Learn about the antiquity of beer in Babylonian times, through to the introduction of beer in New Zealand and then the history of Speight's Brewery, before entering the brewery itself to learn about our unique brewing process.
No tour would be complete without sampling the fine product. Welcome to our brewery bar where you can pour your own and you will enjoy an appreciation session of six Speight's beers.

This Tour was conducted prior to Lion New Zealand spending $40 million redeveloping the Speight's brewery, completed in early 2014, a large investment in the future of the Pride of the South.
A trip to Dunedin is not complete until you have visited Dunedin's Speight's Brewery, where tastings, tours and dinning are held daily.
They upgraded the whole brewing capacity and plant, with safety improvements and seismic strengthening which took 18-months, it has a brewing capacity of more than 24 million liters a year. About 51 million pints of beer. The old part of the brewery has been maintained as a museum and is a really good illustrative part of the history of Speight's and the way beer was made previously
The Speight's brewery is a popular tourist attraction. And the 30,000 visitors each year will still get to see the old copper kettles of the former brewhouse.
Speight's Brewery, Since 1876, has been proudly producing Speight's legendary ales from the same site in Rattray St and continues to produce the good stuff to this day.
Tours here provide an insight into the history and workings of the brewery, the origins of Speight's, the difficulties the brewery has overcome and its rise to become one of the leaders in its field. The tour concludes at the tasting room, an ideal way to finish and the late tour Alehouse Dinner Package(recommended) with longer tastings and dinner - includes the Speight's tour and two course dinner in the Restaurant Ale House down on the street, is an excellent price, make sure to buy your T-Shirt and other souvenirs while your there.
The way it's brewed may have changed since 1867, but fans of the beer are happy it still tastes just the same.
Speight's is the country's number one beer, but the Dunedin brewery also produces other brands, including Mac's and Steinlager.

The beer business is complicated. Brewing is even more tricky. You can be a lover of beer and hate everything that comes with the industry. It is tricky not only due to the way it is done but because of the players, grandstanding, dress-ups, technologies, regulations, taxations, ingredients, branding, tariffs and more.
Amongst all this complexity of what should be a relatively simple matter - like baking bread - we are sincerely thankful for someone that can obscure it all, and deliver to us a simple, failure proof way, we too can take charge of our beer.
What we've learned now, thanks to our visit to Speights, is that not only does WilliamsWarn liberate us and our beer by making it simple and easy to make our own beer, it also sends us goodness from home, extracted in a can of malt. What an ingenious way to do it!

Speight's Beer -- Mojo, Auckland
Responding to the letter from a Kiwi in London saying he missed Speight's beer, the brewery built a fully-working pub, loaded it on board a ship and sailed it across to London so he, and other expats in the UK, could get a pint of their favourite brew.
A blog attracted many thousands of visitors as the boat sailed from Dunedin to London, and PR at both ends helped Speights recapture its place as NZ's No.1 beer.
Speight's Shuttle
Another short film created for the Mothra Film Festival in Dunedin, New Zealand in 2005. The latest scientific minds come together to create a space shuttle operated on nothing by Speight's beer. Nominated for the best special effects award Filmed segments of it and helped with some of the post production work for creator/editor/director Jez Brown.
