The Speyside Way - Aviemore to Buckie ©
Welcome to Rucksack Rose - The Outdoor Channel. Read more at
This 65 mile trail is one of the original four officially designated long distance routes in Scotland, and also one of the family of Scotland’s Great Trails. It stays fairly close to the River Spey, a renowned salmon river, linking Aviemore in Strathspey and the Cairngorm foothills, with Buckie on the Moray Coast. There are optional spurs added from Craigellachie to Dufftown and from Ballindalloch to Tomintoul. Although it generally consists of leisurely walking, the website says that there are climbs to 300 metres on Ben Aigan to Red Sheugh. The beginning of the trail offers views south to the Cairngorms massif and the Lairig Ghru cleft and westwards towards the Monadhliath Mountains. Many whisky distilleries are situated along the route of the old Strathspey railway. In 2015 the option to begin or end the route at Newtonmore was introduced, although I opted to begin at Aviemore in line with my slightly older map.

Places to see in ( Kingussie - UK )
Places to see in ( Kingussie - UK )
Kingussie is a small town in the Highland region of Scotland. It is one settlement in the Highland Council ward of Badenoch and Strathspey, and is the capital of the district of Badenoch. It lies beside the A9 road, although the old route of the A9 serves as the town's main street which has been bypassed since 1979. Kingussie is 42 miles (68 km) south of Inverness, 12 miles (19 km) south of Aviemore, and 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Newtonmore, which is its greatest rival in the game of shinty.
The name Kingussie comes from the Gaelic, Ceann a' Ghiuthsaich which means Head of the Pine forest. The ruins of the early 18th century Ruthven Barracks (Historic Scotland; open to visitors at all times) lie near the original site of the village which was moved to avoid the flood plain of the River Spey. The Hanoverian Barracks were built on the site of Ruthven Castle, the seat of the Comyns, Lords of Badenoch in the Middle Ages.
The main railway line to Inverness passes through from Edinburgh, Glasgow and points south. Kingussie railway station is about 200 yards south east of the High Street. In the past few years, the TV series Monarch of the Glen has been filmed in and around the area of Kingussie. Ardverikie Estate, where Monarch of the Glen was filmed, is about 12 miles (19 km) from Kingussie. The Highland Wildlife Park is sited very close by. The Highland Folk Museum is in Newtonmore, 3 miles (4.8 km) from Kingussie.
The Speyside Way is a long distance route which currently has its southern terminus at Aviemore, north of Kingussie. There is, however, a proposed extension to the route to Newtonmore, going through Kingussie on the way. Kingussie is mentioned in Compton Mackenzie's book The Monarch of the Glen, on which the BBC TV series is based. In chapter 8 Kingussie Sanatorium, now St. Vincent's Hospital, is mentioned.
( Kingussie - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Kingussie . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Kingussie - UK

The complete Pennine Way ©
This video is a full version of the walk. You can also find a shorter highlights version and detailed videos of the various sections of the walk including the Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales, Cumbria, Northumberland and the Scottish border at my Long Distance Walks playlist here:
I walked the Pennine Way in June /July to raise money for Crisis UK. It took 20 days to complete with rest days. I walked an average of 14.5 miles per day and stayed in a mixture of campsites, bunkhouses, youth hostels, B&Bs, finishing with a hotel. The weather was very dry and hot with only 1.5 days of rain out of 20.
The Pennine Way is a National Trail which runs 268 miles (431 km) from Edale, in the northern Derbyshire Peak District and ends at Kirk Yetholm, just inside the Scottish border. The route crosses three national parks; the Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales & Northumberland, one area of outstanding natural beauty in the North Pennines and a world heritage site at Hadrian's Wall. The path runs along the Pennine hills, sometimes described as the spine of England. According to the Ramblers Association it is one of Britain's best known and toughest paths. The LDWA give the following stats for the Pennine Way: 410.6 Km (255.1 miles) length 11,345 m (37,215 ft) ascent & 893 m (2,920 ft) maximum height. A Pennine Way walker covering the entire length of the trail is obliged to navigate 287 gates, 249 timber stiles, 183 stone stiles and 204 bridges aided by 458 waymarks. Wikipedia.

The Southern Upland Way in Video
Hello again and welcome to another video from
Over 200 miles long, the Southern Upland Way is the only official coast to coast walking path. Opened in 1984, it connects Portpatrick on the west with Cockburnspath on the east.
The route goes over a mixture land - moors, forests, fells and more - and in the summer of 2011 I headed off on it, to see what it was like. And I liked what I saw.
Over 18 days I walked the route, camping and staying in bothies. Well, when it wasn't too wet anyway.
This video tells the story of my journey on Scotland's most challenging official long distance footpath.
