My 30 Day Eurail Pass - Ljubljana, Slovenia
What a surprise it was to visit Ljubljana, I had no idea what to expect, but I loved the city. With the river and bridges, architecture, all the outdoor seating at the cafes and restaurants, it almost seemed like I was in Paris or Amsterdam, but smaller and more quaint.
My first night I stayed at the Hotel Park Ljubljana, it's a nice hotel just a short walk from the Old Town area. The room was very comfortable, and the view was the best part. I was lucky enough to arrive just as the sun was setting over the city and the castle. What a great view. They also have a very nice breakfast, lots of variety and excellent service. Thanks again for the great stay!
Since Ljubljana is a relatively small city, I used my first full day to take a bus ride to Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj. It was a pretty easy ride and Lake Bled is a must if you're visiting Ljubljana. I hiked up to the castle which had a great view of the lake and the little island with the little building. I didn't take the boat ride to the island, but instead took the bus to Lake Bohinj. There's not much to do there, but the hiking is good I heard, and there's a waterfall. There was still snow on the ground and it was cold, so I just flew the drone a little and enjoyed the views around the lake. Then it was time to take the bus back to Ljubljana.
I checked into the Hostel Tresor which is located right in the middle of town, such a perfect location. I had a private room with a shared bathroom, the room was very large and comfortable. The hostel has plenty of common areas, places to eat, a bar and cafe, storage, pretty much everything you need. Plus it's so close to so many restaurants, I didn't even eat there, I just took a short walk and enjoyed dining outside when the weather was warm.
I met up with a local travel Instagram girl (where.is.eli), we had coffee in the main square area, it was very nice to meet a local and talk about travel and her hometown. Next I had a food tour with Slovenia Guides. This was a fantastic tour, we walked all over the city, ate so much good food, it was all just so good. The goulash was probably my favorite, a little spicy. Thanks again Slovenia Guides for the great food tour, it was delicious and educational!
For my last dinner I decided to hike up to the castle and try Strelec. I heard one of the owners was voted the #1 female chef in the world, so I had to give it a try. It was my most expensive meal of the trip, but a similar dining experience in the US would have been 3 times as much I'm sure. They just kept bringing out dishes, I wasn't sure if they always do that, or they figured I was a food blogger since I was taking photos and videos of everything. But it was a very good meal, I highly recommend dining here when you visit Ljubljana.
That was my time in Ljubljana, too short, but it was time to move on to Zagreb, Croatia. Thanks to my Eurail pass, I just jumped on the train and headed to Croatia.

Slovenian Food Review - Trying traditional Slovenian dishes in Ljubljana, Slovenia Travel Video Transcript:
Well hello hello and welcome to another food video. Today we're having lunch here in Ljubljana so we figured we need to show you what Slovenian food is all about. Now I've never had Slovenian food before ever because I don't think it is really popular outside of Europe but um Sam brought us to Allegria. He spotted this place yesterday so we are here. We've ordered our wine. We've got our basket of bread so let's get to it.
Sam and I both got the same red wine. And what is the biggest surprise with this? Yes, the local red. Biggest surprise is now that we've had two restaurant meals here in Ljubljana is that they typically serve the red wine chilled.
The food arrived pretty quickly so let me show you my dish first. I ordered the grilled Slovenian sausage (kranjska klobasa) with sauerkraut or cabbage and this kind of like purple-y potato so let's just dig right in. Look it is like a double sausage actually. It looks big. Let's divide it. Big and juicy.
It is a really nice way to be starting our Slovenian cuisine experience. Yeah, and now we're moving on to what Sam ordered.
Sam is going in for the Idrijski žlikrofi I believe it is called.
Yes. We could totally be butchering it. And inside is basically pork, herbs and onions.
And it comes with a lamb ragout. It looks so good. I'm making sure to get a bit of lamb.
This is just so good. Such hearty food. Yeah? Again not spicy at all though. It is just like kind of that comfort savory food. And I really like the pasta. It is actually quite densely stuffed.
Well dessert has arrived. It sure has. Here before us we have a traditional Slovenian dessert (prekmurska gibanica) whose name I cannot pronounce. But I can tell you the ingredients. It is basically kind of like a puffed pastry like with lots of little crispy layers and inside it has apples, cottage cheese, walnuts and sometimes it can have raisins. It also has poppyseed and it has all been dusted with a little bit of icing sugar.
Another very filling meal here in Ljubljana, Slovenia. I have to say.. And in terms of price point that came to 28 Euros so that included two glasses of red wine, two mains and a dessert to share. It is packed outside and it is packed inside so it is a great restaurant. I'd highly recommend coming here in Ljubljana.

Michael Fahres Mobilodrom in Croatia
Michael Fahres: Mobilodrom, 1979
first performed at the MBZ Music Biennale Zagreb, 1979, Urbofest (artistic director Nikša Gligo)
excerpt from the TV broadcast MBZ Urbofest, editor Sedeta Midžić, HRT Croatian Radio Television, 1979
12 - 18 April 1979 - Mobilodrom - a vehicle producing sounds in reaction to its environment by Michael Fahres performed first time at the Music Biennale Zagreb, at the streets of Zagreb. An electric car drove through the city and collected information like volume and pitch of environmental sounds, movement, wind, air pressure and others. Those data from sensor devices were translated in real time into sounds by a computer. The software for translation of an environmental input is written by the physicist Desmond Darby (New Zealand, at a moment working in Utrecht's University). Program for computer output and the computer controls the analog STEIM synthesizer is written by Johan den Biggelaar, using Heathkit h 11 computer. Biggelaar built some parts of the synthesizer. Work is produced in STEIM, Amsterdam. STEIM's analogue Blackbox system produced sounds. Volume, pitch and filtering is controlled by computer. Work was performed 26th May 1979 in Monchengladbach, at the multimedia festival Ensemblia 79 (Muzik, Theater, Tanz, Pantomime...) and 6 days at the Holland festival in June 1979 Amsterdam. At the Amsterdam's performance the collaboration with (two months) newly founded Dutch department of Greenpeace was established. The link was the sounds of the wails (as extinct spices) used in the work. The other sound was bell sound, recalling alarm and immediate attention. All equipment was carried by authors, only electric cars were rented at the respective city where performance took place. Documentation of working process was exhibited during the performances. Sound is published by Edition Modern, 60 minutes.

Stina - Tribidrag 2013 - Croatia Brač
Stina - Tribidrag 2013 - Croatia Brač tasted 100% blind by the Best Sommelier of the World, Andreas Larsson.
Medium to deep ruby red core. Floral nose displaying sweet red fruit and jammed plum with plenty of dry spices. The palate has medium weight, a rather tannic bite with spicy red fruit and a medium to long finish. Still on the young side, should improve and soften.

Mostar Food Review - Eating Bosnian Dishes at Šadrvan restaurant in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina Travel Video Transcript:
We have come back to our favorite restaurant in all of Mostar. We're at Šadrvan. What is this? Like our third, fourth time eating here in a matter of days? It is our third time.
So we've ordered two glasses of red wine. We are having Blatina and we tried this for the first time and it is a nice full body red, dry like just wonderful flavor and aftertaste.
We are starting off with Schnitzel Šadrvanska Story. And what is in it? It has got so much in it that I'm going to read it off of the menu. Haha. I don't want to mess up.
So guys it is steak with turkey and ham, smoked cheese, breaded in a French manner with mushroom sauce, white wine and cream. Oh my. Now if that sounds decadent.
Okay so for my dish I got dolma and I feel like I've probably already shown this before because I've been eating a lot of it almost on a daily basis. We haven't shown it here though. And it does look different. I know we showed one dolma when we filmed here but they have two different kinds. This one is different. This one is dolma baked in cream. So you've got like the little peppers stuffed with rice, stuffed with minced meat. You've got some chopped carrots. It is really good and it comes with cream in the middle.
It is definitely good. It has got I mean the leaf wrapper. It is completely different texture from this but if I had to pick between the two I would go for this one. The pepper.
Well well it is time for dessert. For mine I also ordered a dessert I had on my first night here. I believe it is pronounced tufahija (tufahije). It is a poached apple that I think has been cooked in like sugary water and then the apple is stuffed with nuts. Then it has whipped cream on top.
Sam over here got baklava. Compared to normal baklava in other places they are a bit more generous with the nuts. It is also a bit thicker than normal making it more delicious.
So time to talk about the bill. It came to 46 in local currency which was 27 US dollars or 23 Euros. We ordered five food items. Basically the two appetizers and then the big meat dish and then two desserts and two glasses of wine. Excellent value and the food was fantastic. Just a wonderful way for us to finish off our time here in Mostar. Bye.
