Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple - Narayanavanam - Places to Visit Around Tirupati
It is yet another ancient temple of mythological significance located about 60 km from Tirupati in Chittoor district.
According to temple legend, it is the place where Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy married King Akasaraju’s daughter Goddess Padmavati.
King Akasaraju had a son and a daughter. The daughter’s name was Sri Padmavati, she fell in love with Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy and was married to him. As the celestial wedding took place in Narayanavaram, Padmavathi’s brother had constructed two Temples; one in Narayanavanam, and another in Tirumala to commemorate this occasion.
It is one of the few temples where we can see Venkateswara Swamy with both Padmavathi Devi and Maha Lakshmi in a single temple complex.

Kanipakam Vinayaka Temple || Kanipakam || Chittoor
Kanipakam temple is a rare temple with a self-manifestation (swayambhu) idol of Lord Ganesha.
The striking feature of the idol is that it is still growing in size. According to a legend, there were three handicapped brothers, Dumb, Deaf and Blind. They were farmers and used to draw water for farming from a well nearby. One day the well got dried and they could no longer continue cultivation. One of them got into the well and started digging it up. He was shocked to see blood coming out of the well. Within in a few seconds the entire water turned red. All the three became normal getting rid of their deformities. As soon as the villagers came to know about this miracle, they thronged to the well and tried to deepen the well further. They found swayambhu idol (the self-manifested) of Lord Vinayaka emerging from the swirling waters.
The Annual Festival (Brahmotsavam) is conducted for 21 days starting on the Hindu festival of Vinayaka Chavithi (or Ganesh Chaturthi) that generally falls in the months of August/September. Kanipakam is directly connected by bus with Tirupati (every 30 minutes) & Chittoor.
There are few other temples to visit in Kanipakam like Sri Manikanteswara Swami temple and Sri Varadaraja swami temple. Sri Ardhagiri Veeranjaneya Swamy Temple, Sri Boyakonda Gangamma Temple and Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple are some other temples nearby Kanipakam.
Renigunta is the nearest airport (83 km from Kanipakam) which serves direct flights from Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai as well as Bangalore. Chittoor Railway Station (12 km away) is well connected with Hyderabad, Madurai, Trivandrum, Jammu, New Delhi, Vellore, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Nagercoil, Vizag, Bangalore, Jharkhand, Odisha, Kochi, Patna, Mangalore, Kanyakumari, Tirupati, Coimbatore, Mumbai, Pondicherry, Vizag and Madurai. Buses are available from Kanipakam to the adjacent cities like Tirupati, Chennai and Vellore.
There are 6 rooms run by the Kanipakam Devasthanam and 14 rooms run by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Choultries along with few private lodges.
The best time to visit Kanipakam is from Sep to Feb while the Peak Season is August to October & April to May. Usually it takes half day to full day to visit Kanipakam.
Timings: 4 AM to 9.30 PM

Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple,Narayana Vanam,Chittore District,Andhra Pradesh
Our Goal is to trace all Temples in India those stood neglected and bring them to the notice of the devotees seeking their support by all means to revive them so as to preserve the cultural heritage of the country.
At the outset, we have begun with the temples across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states which are ancient with unparallel historical background but remained hidden in spite of having rare kind of structural engineering that kept them distinguished from others.
We are trying our best to unveil the history, secrets and facts regarding those temples. We are quite ambitious to cover all the temples in India and be proud to be part of their development by bringing them back to limelight by facing the challenges of change facilitated by time.
It is an earnest appeal from our side to make us successful in this mission by following regularly this website and giving us suggestions.

Mundlapudi Chola Temple | Chittoor Dist Temples | Full Length Documentary
#Chola #temples #chittoor #history
Mullapudi is a small village some 11 KM from Tirupati town. Its closer to Tiruchanoor or Alimelu Mangapuram which is 5 KM from Tirupati.
Mundlapudi hosts a dilapidated temple estimated to be belonging to Chola period. The layout, carvings & features resemble Chola style of architecture.
Sri Parashareshwara Swamy temple is another iconic Chola temple located in Yogi Mallavaram which is roughly 5 KM from Mundlapudi, in the outskirts of Tiruchanoor or Alimelu Mangapuram.
It appears that this temple might have been a large temple complex during Chola time but got reduced to a single, dilapidated structure sans the presiding deity. Today only the antarala & garbhagruha are standing in their respective places while prakara, mukha mandapa & other standard layout features such as dhwajasthambha, bali peetha & ranga mandapa etc are missing completely.
Locals say that it is a temple of Krishna but the iconography on the walls & roof give an impression that it could have been a temple dedicated to God Shiva. The deva koshtas [niches] are empty but they could have had some murtis in heydays.
There is no presiding deity in the sanctum sanctorum and as per the residents the vigraha has been stolen some 100 years ago. Similarly other peripheral murtis too have been confiscated long ago.
There are #inscriptions in #Grantha characters chiseled along the length of adhishtanam. It is understood from the residents that few years ago A.S.I. staff have taken the estampage of these inscriptions.
Anyhow, this small but surviving Chola temple in Mundlapudi reminds us of our collective cultural responsibility of protecting, preserving & passing on the monuments to next generations.
If you are a history lover & visiting #Tiruchanoor aka Alimelu #Mangapuram take time to visit this 1,000 years old temple at Mundlapudi.
