Spy Pond Documentary
Kate Barvick, a 2014 graduate from Arlington High School said she has always had an interest in local history. As a girl scout, she earned her Bronze and Silver awards through a walking tour of Arlington’s historical sites and natural history scavenger hunt in Cambridge. When it came time for her Gold Star, the longtime Arlington Community Media volunteer set her sites on an hour-long documentary focusing on Spy Pond.
Arlington State Rep. Sean Garballey narrates, with an introduction from Arlington Selectmen Kevin Greeley.

Speedskating around Spy Pond at dusk, 17 January 2015.
Skating around Spy Pond (Arlington MA) at dusk 17 January 2015. Nordic skates are better than anything else on this kind of bumpy ice.
Three days later, after two days of melt and one day of re-freeze, the ice was was glassy smooth. I skated until about an hour after dark with about 2400 lumens of super-bright bike lights (1200L headlamp + 1200L handheld). The ice was so black and flawless in places that it was disorienting and hard to perceive speed. I had to follow my previous tracks to help navigate.
I think Spy Pond is one great recreational resource for Arlington and the surrounding towns.
Spy Pond is historical too. The British marched past it (then retreated past it) it on April 19, 1775. AND, it was a center of the ice harvesting industry before the introduction of refrigeration.

Boston Travel Guide Driving in Boston's Suburb - Arlington
Arlington is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States, six miles (10 km) northwest of Boston. The population was 42,844 at the 2010 census. The Town of Arlington was settled by European colonists in 1635 as a village within the boundaries of Cambridge, Massachusetts under the name Menotomy, an Algonquian word meaning swift running water. A larger area, including land that was later to become the town of Belmont, and outwards to the shore of the Mystic River, which had previously been part of Charlestown, was incorporated on February 27, 1807 as West Cambridge. In 1867, the name Arlington was chosen in honor of those buried in Arlington National Cemetery; the name change took effect that April 30.
The Massachusett tribe, part of the Algonquian group of Native Americans, lived around the Mystic Lakes, the Mystic River and Alewife Brook. By the time Europeans arrived, the local Indians had been devastated by disease; also, the tribal chief, Nanepashemet, had been killed by a rival tribe in about 1619. Nanepashemet's widow, known to history only as Squaw Sachem, sold the land of her tribe to the colonists for ten pounds, with provisions that she and her tribe could remain on her homestead land around the Mystic Lakes and continue hunting and farming. She also was to be given a new winter coat of wool each year for the rest of her life. She is thought to have lived until about 1650.

8x speedup; 3min44sec Hyperlapse
Background:
These videos were shot with a handlebar-mounted Yi Action Camera; a compact, wide-angle, HD, sports camera.
The handlebar mount is approx. waist high (much lower than a helmet-mounted-camera); and the camera's view is where the front wheel is pointing rather than where the rider is looking. This gives a steadier view of the actual trail ahead.
The raw video was initially processed in MovieMaker; the stabilized 8x time lapse was produced with HyperLapse.
The bike is an Evelo Aurora.
Video filmed on Sept 9 2016.

Video of 82 Brigantine Cir | Norwell, Massachusetts real estate & homes
Call 781-248-7373 - 25 miles southeast of Boston, in the bedroom community of Norwell, nestled in an established and desirable neighborhood, is a unique opportunity to purchase a special home that combines luxury and practicality, privacy and easy access, as well as pristine marsh and ever-changing river views.
Norwell is one of the most desirable towns in the south shore with a school system that consistently ranks among the top in the state. With a population of about 10,000, spread out over its 20 square miles, Norwell has the right mix of a small town community spirit and a meaningful commercial base providing services and supporting the tax base.
Tucked in the southern part of Norwell is a neighborhood that traces its roots to Norwell's colonial shipbuilding heritage. The boulevards and streets in this master planned community along the North River feature names honoring the majestic sailing ships that were constructed there in the 17th and 18th centuries: Barque Hill Drive and Brigantine Circle. Even the small community park, a short walk from the house and aptly named Shipyard Park, was once the site of a thriving shipyard. Now it's a peaceful wooded park with an open field for sports and community events and leads to the North River where you can launch a canoe or kayak, or just go for a swim or a picnic at the water's edge.
The home at 82 Brigantine Circle, originally built in the early 70s, was completely redesigned, renovated and extensively expanded in 2000 by an award winning architect and skilled craftsmen into an expanded Cape style family home.
From the front yard, the home exhibits its understated, classic, traditional façade. From the rear however, the home takes every advantage of its 180 degree views of the North River with a full three stories of wall to wall windows looking across the broad marsh and river to the conservation land across the river in Pembroke. The peaceful setting not only appeals to people, but also to the myriad of wildlife that passes through the expansive lawn in the rear of the house. Deer, fox, turtles, turkey are regular visitors while red tail hawks and osprey soar overhead, and a multitude of songbirds fill the air and perch in specimen flowering trees in the yard. With the kaleidoscope of views, one will always want to have a camera and binoculars at hand.
Inside, the home beckons with its inviting layout and flowing floor plan. The foyer, with its dramatic barrel vaulted ceiling, welcomes guests with its hand painted murals and is exemplary of what is to come. The marble floored foyer opens to the 35 foot wide combination living and dining room which takes advantage of the river views through multiple picture windows with a sliding door providing access to the expansive mahogany deck off the back of the home. Boasting gleaming red birch floors and a wood burning fireplace with a granite hearth, marble surround and custom paneling designed and built by a local craftsman, this space has been the center of many gatherings.
The custom cherry kitchen is a chef's delight and has a large walk in pantry that accommodates an additional refrigerator. The garage is deceptively large because although it appears to be a two-car garage from the front of the house, one of the bays is 48 feet deep. The back portion can be closed off from the front converting it into a workshop, or used to store a third car. There is also an attached shed in the back of the house.
Also on the main level, set off from the living area with a pocket door, are three of the home's five bedrooms. One of the bedrooms has an en-suite three quarter bath while the other two share a full bath.
Upstairs is the expansive master bedroom suite with a connected separate office. His and hers walk-in custom closets eliminate the need for bedroom dressers or seasonal wardrobe storage. Also upstairs is a large bonus room with built-in surround sound, which creates a theatre-like movie experience. There are two large additional closets, one of which is cedar-lined, and a cozy room that can be used as a small office, library or reading room. Above the garage is an attic with loads of storage space.
The full walk out lower level offers another family entertaining area enabling the home to handle large groups or provide multiple areas to get away from it all. The solid walnut paneling is warm and inviting making the large space feel cozy. Also on the lower level is a private guest suite with full bath as well as additional storage area or workshop where many projects have been completed. Perhaps the most interesting feature of the house is a hidden wine room complete with racks, storage cabinets and closets.
