Gurudwara Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, Anandpur Sahib
Anandpur Sahib is a city in Rupnagar district (Ropar) in the state of Punjab, India. Known as the holy City of Bliss, it is a holy city of the Sikhs and is one of their most important sacred places, closely linked with their religious traditions and history. It is located on the lower spurs of the Himalayas surrounded by picturesque natural scenery, with the river Sutlej forming a shimmering and shiny blue border on the south west barely four miles away.
Gurudwara Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib: Thakat Shri Kesh Garh Sahib is the central place of Anandpur Sahib. This revered place is birthplace of Khalsa: Revelation of Khalsa took place here. The sactum centorium is one of the Five Temporal Authorities (Five Takhats) of Sikhism.
After the establishment of Anandpur Sahib, Guru Gobind Singh used to hold congregations on this hill. At that time, this hill was 3.0 – 4.50 meters higher than it is now. By the side of this hill there stood another one known as “Tambu Wali Phari” because a special tent was set up on the day of “Revelation of Khalsa”. This hill does not exist anymore.

Baoli sahib in Sri Anandpur Sahib| Punjab| Rupnagar-Ropar| India
Baoli is a Punjabi word which refers to an open well. One will find steps leading down to the water level. Many such sacred wells were constructed during the times of the Gurus and are still a feature at many historic Gurdwaras.
The most popular baoli Sahib is found at Govindwal at the site built by Guru Amar Das, the third Sikh guru. This has 84 steps denoting the 84 lakh (which is written as 84,00,000 or 8.4 million) species of life forms on Earth. At this Baoli a grand staircase leads from ground level down to the water. This Baoli Sahib was contructed after Sikhs were prevented from fetching water from a local source. The digging started in 1556 and completed in 1559.
Gurudwara Qila Anandgarh Sahib is situated on another spur, about 800 metres south-east of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. It is a newly constructed building though marks of the old, original structure are also still traceable.
Gurudwara Shri Qila Anandgarh Sahib is situated in the middle of the town of Shri Anandpur Sahib. This is one from five Kilas (forts) built by Guru Gobind Singh for the protection of Sikhs and other residents from the Mughals and the Hill rulers. In Gurdwara Sahib there is also a sacred Baoli sahib. It is situated in the south east side of Gurdwara Sri Takhat Kesgarh Sahib.
This Gurdwara was one of the five forts constructed by Guru Gobind Singh at Anandpur Sahib for the defense of the Sikhs. Guru Gobind Singh spent 25 years at Anandpur Sahib. To protect the Sikhs from the hill Rajas or Mughals, Guru Gobind Singh began the construction of five defensive forts all around the town. Keshgarh at the center (now a Takht), Anandgarh (fort of bliss), Lohgarh (fort of steel), Holgarh (fort of colour) and Fatehgarh (fort of victory). All the forts were joined together with earthworks and underground tunnels. The construction began in 1689 and took over ten years to complete.
The present building complex was raised during the 1970's by Sant Seva Singh (d. 1982) whose successors are now managing and further developing it.Earlier, during the 1930's, Kartar Singh Kalasvalia had got a fort-like building constructed which is still intact on top of the hillock. The present Gurdwara, separated from this building by a spacious terrace paved with slabs of streaked marble, is a 15-metre square hall with an 8x3 metre porch in front.
The 6-metre square sanctum within the hall has above it a lotus dome topped with a gilded pinnacle and khanda as a fmial. The entire wall surface has a facing of streaked marble. This building was completed in 1970. The water level of an old baoli, a stepped well 4-metre in diameter, is approached through a covered passage. The baoli has 132 marbled steps. At the lower levels on the eastern flank of the main building are a spacious hall for Guru ka Langar constructed in 1972, and 300 rooms for pilgrims and administrators.

Indian Sikh pilgrims attend religious congregation - Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib, Punjab
Thousands of Sikh devotees gather for the annual Hola Mohalla Festival at Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib, Punjab
Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib is one of the five Takhats and a seat of authority for the Sikhs. This shrine is located in the center of the city of Anandpur Sahib. Many Gurdwaras are located within this locality. However, the main shrine is known as Takht Shri Keshgarh Sahib and it is the city's main shrine. The city began as Chakk Nanaki, which was founded by Guru Tegh Bahadur in 1665.
His son Guru Gobind Singh ji, who spent 25 years of his life in the city, added greatly to the city's size, giving it the new name of the City of Bliss (Anandpur). In fact, It was here that the Khalsa was born with the first initiation of Khande Di Pahul, when the young Guru called for a special congregation on the Baisakhi day of 1699 with thousands of Sikhs in attendance. One can only imagine how large the area was around Kesgarh Sahib then to accommodate the many thousands of Sikhs in attendance on that historic day.
Anandpur Sahib (the holy City of Bliss) is one of the holiest places of the Sikhs, second only to Amritsar. Located about 95kms north-west of Chandigarh. Anandpur is framed between the Shivalik hills to the east and the Sutlej River farther away in the west, with vast green expanses and profound tranquillity all around.
It is closely linked with Sikh religious traditions and history. The ninth Guru, Guru Teg Bahadur, purchased the site from the ruler of Bilaspur in the year 1665 and founded Anandpur Sahib near the ruins of ancient Makhowa. He called it Chak Nanki after the name of his mother. The town became prosperous and reached its zenith in the times of Guru Gobind Singh, who spent 25 years of his life here.

Gurudwara Keshgarh Sahib. Anandpur, Punjab
Gurudwara Shri Keshgarh Sahib is also known as Takht Shri Keshgarh Sahib and is one of the five highest holy Sikh institutions in India. The city of Anandpur Sahib was originally created in 1665 by Guru Teg Bahadur as Chak Nanaki. His son and the tenth guru, Guru Gobind Singh ji, added greatly to the city's size and gave it the new name of the City of Bliss (Anandpur).
Anandpur Sahib is the birthplace of the Khalsa religion. In 1699, Guru Gobind Singh ji sent invitations or letters of authority (hukmanamas) to his followers throughout the Indian sub-continent and asked them to gather at Anandpur Sahib on March 30, 1699, the day of Vaisakhi.
