Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swami Temple | Srinivasa Mangapuram | Tirupati
Srinivasa Mangapuram
Sri Venkateswara Swami & Sri Padmavathi Amma Marrage After 6 months living in this place, Srinivasa Mangapuram near by tirupati.
It is the well known Hindu tradition that soon after marriage the couple would stay in the house of the bride for few days, probably, to get acquaintance with the family of in laws to the groom. This is with a view that the couple would carry the feeling of one-family and they would respect and regard the in laws and their relations as their own relations, in order to strengthen the unity among both side families.
Accordingly Lord Venkateswara also stayed at Mangapuram, the mother’s home of bride Padmavathi for few days. Because of His stay the village came to be called as Srinivasa Mangapuram. Thereafter the couple shifted and settled in Tirupathi at Tirumala hills. Since He stayed after wedding He is called Kalyana (married) Venkateshwaraswami meaning thereby Venkateshwara after wedding (Kalyana) stayed here in His Mother-in-law’s home.
There is a small temple in this small village built in memory of His stay here. The idol of Lord Venkateswara in this temple is taller than the one at Tirumala, rather more attractive than that too. It is said that Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy here is a mirror image of Sri Venkateswara in Tirumala. According to a legendary belief those whoever could not be able to take His darshan at Tirumala can worship Him at Srinivasa Mangapuram and that would please Him and they will get moksha.
It is believed that those who have problems related to the marriage would get married soon after having darshan here and getting the “Kalyanothsava Kankanam tied to his/her hand in the temple.
The annual festival Vasanthotsavam is very famous and there will be nine day annual Brahmotsavam of Lord Kalyana Venkateswara during February of each year and both these festivals attract thousands of devotees from all corners of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and other places. It is a small village as such the puja items like flowers etc may not be available at the temple. Hence it is better for the devotees to carry the entire necessary item for pooja from Tirupathi itself.
Sri Kalyana Venkateshwaraswami temple is at Srinivasa Mangapuram situated 12 km to the west of Tirupathi. There is an excellent foot path way to Tirumala starting from this temple known as Srivari Mettu (2,450 steps), which is historical and made by Sri Krishna Devaraya of Vijayanagar Empire. It is the most convenient way for pilgrims go to Tirumala by walk via Chandragiri.
Narayanavanam
There is another Kalyana Venkateshwaraswami temple at Narayanavanam, 40 kms from Tirupathi and 95 kms away from Chennai, located at 13.42°N 79.58°E and at an average elevation of 122 metres (400 feet). It is just 5 km away from Puttur and near to the attractive waterfalls known Kailasa Kona Falls.
Nearest railway station is Puttur (5 km). Puttur is well connected by trains and buses with many Indian cities like Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hospet, Mysore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Tirupathi, Vellore etc.
Historically Narayanavanam was the capital of Rajas of Surya vamsam. The legendary story tells that Lord Venkateswara and Princess Padmavathi, (daughter of Akasharaja) were married here. After the royal wedding her brother has constructed the temple. Even today we can see the big size stone on which turmeric paste was grinded for the marriage.
The Brahmotsavam and Navarathri festivals are celebrated at the temple every year. Giri Pradakshina (Konda Chuttu Thirunallu) is an important festivals conducted during the end of Sankranthi, with the utsava murthy. This reminds me of the festival akin to the one observed on Chaithra Purnima day around Annamalai hill at Thiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu.
It is also considered a holy city because of the presence of Sri Padmavathi Sametha Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple (Maintained by Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams (TTD).

kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple,Srinivasa Mangapuram,Tirupathi
Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy temple is situated at an easily commutable distance of 12 KM to the west Tiruapti. It's regarded as the lord-prescribed alternative for Tirumala Devastana, and has been bestowed with great divine power. It can be easily reached and Darshan is not usually preceded by long Queues.
Sthalapuranam says that after celebrating the marriage of Lord Venkateswara Swamy with Goddess Padmavathi, he did not immediately return to the Tirumala hills. But instead he visited the sage Agasthya's ashram to seek blessings. Yes, even the lord is humble enough to seek blessings from elderly and wise. As it was scientifically wrong for the newlyweds to scale the hill for six months, the lord was unable to immediately return to the Tirumala mountain-temple. At this situation the sage Agastya suggested that Swamy Venkateswara along with his wife could stay at his humble ashram. The Lord graciously accepted this request and blessed with the ashram with his presence for the entire six months.
As the name indicates it carries great significance for newly married couples, who are forbidden by tradition to visit the mountain-top Tirupati temple. It’s also a safer alternative for elderly people, who may not be comfortable with the crowd and long-wait of the Tirumala temple. The kalyana ‘kaappu’ which marriage seeking devotees tie on their hand, is believed to lead to the ideal life-partner.

Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Swamy Temple - Narayanavanam - Places to Visit Around Tirupati
It is yet another ancient temple of mythological significance located about 60 km from Tirupati in Chittoor district.
According to temple legend, it is the place where Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy married King Akasaraju’s daughter Goddess Padmavati.
King Akasaraju had a son and a daughter. The daughter’s name was Sri Padmavati, she fell in love with Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy and was married to him. As the celestial wedding took place in Narayanavaram, Padmavathi’s brother had constructed two Temples; one in Narayanavanam, and another in Tirumala to commemorate this occasion.
It is one of the few temples where we can see Venkateswara Swamy with both Padmavathi Devi and Maha Lakshmi in a single temple complex.

Sri Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy Temple is located at Appalayagunta which is about 15 Kms from Tirupathi.
We arrived at Tirupathi on 30th November 2014 and after taking bath, we decided to go to Appalayagunta to have the darshan of Sri Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy.
This is my first visit to this temple though I have visited Tirupathi-Tirumala umpteen number of times. This time I had the opportunity and time to go over here and take blessings of this God.
This is one the many important temples in around Tirupathi to be visited. Private transport is available to reach this spot along with Public Transport.
The presiding deity in this temple is in the Abhaya Hastha pose and gives a grand look. The temple looks small but has rich appearance. in the form of :ABHAYA HASTHA.
There are two more shrines in the temple, that of Goddess Padmavthi and Andal Ammavaru.
