Avithos beach, Kefalonia - Greek island
Avithos is a quite beautiful beach with crystalline waters located 12km southwest of Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia and very close to the village of Svoronata. The beach consists of reddish sand and an impressive mountain backdrop. Surrounded by verdant vegetation and nice facilities, Avithos makes the ideal environment for children offering many games in the sand and in the shallow waters. A couple of nice taverns are found in close distance from the beach offering delicious meals from the local cuisine. The beach of Avithos offers great views to the tiny islet of Dias and the small church that stands on top. It is a really nice beach and definitely among the best in the south coast of Kefalonia.

Kourkoumelata, just 10 km from Argostoli on Kefalonia, is a picturesque village with breathtaking views of the sea. It is most famous for its history: when the entire town was destroyed in the earthquake of 1953, shipowner and resident, Giorgos Vergotis, rebuilt the entire village for all inhabitants in the traditional neoclassical architecture. It was one of the first villages on the island to regain electricity after the earthquake because of Vergotis' initiative. Today, the villagers take great pride in their homes and their beautiful gardens are the main attraction.

Kefalónia a Jón-szigetek legnagyobb tagja. Magas hegyláncok, tágas öblök, zöld, buján tenyésző vegetáció jellemzi a szigetet.
A már Homérosz által az Odüsszeiaban is megénekelt, a modern korban pedig a Corelli kapitány mandolinja című film forgatási helyszíneként ismert Kefalónia a türkizkék Jón-tenger szigetvilágának igazi gyöngyszeme és legnagyobb szigete. Érintetlen vadregényes tájai, zöldellő erdői, meredek sziklafalai és változatos tengerpartjai minden látogatót elvarázsolnak.
A sziget legmagasabb pontja az 1628 méter magas Aenos hegycsúcs és környéke Görögország tíz védett nemzeti parkjának egyike, az egyedülálló geológia jelenség a Kathavothres víznyelő és a lélegzetelállító Melissani tavas barlang, az akusztikájáról híres Drogarati cseppkőbarlang is részei a sziget természeti kincseinek.
A világ legszebbjei közé beválasztott Myrtos-öböl Kefalónia legismertebb strandja, de igazi különlegesség a vörös homokos Xi part, a meredek sziklafal alatti Platia Ammos Beach, illetve az erdővel borított hegyoldallal körülvett fehér kavicsos Antisamos is. A vízi sportok szerelmeseinek a homokos Makris Gialos partszakaszt ajánljuk.
A kirándulni vágyók ellátogathatnak az Odüsszeusz szigeteként ismert szomszédos Ithakára is.

Lourdas is on the southern coast of Kefalonia, just over 15 km from Argostoli. The beach is a long, sandy beach, organized with umbrellas and chairs. The mountain behind the beach, Mount Aenos, is bursting with lush, green vegetation and compliments the beach and blue water perfectly. Near the beach is the village, also called Lourdas. The village has taverns, cafes, and small shops and is a great stop for lunch after the beach. Also nearby is the Monastery of Sissia.
