Conversation on the Omar Ibn Said Collection
Scholars discussed the autobiography of Omar Ibn Said, the only known autobiography by a slave written in Arabic in the United States. It is a historically unique and important primary source for those trying to understand the connections between the Muslim communities in Western Africa and the slaves who continued to practice Islamic faith after being captured during the Atlantic slave trade.

I guys Blake from followingfreeride.com we had a great opportunity to partner up
0:09
with Lauren Ziaks
0:11
she's a doctor and physical therapy and athletic trainer
0:14
she's known as the queen of concussions she has our own clinic up in park city
0:18
Utah
0:19
she's just going to go over a few exercises to help keep your snowboard
0:21
fit. For snowboarders I would recommend that they have really good glute med
0:25
strength
0:26
the glute med is the most underused muscle in the body and it's so important
0:30
the glutamine is the little muscle on the side you know how everybody has like
0:33
a nice butt and they have that flat spot there was actually supposed me a muscle
0:36
there it's called your glute med and that's the only muscle actually that
0:40
stabilizes that inward rotation of your knee
0:42
so when you're looking at snowboarding your feet are fixed and if my leg is
0:46
rotating I'm not really so worried about my ACL they do tear their acls but i'm
0:50
not really so worried about that but I'm even grinding that hip joint as my knee
0:53
Falls in so doing gluten need work will actually help protect your knee or ankle
0:58
your hip your low back your whole body so the first exercise that we're going
1:01
to do is I'm sideline hip abduction so you're lying on your side and we're
1:05
going to a be duct your hip
1:07
so you're going to bend your bottom leg for support and then you're going to
1:10
lift your leg up straight and then you're going to do it your own way first
1:12
and i'll tell you why it's wrong so go ahead
1:14
this is the natural way how your leg is forward and you can feel that it's
1:17
firing this part of your hip here
1:19
so what I want to do is take your foot and I want to go one foot lengths behind
1:22
your hip and now I want you to lift your leg up and where my hand is in that
1:28
little divot so I want you to put your hand there and I want you to feel that
1:31
muscle fire under your hip as you get tired your leg will actually travel
1:34
forward so i would want you to take a break and then go back and i just have
1:37
people do 60 with as many breaks as they need
1:40
yeah and you have to stabilize because people will cheat so they fall back or
1:44
they'll really far forward and sometimes people have to play like we did earlier
1:47
with the way your toes pointed to some people have to internally rotate their
1:50
leg or actually rotate to get the muscle better
1:53
you could add a band or you cannot wait if you needed it but even professional
1:56
athletes usually they could just do this and it hurts

SUMMARY
=======
Spain (Spanish: España [esˈpaɲa] ( listen)), officially the Kingdom of Spain (Spanish: Reino de España), is a country mostly located on the Iberian Peninsula in Europe. Its territory also includes two archipelagoes: the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa, and the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. The African enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla make Spain the only European country to have a physical border with an African country (Morocco). Several small islands in the Alboran Sea are also part of Spanish territory. The country's mainland is bordered to the south and east by the Mediterranean Sea except for a small land boundary with Gibraltar; to the north and northeast by France, Andorra, and the Bay of Biscay; and to the west and northwest by Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean.
With an area of 505,990 km2 (195,360 sq mi), Spain is the largest country in Southern Europe, the second largest country in Western Europe and the European Union, and the fourth largest country in the European continent. By population, Spain is the sixth largest in Europe and the fifth in the European Union. Spain's capital and largest city is Madrid; other major urban areas include Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Málaga and Bilbao.
Modern humans first arrived in the Iberian Peninsula around 35,000 years ago. Iberian cultures along with ancient Phoenician, Greek, Celtic and Carthaginian settlements developed on the peninsula until it came under Roman rule around 200 BCE, after which the region was named Hispania, based on the earlier Phoenician name Sp(a)n or Spania. At the end of the Western Roman Empire the Germanic tribal confederations migrated from Central Europe, invaded the Iberian peninsula and established relatively independent realms in its western provinces, including the Suebi, Alans and Vandals. Eventually, the Visigoths would forcibly integrate all remaining independent territories in the peninsula, including Byzantine provinces, into the Kingdom of Toledo, which more or less unified politically, ecclesiastically and legally all the former Roman provinces or successor kingdoms of what was then documented as Hispania.
In the early eighth century the Visigothic Kingdom fell to the Moors, who arrived to rule most of the peninsula in the year 726, leaving only a handful of small Christian realms in the north, lasting up to seven centuries in the Kingdom of Granada. This led to many wars during a long reconquering period across the Iberian Peninsula, which led to the creation of Kingdom of Leon, Kingdom of Castille, Kingdom of Aragon and Kingdom of Navarre as the main Christian kingdoms to face the invasion. Following the Moorish conquest, Europeans began a gradual process of retaking the region known as the Reconquista, which by the late 15th century culminated in the emergence of Spain as a unified country under the Catholic Monarchs.
In the early modern period, Spain became the world's first global empire and the most powerful country in the world, leaving a large cultural and linguistic legacy that includes +570 million Hispanophones, making Spanish the world's second-most spoken native language, after Mandarin Chinese. During the Golden Age there were also many advancements in the arts, with world-famous painters such as Diego Velázquez.
The most famous Spanish literary work, Don Quixote, was also published during the Golden Age. Spain hosts the world's third-largest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Spain is a secular parliamentary democracy and a parliamentary monarchy, with King Felipe VI as head of state. It is a major developed country and a high income country, with the world's fourteenth largest economy by nominal GDP and sixteenth largest by purchasing power parity. It is a member of the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), the Eurozone, the Council of Europe (CoE), the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), the Union for the Mediterranean, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Or ...

SOTT Earth Changes Summary - April 2018: Extreme Weather
This past April saw record snow for the North, Northeast and the Midwest of the US, together with strong winds and snow-melt flooding, leaving hundreds of thousands without light and damaging homes. Some parts of Europe and Northern Asia also had their share of unseasonable snow and frigid temperatures... yes, all this in April, with spring supposedly well under way.
Sheets of rain, floods and huge hail stones caused serious problems this April with the Middle East, Kenya, South Africa, Central America and the South of the US all suffering the consequences.
While many sinkholes still made their appearance around the world, huge cracks in the earth also opened up, alarming many people. Some researchers attribute such cracks to the liquefaction of earth layers below the surface due to heavy rains and floods, but there is also the the slow down in the speed of earth's rotation and cosmic rays to consider when assessing this upsurge in geological activity ... the earth's crust appears to be 'opening up'.
Volcanic activity in the ring of fire also remained high this April, and there is no sign that it will decrease in intensity.
It should always be remembered that the kind of destructive weather patterns we are seeing around the world has a significant damaging effect on crops and livestock, with knock-on effects for the global economy that are yet to manifest.

Flamenco, Song and Dance, Spain
Flamenco (Spanish pronunciation: [flaˈmeŋko]) is a genre of Spanish music, song, and dance from Andalusia, in southern Spain, that includes cante (singing), toque (guitar playing), baile (dance) and palmas (handclaps). First mentioned in literature in 1774, the genre grew out of Andalusian and Romani music and dance styles. Flamenco is often associated with the Romani people of Spain (Gitanos) and a number of famous flamenco artists are of this ethnicity.
In recent years flamenco has become popular all over the world and is taught in many countries: in Japan there are more academies than there are in Spain.

Feel free to share your own creepy story at WeirdDarkness.com, I might use it in a future episode! Now.. sit back, turn down the lights, and come with me into the Weird Darkness!
It all started with a bunch of footprints at a construction site. Or at least the modern-day fascination with “Bigfoot” did. Stories of hairy giants in the woods and wandering “wild men” had been a part of American lore for nearly two centuries by the time the nickname “Bigfoot” was coined in the late 1950s. But it was then, with the advent of television and the modern media, that chasing down giants in the woods became a national craze.
It was the spring of 1957 and a road construction project was underway near Bluff Creek in northern California. The project was run by a contractor named Ray Wallace and his brother, Wilbur. They hired thirty men that summer to work on the project and by late in the season, Wilbur Wallace reported that something had been throwing around some metal oil drums at the work site. When winter arrived that year, cold weather brought the work to a halt, even though only ten miles of road had been completed.
In early spring 1958, some odd tracks were discovered near the Mad River close to Korbel, California. Some of the locals believed they were bear tracks. As it happened, this was close to another work site that was managed by the Wallace brothers.
Later on that spring, work started up again on the road near Bluff Creek. A number of new men were hired, including Jerry Crew, who drove more than two hours each weekend so he could be home with his family. Ten more miles of road were constructed, angling up across the face of a nearby mountain. On August 3, 1958, Wilbur Wallace stated that something threw a seven-hundred-pound spare tire to the bottom of a deep gully near the work site. This incident was reported later in the month, after the discovery of the footprints.
On August 27, Jerry Crew arrived for work early in the morning and found giant, manlike footprints pressed into the dirt all around his bulldozer. He was at first upset by the discovery, thinking that someone was playing a practical joke on him, but then he decided to report what he found to Wilbur Wallace. At this point, the footprints had not been made public. That occurred on September 21, when Mrs. Jess Bemis, the wife of one of the Bluff Creek work crew, wrote a letter to Andrew Genzoli, the editor of a local newspaper. Genzoli published her husband's Big Foot story and caught the attention of others in the area. One of these was Betty Allen, a newspaper reporter who suggested in a late September column that plaster casts should be made of the footprints. She had already talked to local Native Americans and interviewed residents about hairy giants in the area. She convinced Genzoli to run other stories and letters about Bigfoot. This would be the beginning of a story that would capture the imagination of America.
On October 1 and 2, Jerry Crew discovered more tracks, very similar to the first ones. In response to the new discovery, two workers quit and Wilbur Wallace allegedly introduced his brother Ray to the situation for the first time, bringing him out to show him the tracks. On the day after the last tracks were found, Jerry Crew made plaster casts of the footprints, with help from his friend Bob Titmus and reporter Betty Allen. He was irritated that people were making fun of him and wanted to offer the casts as evidence that he wasn’t making the whole thing up. On October 5, Andrew Genzoli published his now-famous story about Bigfoot. It was picked up worldwide by the wire services, and soon the term was being used in general conversation.
