#NSLighthouseProject: The 'River, Port & Island' Lighthouses, Nova Scotia, Canada via DJI drone
Filmed between Autumn 2015 & Winter 2016 during trips to Cumberland County, experience the landscape and lighthouses at Apple River, Port Greville and Spencer's Island.
The present Apple River Lighthouse dates from 1968, Two new keeper's dwellings were also provided for the keepers, and the old lighthouse and a dwelling were pushed over the bank and burned. However, after the fog signal was discontinued, the one-story building was torn down, leaving just the 10.5-meter tower, which has had its lantern room removed.
Port Greville Lighthouse was built in 1907. Known for shipbuilding, inflation in 1972 brought an end to this industry in Port Greville. Hopes were for shipbuilding to return after inflation, but the Groundhog Day gale of 1976 destroyed the shipyard. With shipbuilding gone, the Coast Guard deactivated the light, sawed it in half, trucked it to Sydney and displayed it at their college. But in 1998, the Coast Guard agreed to turn back the lighthouse for display at the Age of Sail Heritage Centre & Museum; it was thus cut in half again & trucked back to its home town of Port Greville.
Built in 1904, Spencer's Island Lighthouse was discontinued in 1987. However, a two-year effort resulted in the Spencer's Island Community Association acquiring the lighthouse from the government. In 2006, after major restorative work (thanks to local fundraising efforts), the light was reactivated in the tower.

Isle Haute Trip
We started at West Advocate, took the tour around Isle Haute by zodiac, went across to Cape Chignecto, and along to Advocate Harbour, and then to Cape d'Or where we saw the lighthouse from the water. We enjoyed the trip and recommend it to others.

Bay Of Fundy Tides and a Sunrise At Old Shipyard Beach, Nova Scotia
Time lapse video clips taken on the shore of the Bay of Fundy at the Old Shipyard Beach Campground at Spencer's Island, Nova Scotia. The campground is located southwest of Amherst, NS and northwest of Truro, NS on a triangle of land sticking out into the Bay of Fundy.
The first half of the video shows the tide going out from high tide. Although quite dramatic, this is only about half the tide! Battery issues, time restraints and darkness kept me from videoing the full tide. The video was taken from our campsite. Note the awesome, fast diaper change by my wife on the beach! And, note the great cloud movement on the horizon.
The second half was taken the next morning, showing the sun rise over Fundy. The tide was once again on its way out after coming back high at around 3am.
This is a great campground for experiencing the largest tides in the world. With the stone retaining wall protecting you from high tide, you can literally camp a few feet from the water. Right next to our site is an active, historic lighthouse. Just down the road are the dramatic cliffs of Cape D'Or.
Advocate Garage
An interesting piece about the old garage and general store in Advocate Harbour, Nova Scotia. My family has a summer home not far from this place. I used to go to this store all the time when I was a kid. Great memories.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
The theory of Portuguese discovery of Australia claims that early Portuguese navigators were the first Europeans to sight Australia between 1521 and 1524, well before the arrival of Dutch navigator Willem Janszoon in 1606 on board the Duyfken who is generally considered to be the first European discoverer. This is based on the following elements:
The Dieppe maps, a group of 16th-century French world maps, which depict a large landmass between Indonesia and Antarctica. Labelled as Java la Grande, this land mass carries French, Portuguese, and Gallicized Portuguese placenames, and has been interpreted by some as corresponding to Australia's northwestern and eastern coasts.
The presence of Portuguese colonies in Southeast Asia from the early 16th century, particularly Portuguese Timor – approximately 650 kilometres from the Australian coast – c. 1513–1516.
Various antiquities found on Australian coastlines, claimed to be relics of early Portuguese voyages to Australia, which are more commonly regarded as evidence of Makassan visit of Northern Australia.Precedence of Australia's discovery has also been claimed for China (Admiral Zheng), France, Spain, and even Phoenicia.
