Spirit Tree Estate Cidery Grand Opening
2009: Spirit Tree Estate Cidery's Grand Opening.
I don't have a whole lot of experience editing videos like this; this was my very first time and I know it could use some work, but hopefully you enjoy the video anyway. :)
FeastON at Spirit Tree Estate Cidery
Feast ON - a certified taste of Ontario is for locals and travellers alike that seek out authentic tastes of place when travelling.
Spirit Tree Estate Cidery is located on 46 acres of rolling hills in the town of Caledon, just above the village of Cheltenham, on a ridge of the beautiful Niagara Escarpment, overlooking Toronto. The clay soil is a natural habitat for wild apple trees and the perfect location for a cidery. They produce hand crafted artisan hard ciders, wood fired stone oven breads, pies and pastries. The straw bale building includes a fine food shop and tasting room, including French bistro serving a seasonal local menu.

Spirit Tree Estate Cidery - Oven side chat with Tom Wilson and Frank Mazzuca
We found about Spirit Tree Estate Cidery from reading an article in FOOD FROM THE HILLS. The article wrote about Tom WIlson and his Alan Scott (out of California) Wood FIred Oven...I had to go check it out.
We found Tom at his oven and spoke to him about the building of the oven and the great baked goods that come out of it. Enjoy

Thomas Wilson -- owner
Thomas was born and raised on a beef farm in Caledon. Growing up he spent a lot of time working at his grandfather's orchard, Wilson's Orchard, which had been a working orchard in Caledon since 1952.
Thomas attended the University of Windsor and graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. After obtaining his degree, Thomas returned to Wilson's Orchard as the manager and bought in with his parents, Mike & Irene Wilson in 1999. In 2002, the year they were married, Thomas and Nicole purchased the remaining share of the farm from his parents.
Thomas is currently a realtor with Gairdner and Associates, based in Erin.
Thomas is actively involved in the local community. He is current President of the Golden Horseshoe Soil and Crop Improvement Association, Director with the Peel Federation of Agricultural, sits on the Caledon Agricultural Advisory Committee and sat on the Mayfield West Advisory Group.
Nicole Judge -- owner
Born and raised in Caledon by her Irish mother and British father, cider is in her blood. A love of animals from an early age led Nicole to veterinary medicine.
Nicole is a 1995 graduate of the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph and has an honours degree in Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation, Nicole worked for 5 years in private small animal practice in Caledon.
Nicole met Thomas in 1999 and became an active part of the orchard business while continuing to work at the clinic. Wanting to expand her horizons, she contemplated opening her own practice but decided against this as the farm business already took a lot of her time. She decided to try the business side of veterinary medicine and was hired by Hill's Pet Nutrition, as a Veterinary Account Manger, working with veterinary clinics throughout Central Ontario to provide nutritional training and advice.

Creemore’s name translates to “big heart,” which is exactly what these local farmers, merchants, and producers put into everything they do. That attitude extends across the region, and combined with their focus on local craft and sustainability, and an almost unfair amount of natural beauty and resources, you feel transported to simpler times. So, we took the trip from Creemore to Caledon, to experience just how tasty close-to-home can be.
In this episode, our hosts explore from Creemore to Caledon and stop in to visit the Creemore 100 Mile Store, K2 Milling, Sheldon Creek Dairy, Beattie's Distillers, and Spirit Tree Estate Cidery.

Ride 4 Real Food 2014
Sign up today for the R4RF -- September 14
Ride4RealFood is about raising funds for better food security in your city. Funds raised support better access to fresh, healthy and local food for low-income people living in Toronto.
It all happens through the Coop Cred Program -- a partnership between West End Food Coop and PARC -- a community agency in Parkdale working with members on mental health and poverty issues.
With Coop Cred, participants volunteer their labour to earn Cred Dollars that go directly to buying their own fresh, local groceries.
We are inviting you to join us in building food security by raising funds and on Sunday, September 14, joining us for the Ride4RealFood.
There are three cycling routes: a 35km Park Ride, and a series of Country Rides ranging from 35 to 115km.
The 35km Park Ride takes you from Etienne Brule Park (behind Old Mill Station) along the West Humber Bike Path (along with some road riding).
Ride4RealFood 2014 Country Rides begin and end at McVean Farm, and are supported by a shuttle service to and from Spirit Tree Estate Cidery in Caledon. Riders may choose distances from 35 to 115 kilometres based on one-way or looped routes exploring Peel Region. Whether seeking a leisurely ride combining both road and multi-use trails or a challenging tour of the Albion hills, the Ride4RealFood Country Rides offer a unique opportunity to experience the biodiversity of the region that supplies much of Toronto's food and water.
All rides end at McVean Farm -- home to 20 different small farm enterprises in north Brampton. Upon arriving at the farm, you and your fellow riders will join the McVean Farm Picnic for a culinary celebration of next generation farmers.
The goal of Ride4RealFood2014 is to raise $40,000 in support of better access to fresh food for low-income people living in your city. For every $600 you raise, one new participant will have the opportunity to volunteer with Coop Cred and earn a year's worth of fresh groceries.
Beginning June 19, 2014, our customized fundraising platform goes live, where you can register to ride, raise money and spread the word. Stay tuned for more details
THANK YOU for supporting better food security on your city.
