The Nightmare World of Gang Stalking
More than 10,000 people worldwide claim they're the victims of a vast organized surveillance effort designed to ruin their lives, a phenomenon known as gang stalking. Mental health experts see gang stalking as a symptom of paranoia, but the self-identified victims who insist what they're experiencing is real have come together online and in support groups to share their stories.
VICE met up with a handful of Americans who claim their lives have been derailed by gang stalking to understand what serious consequences the phenomenon presents. Then we hear from Dr. Josh Bazell, one of many physicians who believes the victims of gang stalking are experiencing dangerous delusions that could be treated by mental health professionals.

SUMMARY
=======
Albany ( (listen) ALL-bə-nee) is the capital of the U.S. state of New York and the seat of Albany County. Albany is located on the west bank of the Hudson River approximately 10 miles (16 km) south of its confluence with the Mohawk River and approximately 150 miles (240 km) north of New York City.
Albany is known for its rich history, commerce, culture, architecture, and institutions of higher education. Albany constitutes the economic and cultural core of the Capital District of New York State, which comprises the Albany-Schenectady-Troy, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area, including the nearby cities and suburbs of Troy, Schenectady, and Saratoga Springs. With a 2013 Census-estimated population of 1.1 million the Capital District is the third-most populous metropolitan region in the state. As of the 2010 census, the population of Albany was 97,856.
The area that later became Albany was settled by Dutch colonists who in 1614, built Fort Nassau for fur trading and, in 1624, built Fort Orange. In 1664, the English took over the Dutch settlements, renaming the city as Albany, in honor of the then Duke of Albany, the future James II of England and James VII of Scotland. The city was officially chartered in 1686 under English rule. It became the capital of New York in 1797 following formation of the United States. Albany is one of the oldest surviving settlements of the original British thirteen colonies, and is the longest continuously chartered city in the United States.During the late 18th century and throughout most of the 19th, Albany was a center of trade and transportation. The city lies toward the north end of the navigable Hudson River, was the original eastern terminus of the Erie Canal connecting to the Great Lakes, and was home to some of the earliest railroad systems in the world. In the 1920s, a powerful political machine controlled by the Democratic Party arose in Albany. In the latter part of the 20th century, Albany experienced a decline in its population due to urban sprawl and suburbanization; however, the New York State Legislature approved a $234 million building and renovation plan for the City in the 1990s that spurred renovation and building projects around the downtown area. In the early 21st century, Albany has experienced growth in the high-technology industry, with great strides in the nanotechnology sector.

James Brown performs and dances to Night Train to a live audience on TAMI Show.
James Brown recorded Night Train with his band in 1961. His performance replaced the original lyrics of the song with a shouted list of cities on his East Coast touring itinerary. The song became a hit, charting #5 R&B and #35 Pop.
The TAMI Show is a 1964 concert that included performances by numerous popular rock and roll and R&B musicians from the United States and England. TAMI stood for both Teenage Awards Music International and Teen Age Music International.
The concert was held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on October 28 and 29, 1964. Free tickets were distributed to local high school students. The best footage from each of the two concert dates was edited into the film, which was released on December 29, 1964. The TAMI Show is particularly well known for James Brown's performance featuring his legendary dance moves and explosive energy.
Video transcript:
I want, I want. A night train. Got it good. I got it good. I got it good. Let me be. What are we going to do now. Baltimore, Maryland, Philadelphia, New York City. Take it home. New Orleans. The home of the blues. One more time for the night train. Are you ready for the night train? Are you ready for the night train? Are you ready for the night train? Are you ready for the night train? Night, night, night, night, night, night, night, night. One more time for the night train. Are you ready for the night train? Night, night, night, night, night, night, train.

Towards a visible city for visually impaired users
Dr Robert White
This webcast (based on the PhD findings of Dr Robert White, University of Strathclyde) presents a snapshot of the barriers inherent to the design of urban environments for individuals with different types and degree of visual field loss. According to the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB), there are an estimated 2.3 million visually impaired people living in the United Kingdom. This figure is expected to increase to 4 million by 2030, due to the effects of an ageing population and the obesity epidemic.
It is therefore essential to invest in the design of safe, accessible and sustainable environments, which are sympathetic to the needs of the visually impaired user. The urban landscape in its current state resembles an obstacle course. This results from a lack of mandatory regulations available to designers and planners, which specifically address the navigational needs of the visually impaired pedestrian beyond the curtilage of a building.
This work embarks from the hypothesis that commonalities exist in the manner in which individuals with different types and degree of visual field loss experience barriers in the built environment. Furthermore, it is hypothesised that the nature of these commonalities can be measured and incorporated into the -- presently insufficient -- building regulations. The question that arises is: How can design regulations integrate the specifications to collectively accommodate the varying needs of different visual impairments for seamless navigation in urban streetscapes?
This question is explored through a nationwide survey targeted at visually impaired users of the built environment. The survey is followed by an access audit, which aims to quantify the number and type of hazards present within a typical city centre. The research is complemented by a series of user-based navigational experiments, which situate the problem through comparison of experiences between visually impaired and fully sighted cases.
The collected data have been used to inform the creation of an evaluation tool, which measures both the adequacy of mandatory regulations and the degree that best practice guidelines are embraced by local authorities. When applied to the audited city centre, the tool reveals deficiencies in both the content of the regulations and in the adoption of the guidelines. Enhanced guidelines are presented that incorporate the findings of the research results.
The overall conclusion is that visually impaired people are not disabled by personal factors but by the design and physical influence of features within the built environment. The research contributes to an understanding that designing urban environments should be less about architectural fashion trends and more about creating practical spaces that cater for the needs of all users.
