NANJANGUD - SRI RAGHAVENDRA SWAMY MUTT - SRI SUKRUTEENDRA TIRTHA
The pillar we see in the picture is of special importance. It is located in the Raghavendra Swamy Mutt premises at Nanjangud, Karnataka, India. Sri Sukruteendra Tirtha was a great saint in the guru parampara of Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt. He was in the Peeta during the early part of last century. He was a great jnani and yogi. He was well advanced in the yogic path and had his consciousness well aligned with Pancha Prana which holds life in our body. On the last day of his earthly life, he was taking class on the pancha prana explaining to his students how the life leaves the body for a yogi with the prana ascending upwards. He was explaining it simultaneously demonstrating it in his own body.
After his explaining the last stage, the life left his body in the same way. The students were enthralled at the great yogic power of the master. All this happened at this place, close to the above pillar and the great saint left his body leaning against this pillar. The Mutt has fixed a small fence enclosure and arranged vastra alankara to this pillar to distinguish it from other pillars so that the visitors may offer their worshipful prayers. His brindavana is located at the backside of the Mutt premises in the pancha brindavana complex with four other saints.
