Summer on New Hampshire Lakes - Activities to Attractions
New Hampshire lakes are the main attraction in the Lake Region. Winnipesaukee is the centerpiece with Squam, Sunapee, Winnisquam, Wentworth, Newfound, Ossipee rounding out the larger lakes. Attractions are endless, Cog Railway on Mount Washington to Zip Lines at all the major ski resorts plus hiking trails everywhere. Happy Birthday to myself and what a better way to celebrate it than a trip on Squam Lake. Since I had not yet gone kayaking this year, this seemed like the perfect place and time.
This being the maiden voyage of my newly purchased kayak, I was unsure of what to expect. The good news was that it was very stable on the choppy waters, but it was like moving a barge through the water.
What I found a bit interesting about kayaking Squam Lake was how busy this lake actually is, but how beautiful the scenery is along the shore. The Squam Association appears to have a done a great job keeping the lake pretty clear and not becoming overly developed.
So would I recommend Squam Lake? Yes, but with on caveat. Have a goal. The lake may look small on a map, but the waters make it tough going. Plus with all the little islands around, one can get lost fairly easy.
