Veliky Novgorod, also known as Novgorod the Great, or Novgorod Veliky, or just Novgorod (meaning newtown), is one of the oldest and most important historic cities in Russia, with more than 1000 years of history. UNESCO recognized Novgorod as a World Heritage Site in 1992.
At its peak during the 14th century, the city was the capital of the Novgorod Republic and was one of Europe's largest cities.
The city is known for the variety and age of its medieval monuments. The foremost among these is the St. Sophia Cathedral, built between 1045 and 1050 under the patronage of Vladimir Yaroslavich, the son of Yaroslav the Wise. It's probably the oldest structure still in use in Russia and the first one to represent original features of Russian architecture (austere stone walls, five helmet-like domes). Its frescoes were painted in the 12th century and renovated several times, most recently in the nineteenth century. The cathedral features famous bronze gates, which now hang in the west entrance.
The Novgorod Kremlin, traditionally known as the Detinets, also contains the oldest palace in Russia (the so-called Chamber of the Facets, 1433), which served as the main meeting hall of the archbishops; the oldest Russian bell tower (mid-15th century), and the oldest Russian clock tower (1673). Among later structures, the most remarkable are a royal palace (1771) and a bronze monument to the Millennium of Russia, representing the most important figures from the country's history (unveiled in 1862).
St. Nicholas Cathedral, built by Mstislav I near his palace at Yaroslav's Court, Novgorod, contains 12th-century frescoes depicting his illustrious family.
In Vitoslavlitsy, along the Volkhov River and the Myachino Lake, close to the Yuriev Monastery, a museum of wooden architecture was established in 1964. Over twenty wooden buildings (churches, houses and mills) dating from the 14th to the 19th century were transported there from all around the Novgorod region.
[
The St. George's (Yuriev) Monastery (Russian: Юрьев монастырь) is usually cited as Russia's oldest monastery. It stands in 5 kilometers south of Novgorod on the left bank of the Volkhov River near where it flows out of Lake Ilmen. The monastery used to be the most important in the medieval Novgorod Republic. It is part of the World Heritage Site named Historic Monuments of Novgorod and Surroundings.
According to legend, the monastery of wood was founded in 1030 by Yaroslav the Wise (whose Christian name was George); the first historically reliable reference to it is from the early 12th century when the stone building of the main church (the Church of St. George, Georgieveskii Church) was started in 1119 by Prince Vsevolod Mstislavich of Novgorod and Pskov and Hegumen (roughly equivalent to a western prior) Kyuriak (Kirik) and built by the master Peter.
By the first third of the 13th century the hegumen had been raised to the status of an archimandrite.
The monastery played the role of Novgorodian princes burial place.
The monastery was an important source for historical information on medieval Novgorod, as part of the Novgorod First Chronicle (the Synodal text) was compiled in the monastery.
The Church of St. George is one of the largest in Novgorod and its immediate environs. It is a tall (105 feet tall) white-stone church 85 feet long by 75 feet wide with three silver domes, which is somewhat unusual for Russian churches which usually have five (the main dome representing Christ, the four smaller ones representing the evangelists). Some remnants of the medieval frescoes remain, but most of the church was refrescoed in 1902. Among the frescoes is a large Christ Pantokrator in the main dome, a full-length portrait of Novgorodian Archbishop Feoktist, and another full-length (although smaller) portrait of Prince Vsevolod Mstislavich on the southwestern pier.
The monastery also has the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross in the northeastern corner of the monastery, with five blue domes and gold stars on it, built in the 18th century. The gateway into the monastery is crowned by a tall gold-domed tower which is visible from the city centre, including the Novgorod Kremlin two miles to the north.
[
Located on the banks of Lake Myachino and the VolkhovRiver, at St. George Monastery there is an open-air museum of wooden architecture Vitoslavlitsy. This is one of the most picturesque places in the Novgorod region. Izbas (village houses), chapels and churches form streets like those in old Russian villages. Restorers managed to preserve the unique works of Novgorodian carpenters. The buildings on display are so magnificent that they need no introduction. To get to know how Russian people lived many years ago, one must visit any of the izbas.

Sakhalin Island, Russia on $200. Seafood, Skiing and Sushi @Russia: Tips, Tricks & Travel
In this episode of Russia: Tips, Tricks & Travel Tim goes to the little known yet massive Russian island that used to be (partially) part of the Japanese Empire.
Tim Kirby starts his journey downtown next to one of the most regular “guests” on our program Vladimir Lenin. From there he went to the amazing Japanese-styled Sakhalin Regional Museum. History sure makes a guy hungry, so on his way to the region’s first and oldest Japanese restaurant Tim stops by the Anton Pavlovich Chekhov memorial to pay his respects to a major player in the island’s history. At the restaurant Tim speaks with its founder and philanthropist Yutaka Miyanisi who shows our host the proper way to do sushi. One hint, it does not include mayo, not even spicy mayo!
From there Tim decides that he should share the island’s amazing seafood with his family and stocks up at the Central Market (“Успех”/”Uspekh”) with all sorts of fish, crab and caviar.
From there Tim drops his stuff at the Japanese built and inspired Santa Resort Hotel to see how hotel rooms made for the Land of the Rising Sun fare in Russia. After teaching the robot Japanese toilet who is boss Tim heads out to the ski slopes of the Gorny Vosdukh Ski Resort. Thankfully our hero survives the trip down the snowy routes and heads out to the Harat’s Pub downtown to meet up with a fan after it gets dark.
Next Tim has to track down said fan and does so using the old railway still built to Japanese Imperial standards. He then gets exclusive access to the port in Korsakov. From there Tim sneaks into the boat graveyard, you’ll see whether the guard dogs bit him or not jumping over the fence.

☢ Spiridon Putin was Lenin's, Stalin's and Khrushchev's butler ☆ Lenin, Stalin and Andropov died of French Coumadine poisoning ☠ The Putin Interviews | Vladimir Putin Gives Oliver Stone a Tour of His Offices | SHOWTIME Jun 13, 2017 -- Russian President Vladimir Putin gives Oliver Stone a tour of his offices. Warfarin, sold under the brand name Coumadin among others,[1] is a medication that is used as an anticoagulant (blood thinner).[4] It is commonly used to treat blood clots such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and to prevent stroke in people who have atrial fibrillation, valvular heart disease or artificial heart valves.[4] Less commonly it is used following ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and orthopedic surgery.[4] It is generally taken by mouth but may also be used by injection into a vein.[4]
Rise of Joseph Stalin
Succeeding Lenin: 1924–1927
(From left to right) Stalin, Alexei Rykov, Lev Kamenev, and Grigori Zinoviev in 1925
Lenin died in January 1924.[265] Stalin took charge of the funeral and was one of its pallbearers; against the wishes of Lenin's widow, the Politburo embalmed his corpse and placed it within a mausoleum in Moscow's Red Square.[266] It was incorporated into a growing personality cult devoted to Lenin, with Petrograd being renamed Leningrad that year.[267] To bolster his image as a devoted Leninist, Stalin gave nine lectures at Sverdlov University on the Foundations of Leninism, later published in book form.[268] At the following 13th Party Congress, Lenin's Testament was read to senior figures. Embarrassed by its contents, Stalin offered his resignation as General Secretary; this act of humility saved him and he was retained in the position.[269]
Death, funeral and aftermath: 1953
On 1 March 1953, Stalin's staff found him semi-conscious on the bedroom floor of his Volynskoe dacha.[643] He had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage.[644] He was moved onto a couch and remained there for three days.[645] He was hand-fed using a spoon, given various medicines and injections, and leeches were applied to him.[644] Svetlana and Vasily were called to the dacha on 2 March; the latter was drunk and angrily shouted at the doctors, resulting in him being sent home.[646] Stalin died on 5 March 1953.[647] According to Svetlana, it had been a difficult and terrible death.[648] An autopsy revealed that he had died of a cerebral hemorrhage and that he also suffered from severe damage to his cerebral arteries due to atherosclerosis.[649] It is possible that Stalin was murdered.[650] Beria has been suspected of murder, although no firm evidence has ever appeared.

You know, painting has always been highly valued and it is highly valued now, but the number of buyers is not that high and investment in art in Russia, as well as in the whole world, has stopped because of the crisis. Although, according to the last antique salon which was held three weeks ago in Moscow, we have seen that the situation is starting to get better and art lovers and collectors are starting to buy art again.

There is a Russian sector of the world art market where some very important miracles have happened in the general history of art market. Over 20 years, the prices of Russian art have risen by around 20 times. It concerns not only modern art, but also classical art. Of course, it has happened because of the efforts of those buyers who grew up in Russia.

Hundreds Of Crows Just Bombed Russian President With Rocks. Why Birds Are So Angry With Him?
It might sound like something from Alfred Hitchcock Birds movie but what crows just did in Russia is far exceeded Alfred Hitchcock wildest dreams. And it is so incredible that you won't sleep tonight after seeing it. We all knew that crows are smart but we never knew they can organize into the flying army bombers to vanquish their enemies. Russia city of Yekaterinburg is Siberia. This is Russian Presidential center. Yes, Siberia is not only wilderness but well developed big cities like this one. People of Yekaterinburg gathered to Celebrate 1 Year of opening of former Russian President Boris Yeltsin center. It's like Ronald Reagan or George Bush library but much grander. Boris Yeltsin ruled Russia for 10 years and he looked very much like Donald Trump. Tall, Big, Loud, With Same Hair Style. When hundreds of people gathered to celebrate one year of Russian President Boris Yeltsin center, museum and skyscraper opening. Hundreds of crows nearly each one holding a rock showed up in the sky. They started to bombard Yeltsin center with rocks. Their first attack was unsuccessful, rocks landed on the roof of the building cracking some glass but not a single thick skyscraper grade glass was penetrated. Nonetheless, all attendees were evacuated from the building to the yard, fearing massive glass failure. In a few minters crows returned with more rocks and on higher speed, higher altitude and different throwing angle of bombardment and this time they managed to penetrate several thick panels of glass. Security guards started to fire at crows and crows left. You should see the video of the second wave of crow attack on Russian internet. Unfortunately, Kryan channel does not have copyrights to show it here. For those of who constantly writing comments that Kryan channel using music or video without permission: Kryan channel has a written copyright agreement with The Associated Press and several major channels - All American but not Russian. But how Russian President offended crows to invoke their wrath on 1 year anniversary of his center opening? It turns out that exactly on the day of the attack September 27, 1994 or 23 years ago Russian President called Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov and told him that Moscow is overrun by crows and it's time to exterminate those rats with wings. Interesting, that following October crow extermination teams did not find much crows in Moscow because they all suddenly left the capital after the very first crows were exterminated. Scientists know that crows can communicate, can live up to 30 years, have good memory and can remember faces and things for months but for 23 years? And how did they organize into the bomber army and knew who was responsible for the extermination order. That's something for you to think about this night.
