblos Blancos. (The White Villages)
By the side of the Park enjoying the breeze coming from the lagoon you have restaurants with traditional local and foreign fast food, small souvenir, clothing, and footwear shops.
The people of Catarina are friendly, polite and very industrious; the village's economy is based on traditional harvesting, cultivating flowers and plants of all species, caring for a few heads of cattle or pigs, and horse breeding. Currently they have found other ways of making a living selling crafts made in the neighboring municipality of San Juan de Oriente.
The main attraction of Catarina is the Parque El Mirador (The Viewpoint Park) from where it is possible to observe one more of the beautiful sceneries of Nicaragua. A panoramic view of the Laguna de Apoyo, (Apoyo Lagoon), and at distance El Charco de Tisma, (Puddle of Tisma) the Great Lake of Nicaragua, the city of Granada, and the Mombacho Volcano just to mention the most interesting.
In all places of Nicaragua you will live a new experience and Catarina is no exception; one of the best I recommend.

Nicaragua: Laguna De Apoyo swimming in a volcano
Swimming, dogs fishing, monkeys, and front flips is how we would describe this video. This is technically our second day of the trip and our first full day in Nicaragua. We woke up to all of Laguna De Apoyos beauty. Videos and pictures do not do this lake justice. The lake and surrounding mountains are a beautiful sight, and the water is amazing to swim in. Laguna De Apoyo was a little off the beaten path, but is worth the trip. Even though Laguna De Apoyo is relatively remote there is plenty to see and do close by. The paradiso hostel we stayed at offers a great beach with amazing swimming, kayaking, tubing, and much more. You will most likely catch a glimpse of monkeys in the area too.
